This archeological site is in northern Jordan and at one point you overlook the borders of Palestine, Siria, and Lebanon. Very impressive. Very nice restaurant on site. It is a little over two hours north of Amman.

Although little remains of much of the original ancient city, these Greco-Roman remains are interesting because of the black basalt volcanic stones. The amphitheatre has been well restored and offers good views. The Roman road, including ancient cart tracks, is also well worth seeing. From the edge of the site there are excellent views of the Golan Heights and Sea of Galilee. This site was surprisingly free of tourists at the time of our visit, making it far more pleasant to walk around and take in the history. Definitely worth visiting this part of northern Jordan.

This is a place where you can feel the ruins of the Roman era while looking out over the Sea of Galilee. You can get a feel for just how far-reaching the Roman Empire's influence was during its heyday. And you can have a special experience by dining inside the ruins.

The site is very interesting. Though not too much remains of the ancient city, the setting is really pretty and bucolic, with close to no tourists, and beautiful views over the Golan heights and the Sea of Galilea. It's particularly stunning when covered in flowers during spring. And great to have a drink or lunch/dinner at the Romero restaurant just on top of the ruins.

Magnificat Gadara, one of the Decapolis cities in Jordan , unique in its basalt stone buildings, Roman road and amphitheatre. Great location overlooking the Sea of Galilee . More attention should be given to other facilities , although the restaurant is very good . I think further archaeological exploration and restoration will make this as good if not better than other sites in Jordan . There is a small well kept museum. The Ottoman village was being restored and some of its buildings are being used for various amenities. Strongly recommend it .

Umm Qais, also known as Gadara, is an ancient city located in northwestern Jordan. It was once a thriving member of the Decapolis, a league of ten cities that flourished in the region during the Roman era. Today, Umm Qais is a popular tourist destination, known for its well-preserved ruins, stunning views, and historical significance. [Image of Umm Qais, Jordan] One of the most impressive features of Umm Qais is the Gadara Roman Aqueduct. This ancient engineering marvel was built in the 3rd century AD to supply water to the city from a spring located several kilometers away. The aqueduct consisted of a network of tunnels and channels that stretched for over 100 kilometers. Today, only a portion of the aqueduct remains, but it is still a testament to the ingenuity and skill of the Roman engineers. [Image of Gadara Roman Aqueduct, Jordan] In addition to the aqueduct, Umm Qais is home to a number of other important archaeological sites, including a Roman theater, a hippodrome, and a necropolis. The city also offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside, including the Sea of Galilee and the Golan Heights. **What to see and do in Umm Qais:** * Visit the Gadara Roman Aqueduct and learn about its fascinating history. * Explore the ruins of the ancient city, including the Roman theater, the hippodrome, and the necropolis. * Enjoy the stunning views of the Sea of Galilee and the Golan Heights. * Visit the Umm Qais Museum to learn more about the city's history and culture. * Take a walk through the picturesque village of Umm Qais and interact with the friendly locals. **How to get to Umm Qais:** Umm Qais is located about 120 kilometers north of Amman, the capital of Jordan. The view was nice from the lookout tower. People around are friendly. The entrance is free with Jordan Pass. It's amazing to examine the ancient ruins! The visitor center is an empty building with some pamflets and a map. Covered television on the wall. Some installation rooms were locked or empty.

Very nice place to see more of the history of the country in this region. There are even some facilities where to rest or wait in the shadows. We tried a local coffee and it was a nice experience. Talking with local people and discovering the history and life over there. Thank you🤩

A must visit place. Well maintained. Worth the trip from Amman and the route is easy. When visiting the museum ask for Mr Majdi who is an asset and gives justice to beautiful historical pieces available in there . Every person or an officer is friendly and helpful. Best time to visit in fall winter if not rainy and best in spring.
