Amazing beach, little tricky to find as there is no sign with the name MYSTIC BEACH on it. But the trailhead starts from the first parking lot of CHINA BEACH. Follow the orange marks on the trees for ~40 minutes to go down to the beach. Mostly muddy, so be prepared.
A beautiful trail even in super rainy March! My recommendation is bringing hiking boots, but there were definitely some people who still made it with muddy white vans. The waterfalls are beautiful and the luscious greens are stunning to behold.
Beautiful beach after a really fun hike. If you are lucky you can even see some whales while enjoying the view at the beach, as we did today :)
Little bit of a hidden gem, well at least we thought that, tons of people on the trail, though on the beach it was super easy to spread out. Tough hike for kids under 5, if you have a carrier that might be ideal. Very dog friendly.
Super fun hike down to the beach, the suspension bridge isn't for the faint of hearts. Very fun but a little nerve racking! Cute little camp sites along this beach. Food caches here and there for bear safety.
A hidden spot that needs to be visited at least once when you visit Vancouver Islands. A beautiful waterfall and the high and low tides makes the place more attractive. Parking is in Juan de Fuca parking lot. 2km hike through the forest. Most of the hike is through muddy land but it is easy and there is a suspension bridge after 700 m. The total hike takes about 1.5 hrs both ways.
Photos honestly don't do this place justice. We went around 9am and there were only 2 people there. It's tricky to find the trail that leads to Mystic Beach. Don't go down the gravel road mentioned on Google Maps. You need to find a bridge and you might see some cars parked on the shoulder. It's just past China Beach. From there there's a little trail that connects to a sign that says Juan de Fuca trail. Head right towards the ocean and you'll reach Mystic Beach, with caves, waterfalls, and unparalleled ocean views and fantastic waves. The way down is moderate in difficulty but very muddy (we went March 31) and slippery. Some steps and a lot of rocks and roots. Go when the tide is a bit lower to explore more. There's no parking lot or marked signs from the highway, so you'll need to get here early to find parking and locate the trail. 2 outhouses at the beach.
**Mystic Beach: A Wild Beauty Accessible from Juan de Fuca Trailhead** Mystic Beach on Vancouver Island offers a breathtaking combination of rugged coastline and hidden wonders. Here's a quick guide to help you decide if it's the perfect beach adventure for you: **Thumbs up for:** * **Stunning Beach:** Soft sand, dramatic scenery, and a cascading waterfall (visible at low tide) create a truly unforgettable scene. * **Moderate Hike:** The trail that leads to Mystic Beach starts from the Juan de Fuca trailhead parking lot. It's well-maintained but can get muddy and challenging, especially after rainfall. Keep an eye out for the cool suspension bridge along the way! * **Unique Experience:** Explore tide pools, discover hidden caves (at low tide), and soak in the wild beauty of this special beach. **Things to consider:** * **The Hike:** This is a moderate hike, not a leisurely stroll. Expect uneven terrain with roots and mud, especially after rain. Proper footwear is essential! * **Limited Parking:** The Juan de Fuca trailhead parking lot can fill up, particularly on sunny days. Arrive early to secure a spot. * **Potential Crowds:** The beach itself isn't huge, and it can get busy during peak season. **Overall:** Mystic Beach is a gem for adventurous travelers who enjoy a challenging hike. If you're up for a moderate trek and crave a secluded beach experience, Mystic Beach won't disappoint! Just be prepared for potential crowds and limited parking.
