I've been meaning to visit this place for years and finally braved the Langford/Sooke traffic to do so. Nice little campground (23 sites), fairly busy with day users, lots of people surfing or kayaking, stopping in for a place to eat lunch as there are public picnic tables. Bathrooms were cleaned while I was there but over the 2 days I stayed the garbage was completely packed full. This place could definitely use another can or more frequent removal. Otherwise I enjoyed my stay and can't wait to come back in winter for some storm watching.
Lovely place. Very short drive to Jordan River surfing and the Cold Shoulder cafe (actually walkable). The sauna is amazing! But prepare lots of wood in advance (they supply it). Overall a fun and comfortable weekend!
Love, love, love this spot! We were so lucky to get a spot just before the September long weekend, we were only going to stay one night, we decided to stay for 5 nights! So peaceful and serene, did not want to leave! We even got to watch surfers one day, which was rainy, windy and cool, but just amazing!
Highly recommend this very easily accessible and clean oceanside camping location! This spot is pretty exposed so you will want to pack your layers and be prepared for wind.Your reward however will be front row seating to nature's beauty in all of her glory. . This little piece is heaven is a great place to unplug and slow down. You'll enjoy watching surfers in the waves and observe all kinds of marine wildlife directly from your site. Cold Shoulder cafe is just a short walk away for pastries and a warm drink. You'll want to add this location to your Vancouver Island bucket list.
Nice spot right on the Strait of Juan de Fuca at the mouth of the Jordan River. River side is super windy. Entrance side less so. Looked like there were a few really nice tent spots in the trees but would require hauling your stuff in there. Vault toilets were clean. There is considerable traffic noise from the highway, but it dies down at night. Overall a pleasant stay for a few nights with nice hiking close by (China beach and Mystic beach). Day trip to Botony Bay and Botanical Beach was doable. We would stay here again.
Beautiful location with vault toilets and picnic areas. A bit windy since you’re on the coast of course. River inlet is available to camp on. There were some sketchy people camping in the day use area but didn’t bother anyone. RV’ers were running generators most of the night (like a-holes - don’t do that).
Want to with all my heart rate this as a 1 star. Just so no one else comes. But that’s cliche. So 5 stars it is. It’s simple. It’s self booked first come first serve. The beach front sites looked amazing. We had a great time. There’s even a picnic table with a fire pit over looking the ocean. Perfection.
If you wanted to camp here but didn’t see available sites, try to come in at a later time. Most of the cars and vans just parked at the campsite for day use to enjoy the view. When it gets dark, more than half of the sites are empty. There is a trail right across the highway that can lead to the abandoned power station. Highly recommend to check that out!
