My biggest complaint is that towels are not included, and that was not clear in the booking. It's an extra 4€ per towel. The windows also only tilt open, so it was hard to get a breeze so it could cool down. There were lots of grade school kids there during our stay, and they can be a bit annoying and loud plus they take forever to get through the breakfast line.

Lost my hotel key during my stay, but found it back home. Called the hotel and was told I could send the key back, which I did, and would get my fee returned (which was 60 euros). 3 months, 10 phone calls, and 6 emails later I still did not get a refund (even though I did het the confirmation they received the key). It has now almost been a month since their last email reply....

I stayed at a 4 bunk bed room with 3 other random people. The hostel itself was clean and relatively affordable. Its a bit more expensive than your average hostel but the location is very good and worth it. If you’re considering to go to the yearly gamescom by train, this is a perfect solution as it is right next to gamescom and the train station.

The staff was very helpful, the rooms were amazing considering this is a hostel, and the location is great. Our room was very clean, and the view we had of the cathedral was stunning, the only downside was that there wasn't any ac, so it got pretty hot. Breakfast wasn't amazing, it did offer a lot of options, but the bread for example was stale. But considering how cheap this place is, it's honestly completely worth the money. One of the better hostels I stayed at.

Dirty room, blood (that wasn’t ours) on the bed, no staff on arrival (we did arrive quite late though) had to make our own bed and had no towels, Hand towels or soap. Bugs in the room and sheets were paper thin and rock hard. Also loo roll was partially finished on arrival but was refreshed the next day. Food was bland and horrid even the fruit tasted horrid! The canteen gave of the vibe of rough public school and jail!! Only good thing was it was only a 9-10minute walk to the Christmas markets.

Very practical location right opposite Cologne's "Köln-Deutz" station, although the fact that, as of January 2024, there is some kind of construction work going on just outside (made worse by the hostel keeping no lights on around the building) means finding the entrance proved amazingly awkward. Very quiet, although that may not be the case when school groups are staying, I guess. The décor is 100% minimalistic and nothing but functional. If you get a single room everything works out quite similar to a budget hotel rather than a hostel, except the guestrooms have no WiFi. Good German-style buffet breakfast.

I stayed in a 4 bunk beds room with 2 of my friends. The beds are clean and comfortable. Bedsheets and duvet were provided. However, towel and soap are not provided. There is a locker for each person in the room with a safe in it. There is 2 washing machine and 2 dryers on the underground level (U). To operate the machine, you will need to purchase the tokens from the reception area, which is 5 euro each for washing and drying. WiFi is only provided at the lobby area. The hostel is great distance from a few food stalls and also there is a farmer market nearby every weekend. The location is also ideal for people participating in events at the Lanxess arena.

I booked one night, and I just asked one of the worker in the counter. Do u have Wi-Fi that I can use, but he didn’t offer any help just kept repeating I don’t know. In the end I found out there’s a paper written how to connect to Wi-Fi through scanning the QR code, and it just on the other side of counter. His attitude is super rude and bad. Second thing is that the room itself has no Wi-Fi as well, only lobby. I gave two stars cuz one of the younger worker is nice, that’s it.

I had a terrible stay here. I came with my son of 2. I booked a 1/2 year earlier a family room. The room I got put in normal room. With no safety outlets And no double bed even though me and my son sleep in the samen bed. But to make things worse they were all evening kid yelling in the hallway all 3 nights teenagers and every night at 3 o'clock someone was yelling banging indoors or doing something it's not a family place to go.

The place is super clean but overall it’s just poor value for money. Minimum expected things were missing: No soap in the bathrooms, no working wifi, no eggs nor real orange juice in the breakfast. No AC or fan in the room and the window can only be opened a bit, so the room gets too warm (don’t come here in summer). Oh and check out time is too early!

Also niiiiee wieder Jugendherberge Köln/Deutz!

Overall clean, but didn't like that the power plug was inconveniently placed on the floor- making it difficult to use especially with bunk beds. There is not one by every bed. No soap in the bathrooms either.

WiFi was available only in the lobby but didn’t even work, towels were 4 euros each and room was boiling because if you opened the window the building site next door would wake you in the morning. Otherwise breakfast and location was good.

Very nice bar in hall. Works 24/7. The bad thing is that towels need to be bought as extra in reception, but it cost just 3€ so not a problem. Host are very friendly, helpful, always with a smile! Personaly I liked bar in other side of street. Rooms are small but tidy and newly renovated. All in all very good for price and very good location.

Never going to stay here again! I was very glad to only be staying for 2 nights there with my school. We arrived late and there were no visible staff there upon arrival. The beds weren't made and we had arrived at 11pm so that was annoying as we had to make them ourselves before being able to sleep. One of my friends had blood on her mattress which was not her own and there was no hand soap or hand towels. There was bugs in the room too and the beds were rock solid! The bathrooms were small and the toilet and shower were separate. We had a bin without a bin bag and a bin with one. It was odd. The food the next day looked like it had been regurgitated and so I was reluctant to have much. I did however had a hard bread roll and dry cucumber that tasted like meat for some reason. The location however was okay but it's still quite far away from the cathedral and markets. The area was beautiful near the cathedral and there were adorable Christmas markets so I would recommend the area. The view from our rooms however wasn't very good from one of my friends rooms there were offices and from my room there were metal fences. All in all not very inviting. The holiday was great as I spent much time away from here and only used it for meals and sleeping and didnt spend much time here otherwise. Also the walls were paper thin and with many children often staying there it can be quite loud or disruptive. As well as this the shower did not have a shower curtain just a wall going only half way making very hard to shower without flooding the place. But it was a roof over our head while we were there.

Fair weekend in Kologne. Fair prices compared to other locations in the vicinity. Breakfest was ok but nothing too fancy. No restaurant. Beds are comfortable. Price/quality i was satisfied. Mixed feelings but 5/5 stars because of location and price from the fairs

i didnt really like the food (especially at dinner time) the location is rlly good and near the city. The rooms were rlly basic and only have the bare minimum (no soap or anything). All in all it was acceptable.

It didn’t have any air conditioning, no wifi in the rooms (only the hotel lobby), no eggs for breakfast, no in room safe or fridge, no housekeeping, lousy windows that only crack open about 3 inches (and there is a loud neighborhood bar right below my room), curtains that let all the light shine right through them, horrible pillows, a total ripoff considering I was paying 180 euros per night.

Your typical youth hostel with breakfast that you‘d expect from a youth hostel. The rooms were clean but stripped to the bare minimum. No soap, no towels, no wi-fi in the rooms. At least a locker was included.

This place is the reason why I will never in my life stay in a hostel again. It’s extremely loud at night, at first it was the ventilation noise, then the drunk people downstairs. I complained at the reception, but they said that „it’s a weekend, there’s nothing we can do“. Beds have no curtains and no chargers. Chargers are in the end of the room, but not near the bed. I have never experienced a more uncomfortable bed. Pillow seemed to be made of stone, never found a way to lie on it, had to put my clothes into the pillowcase. I had a very long journey and a stop in Köln to rest, but in the end I slept for 40 minutes!!!! During the entire night!!!! (It’s according to the fitness tracker, but personally I’d say I didn’t sleep at all) I picked it because it’s close to the train station, the plan was to rest and take my early train, but I literally could have just sat at the train station the entire night and I’d feel the same. Awful place to be. Never again.

Good location and price, rooms were painfully stuffy and uncomfortable in the ~30 degree heat. Right near train station. Staff were extremely kind and helpful and breakfast was good

We visited from sunday to tuesday and each day was a whole different experience. Overall I was quite satisfied, especially compared to other youth hostels I‘ve been to. The rooms are not that small, they even have their own little tables. But the best thing is that they have two small bathrooms, one with a shower and sink, one with a toilet and sink. The windows do not open completely though, which I can accept since it can easily be a safety hazard. The beds are not uncomfortable, although I‘ve heard from my friends that they found the mattresses too hard. But this is not a luxury hotel so that’s not a point for me to complain about. The first night was quiet, but when a lot of new people arrived on monday, it got a lot fuller and louder. Not only were you barely able to sleep at night, but it also took us half an hour to get breakfast. What I especially liked though was the little kiosk in the entrance that was open 24/7 where you could get something to drink or snacks if you want some. Overall I don’t think that I can complain that much given that price and because we were mostly gone over the day. But if you’re a light sleeper like me, maybe bring some ear plugs.

Very well located hostel, just over the bridge of the main station and next to the Köln Messe station. Spacious rooms, at least the family room we had. Good breakfast, with sufficient choice and freshly baked rolls. Limited vegan options for you sandwich we but they did provide oat milk and good quark and yoghurt with muesli options. No vegan replacement of these unfortunately. Guys at the desk were ok, bit seemed rather tired of their job. Maybe because it was late at night when we returned from a concert at the nearly Lanxess arena.

Difficult to park around the DJH cars like to park on zig zags and no parking roads. DJH rooms are basic but comfortable lack of sockets and no refreshments.

Rooms comfy clean and hot, but the service of staff on front desk leaves you feeling you wouldn't recommend this .ideal to walk into the main town of koln

As a person who uses hostels a lot, this one was pretty expensive, there were no plugs near the bed so i had to climb off my bed in order to charge my phone, however the place was clean and staff very friendly. Breakfast was a let down seeing that the booking was expensive, it was a normal german breakfast with bread, cheese and cold meat. No hot breakfast.

Clean, good sized dorms, lockers available, excellent location to the train station, very easy connection to airport. Great location to city centre/cathedral too. expensive on a Saturday night, but not many other options in Cologne which is a shame as backpackers will likely leave it off their travels because of this. Hand towel and soap as a basic hygiene measure should be provided in dorms please. Otherwise people don’t wash their hands!! Would stay again.

The place is nice for a hostel, feels more like a proper hotel. Its location is also great. However, we paid something like three times the amount we were initially told because all kinds of rules suddenly applied (especially that we were over 27-ish years old, which they had apparently just assumed wasn't the case). The total price was vastly more expensive than some less central hotels would have been, which we would've preferred if we hadn't been deceived like that.

Good location for walking into the centre of Cologne. The bedroom was very basic with uncomfortable pillows and bedding, it also hadn't been cleaned properly as there was lots of dust on the surfaces. The rooms also don't get cleaned every day, I stayed for three nights and there was no evidence that housekeepers had been in. Meals were cheap and typical cuisine, meat/fish and potatoes. There were the same desert options and a salad bar. Breakfast included in the price is cereals, hot drinks with an odd range of tea, bread and condiments. So in all a typical youth hostel that requires you to strip your own beds when you check out.

A/c and WiFi only in lobby. Rooms are boiling hot even the singles where you can put the window ajar. Very friendly and helpfully patient 24/7 check-in service. Poorly sign-posted from station when you arrive in the dark but close to the station if you don't get lost... Rooms basic. Overall would've expected more from a well-known chain like this, esp WiFi and a/c.

DJH typical super central, large rooms, coffee and shop for soft drinks at the service desk. Breakfast is ok. WLAN just in the central locations and limited. Rooms get cleaned daily. Mixed people in age and live - as usual. Parking for cars is IMHO not OK for families: 15 euros per day. Feedback: Makes around ~12% of costs. If U travel with small children you are often bound to a car and this is contrary to the idea of banning cars .. or to say it differently: it hits the wrong group of car owners. Did a park and ride finally: public transport 24h ticket for 5 people are around 12eur. Great: 2 washing machines and 2 dryers in the basement - 5eur each per run (with laundry detergent).

There’s no wifi in the rooms; only in the lobby, they don’t let you check out not even an hour later, and their cancellation is not refundable! 👎🏼👎🏼 no flexible, no student friendly.... lost €69 for nothing...

  • 4/5 Tarmia K. 5 years ago on Google
Very busy place, but not too loud. A lot of school groups and older people so maybe not the atmosphere that solo or young groups of backpackers are looking for. Quite close to everything. The bed was comfortable and the people very helpful and welcoming. The provided breakfast had good variety, always a bonus. Would stay here again.

The location is superb! It is near all the great attractions in cologne. I think the service could have been better, they were a tad rude. The food was despicable however the mash and cherry yoghurt was a good combination. For breakfast our option was hard bread or the same cereal everyday. However the room was spacious and comfortable and very clean. Only downside was there was a silverfish in the bathroom and my mattress cover had a rip in it. Bring your own pillow as they are lumpy and lifeless. Very good for its price and I would say its worth it! Has a lot of schools in it but they are very bearable. The reception shop was very expensive (got to get that bag) and down the road you can get chocolate for 75 cent! Going again next year, really enjoyed my time at the hostel. Viva colonia!
