Awesome museum about asiatics arts and objects. The museum is not very big as some other people mentionned, but the pieces are of great quality. You can find in this museum Chinese, Korean and Japanese objects, all of this on spread on a thousand year. I really enjoyed my visit there and learned a lot for sure! I had also the opportunity to see the exhibition (this part of my content may not be up to date in the future as exhibitions change), about contemporain artist. I was not huge fan of what those artists did, but I'm sure some people car enjoy it and it was a nice addition to the museum as there is no additional fees to see the exhibition. The museum itself looks very nice, with a garden in its center, and a lake next to it. The museum itself felt very calm and can even be a place to relax as there is a café inside.

Beautiful building in a brutal, minimalistic fashion, reminiscent of Japanese architecture. An inner court carefully supplied and tended in this elegant style is always within sight when walking through the exhibition. Why four stars: even though it is a nice sight to visit and the price is accommodating, I felt a bit bored halfway through. Musea of this sort are slowly being elevated into an experience more than just an exhibition. A broad selection of pieces of all eras doesn’t suffice anymore, as there is so much more to tell and show, other than simple plaques on the wall. Still, a 4 star is deserved, as it is a very nice collection, spanning centuries of East Asian art and culture. I just think it could work more inspiring with a freshening up of museum-experience.

A wonderful place exhibing East Asian pieces. It is quite well organised and welcoming on the interior, with a charming cafe in the foyer, also giving a window on the picturesque garden. The museum has a stable collection open to visits for all the time, aswell as a temporary section changing yearly. The one for this year is called "drunk on sobriety" and it showcases the role of drinks such as alcohol and tea in the works of the artists. Each one of the pieces is amazingly beautiful and telling a story. The place is open from 11 o'clock and there's a special event at noon, with the showcase of ceremonial bell music, which I found extremely enjoyable, while contemplating the garden. The halls inside are quite charming, with plenty of seats and books to read, regarding the topics. My visit there has been fulfilling, and I recommend it to everyone with a passion for East Asia, or an aesthetic taste for the art.

Ein sehr schönes Museum für asiatische Kunst. Interessante Architektur. Ein toller gepflegter Garten. Immer wieder sehenswerte Ausstellungen. Das Museum ist bisher nie überlaufen gewesen. Personal immer sehr freundlich.

(Translated by Google) A great museum about the art of the Middle Ages housed in an old church. If the art of this time also the faith / the church as the only emphasis it is nevertheless simply fascinating with which handicraft skill the exhibits are manufactured. Whether church windows, sculptures, religious artefacts, etc.pp., the love of detail in a time where everything was made by hand without technical aids is really very fascinating.

When I went there, a ticket cost 9.50 euros. When I entered, I felt pranked: it was full of white paintings and children's drawings. They don't seem to have much. Would not go again.

gorgeous and delicate selection that shows in facts and aesthetics the long running curatorial wffort of the institution. It was a pleasure to hear bells from 3000 years ago chinese culture. Granted thar I will go to the next expos. The restaurant is not bad and the looks to hiroshima park and the inner pond are also cool, sadly the menu has almost no Asian Food but that is ok since it is a museum of the city of Cologne and not a theme park. Anyways some fermented foods like Natou or Kimchi would be a great add on to breakfasts. Super nice place, 5 stars overall.

Wonderful museum with great descriptions on all the pieces in both German and English. The museum is a bit small, so you can take your time with each individual piece. Additionally the museum sits in the Hiroshima-Nagasaki park giving you a nice area to stroll around in and grab a drink either at the museums coffee shop (which is a bit underwhelming) or at the biergärten on the opposite side of the pond.

Ps Die Sonderausstellung gefiel mir sehr gut. Tolle Künstlerin.

Well located, in front of the lake "aachener weiher", the museum itself is very lean and calm. The pieces are beautiful, the rooms are classified by theme. But the problem is that the explanations are only in German, and it lacks of fun.

Trust me, its hard to judge ur own hometown. No matther how miserable it is, you always feel, you belong to it. This is the thought I had as I entered the building a year ago. Yupe, I wasnt happy after all. A few weeks ago, regarding a special event, I took my 2 loved ones there. Oh ok, one wished to have a look and I knew I wouldnt ever say no and let him alone. The event was nice. The fairy tales teller was awesome eventhough the stories were from the major lands. To my surprised the ones I never heard before. The musuem itself is well maintained and has a medium size, equiped with small theater, library, bookshop and nice cafe-restaurant. But my opinion to the whole concept stays. You should not ever say that you are talking about East Asian if it is only (majorly) included China, Japan n Korea. Or should someone open a South East Asian Museum in town?

(Translated by Google) Basically a very relaxing place, except for a sporadically screaming toddler who snatches you away from the moment. But of course the place can do nothing because it is a city museum, so that it cannot issue a ban on children on its own initiative. (The city of Cologne gets a star deduction). The security guards are all very nice and advise you when taking a photo not to use my backpack to outline the millennial Japanese scrolls. There is also a parking disc for a small deposit so that the private parking monitoring company does not give you a 30 € ticket. (Really good!) All in all worth a visit. (Richtig gut!) Alles in Allem einen Besuch wert.

Superb collection but disappointed in officious staff who follow one around, seem to think elderly single women will vandalise objects on display. Also v uncomfortable not to be allowed to take handbags in. Stupid policy as more likely to knock something by accident if hands are full than if we can put objects in a small bag.

(Translated by Google) Quite an interesting museum with a more modern museum concept. Anyone interested in medieval art and history will get their money's worth. The combined ticket with the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum is recommended. The fact that one museum is not that big now means that both museums can be visited together in one day. Maybe like to work with more modern museum concepts. But I think there is a will to improve. I can not say anything about special exhibitions, because so far not noticed. Friendly employees. Freundliche Mitarbeitende.

(Translated by Google) the museum itself is very interesting and worth a visit. however, i have never (and i have been to some museums) been so disrespectfully plummed as here by one of the supervisors. as icing on the cake I then poisoned myself further, I probably had "no upbringing"! (I had dared to accidentally touch a (large, wooden) exhibit. I don't dare to come in here a second time.

Relatively small collection of medieval religious art but still there are some very impressive pieces. In particular the carved oak pieces are lovely and the memento mori fascinating. I was in here for not very long. A discount is provided with the CologneCard but I still think it’s somewhat pricey.

(Translated by Google) Extraordinary museum partly housed in the Cäcilienkirche, the church of Santa Cecilia, a treasure trove of works dating back to the Middle Ages, from the Carolingian period to the sixteenth century. It allows you to enjoy very different works from each other: it ranges from stained glass windows to books, from diptych to ivory comb, from statues of saints, apostles, Madonnas, to crucifixions, from fabrics to liturgical furnishings. The East Asian Heritage Museum is a beautiful small building that will take you to Eastern Asia, located just next to Hiroshima-Nagasaki Park, I recommend hopping off at the University Banhof, which is directly next to the museum, now you can choose between walking around the giant pond and the arounds first or visiting the museum. For a good visit, allow a couple of hours, as the building, even if it seems small, contains a lot of treasures.

Set in the middle of parkland near the university, this little gem of a museum is well-curated, with some exceptional artefacts. The English translations ran out about halfway through the museum (maybe our concentration levels were expected to drop!), but well worth a visit

The Museum for East Asian Art was opened in 1913 as the first specialist museum of its kind in Europe. Together with the Museum für Asiatische Kunst (Museum of Asian Art) in Berlin it now houses the most important collection of art from China, Korea and Japan in Germany. With their collection, the museum’s founders hoped to convey a comprehensive picture of every genre and period of East Asian art. But in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, it was anything but easy to imagine how Chinese art, for example, had developed. China was in a semi-colonial state; there were no public museums. Only in Japan were there already national museums set up on the Western model, in Tokyo, Kyoto and Nara, where not only Japanese art but also treasures from China were collected and exhibited. Fischer’s diaries make it clear that he often visited the museums and fostered close contacts with their directors and curators. Before deciding on major purchases, he would study comparable items in museums and seek expert advice. The Fischers also acquired all the specialist literature they could lay their hands on – which was not in fact very much, as East Asian art history as a scholarly discipline was still in its infancy. In fact it was only helped off the ground by collecting pioneers like the Fischers in the first place. The Fischers’ purchasing trips to Japan were fairly comfortable, in contrast to China, which still had neither a nationwide rail network nor a single currency. On their travels, the Fischers would start from the German naval base at Qingdao (traditionally: Tsingtao) and follow the route of the geologist and geographer Ferdinand von Richthofen (1833–1905). They covered long stretches in mule-drawn carts. Pictures of their caravans in the loess mountains of Shaanxi, along with diary entries describing weeks of monsoon rains, basic accommodation and hostile militias give some idea of how strenuous and dangerous travelling in China was. The Fischers acquired numerous art treasures in Beijing at the Liulichang antiques market, mostly from Chinese but also from European traders, but also from pedlars trading from no fixed location who carried their wares around with them. It is noteworthy that they rarely succeeded in buying high-quality painting or calligraphy in China; the items on sale were mostly of stone, bronze, pottery, porcelain or jade.

worth a visit. nice on a warm day with fresh and cool AC. Nice staff and interesting exhibits. especially the japanese prints. only downside is perhaps that it is almost a bit too cold and the exhibit could be a bit modernised. would be nice with some more visuals or such to showcase more of the history behind the pieces. but definitely worth the 9 euros. recommend

A hidden gem in Cologne well worth a detour from the most popular routes. The collection is small but very well curated. It's a great way for spending a couple of hours doing something different.
