The War Memorial is at a distance of 1 Km from the town. A beautiful Stupa is built in memory of the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in 1962 Indo-china war.Located a stone's throw from Tawang town, the memorial has been designed using Buddhist architectural and cultural elements, including prayer wheels and flags, colourful serpents, dragons and Buddhist relics. Some of these ornamental decorations have also been donated by the local Tawang population as tribute. All these things come together beautifully to highlight the sanctity of this place. Statues of deities like Lord Buddha can be seen inside. Guwahati- Tawang road journey is quite long and takes around 14-16 hours. The long duration of the journey makes it necessary to have a break in the form of night halt en-route. The suggested road travel plans are described below: Passengers arriving at Guwahati on or before 12 P.M. and preferring to travel on the same day. Option 1: Drive to Tezpur:Tourists may drive down to Tezpur which is around 198 Km from Guwahati. The expected duration of the road journey to Tezpur from Guwahati Airport is around 3 and a half hours. Tezpur, being a major Army hub has a wide variety of good quality hotels and restaurants for the tourists. Option 2: Drive toBhalukpong:Tourists may alternatively drive further down to Bhalukpong which is located approximately 260 Kms.

Dedicated to the Soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Indo-China War of 1962, this war memorial is located just 1.5 Kms away from the Old Market, Tawang. One can know about the sacrifice of our beloved and brave soldiers. The name of all the Martyrs are engraved there and also one can see old equipment used by the Soldiers during the War. A must visit place when you are in the Town.

This war memorial was built dedicated to our brave and courageous soldiers who lost their lives during the 1962 Indo China war. It is a must visit place for every Indian which is bound to instil a sense of patriotism in the heart of every Indian. The place is incredibly well maintained. Do visit the museum and go through the photographs, artefacts, guns, helmets, documentation associated with the war. All these places are at a walkable distance. Visiting in the evening would be ideal as later you can watch the War memorial light and sound show highlighting the course of the 1962 war. Ticket price is ₹50.

Visited on 30-Dec-23 morning, after previous evening Light & Sound show. Historic remembrance of our Heroic soldiers who defended our country is on display. A must visit for every patriotic to pay tributes. We owe to the brave soldiers. Do buy good products or souvenirs near the Non-CSD shop & support AWWA.

I never knew there was a place like this. The story and documentation of the war and the sacrifices made by our Indian army is commendable. The place is tourist friendly and people are very very helpful. The good thing is that all major sites in Tawang are walkable.

It’s a must to visit when you are in Tawang. The place is so quiet and peaceful that you will not be willing to come back from that place. The people and the army officers are so friendly in nature and are always ready to help you in any problem. When you visit the War memorial you will see the true stories behind wars and you will be in tears after seeing those bullet marks in the helmets and vests of the martyred soldiers.

The location is quite close to Tawang town. The way this place captures every detail about the 1962 Indo China war is commendable. Its incredibly well maintained and well preserved. It's overwhelming to read about the stories of sacrifice and valour of the Indian soldiers during this war. The museum has artifacts, photographs and things used by the army during the war like helmets, guns etc. We missed the light and the sound show because we were late (happens usually between 4 to 5 pm). Visit this along with the Bumla pass so as to remember these unsung heroes who laid down their lives for our country in the harshest weather conditions and a difficult terrain as this one.
