Loved the birthplace of Eau de Cologne. 😍 I treated myself with an Original and a Tina Farina Jungfrau/Intellect. Both are amazing. I am sad to have missed the guided tour though! 😢 The guided tour price is €9/person which lasts an hour. Seems pretty reasonable 😉 and it conducted in German, English and Chinese.

Interesting tour of the perfume factory. The tour guide was entertaining and informative. He was in character throughout and very quick witted and amusing. It was very helpful to have the tour in English. Thoroughly recommended. Note: no toilets.

The guided English tour was way too good!!! Could have given a 6 star rating if it were possible. Students with ISIC card will get 50% discount on the ticket so I had to pay only 2.5euros for the guided tour of the museum along with a small souvenir at the end. Highly recommended!!!

Please do yourself a favor and get the Costume/Historical guided tour! It costs 9€ and I promise you, it will be wonderful! We learned a lot from it, it was so much fun and a detailed explanation was given. The actor who plays Mr. Farina was so good that I almost believed that he was part to the Farina’s family. I would totally recommend this tour to friends and family :)

It was OK and interesting to know the short history behind Cologne, but naturally this tour focuses on their brand and founder instead of a general history. It was fun to try and guess what scents we were sniffing. Not a must to do as I wouldn’t have chosen it if I had known

What an experience! What a guy! Very knowledgeable and witty! Filled with interesting facts not only about fragrances but the time and how things developed from the 1700 till present day. Interactive and educational. Lockers were present. You leave with a little parting gift! No pictures allowed inside which is for the better as you’re immersed into the entire experience

Now this is a lot of fun! Have you ever wondered about the history of the fragrance that we call Cologne? Well, wonder no more! We booked a historic tour (in English - other languages are available) and really enjoyed it. But book in advance - they sell out on popular days/peak times. The shop is well stocked and it is all very reasonably priced. We used the Park and (train) Ride option - it's a good deal, and you are dropped off in the middle of town.

I really loved this place. I highly recommend going to the tour as its only five euros and so informative. Our guide was so charismatic and had such a good command of English. Photos cannot be taken but it really is a nice cozy place to learn to stimulate your senses and learn more about the history of perfume and Farina.

Absolutely a hidden gem in Cologne. Beautiful church with a lot of history behind it. I visited when there was no one else there and the silence was near deafening making it s rather surreal experience. I would highly recommend visiting this church before Kölner Dom as it will allow you to appreciate just how much larger it is.

Pleasantly surprised but this church. It has quite a sober vibe inside but that makes it very beautiful. I especially liked the stained glass windows which we're modern and pretty.

This museum is dedicated John Maria Farina, his development of Cologne and the oldest fragrance factory still in use in the world. The tour has lots of information about the production of cologne from the guide and via exhibits. An interesting tour. The museum is also part shop were you can try and by the original Eau de Cologne or some other fragrance. I smelt Cologne in Cologne!

Not so much a museum as a tour so make sure to book tickets in the right language a few days *before* you visit as there are limited numbers (you can book on the website). Learnt some surprising things about perfume making - just the right length. It's an old building and no lift so not accessible to wheelchair users.

I have no interest in perfume but went with my wife. Despite this, the short tour was surprisingly interesting, informative and good value for money. Recommended if you have an hour to spare. You should pre-book it you want an English language tour.

You can only do a tour in here, but the tour is very weird. The guy who presents it is dressed in an old-school costume literally talking as if he still lives in the year ~1800. Must be fun for kids but for adults? - further no toilets or aircon. I was trying not to faint with 30 degrees and a mask on. The second I tried to breath through my nose I got told to put it back on. As I couldn't get any water or something I just left. Not a good trip on a hot day.

I was rather disappointed by this place. Wanted to buy and learn more about perfumes and cologne water but instead the English tours were lacking and when I wanted to buy a fragrance I sadly found out that they have almost no persistence on the skin. The building outside is nice though

Tour of the first cologne ever produced! Note: make sure to bring a mask as they still ask you to wear it and avoid having to buy one last minute!!

Well worth the visit! Very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide with interactive activities during the tour. ***NOTE: They’re still requiring visitors to wear a mask, so bring one in advance to avoid having to buy one of the ones that they sell. The history of fragrance is so much more interesting than I could’ve ever imagined, and we learned lots of fun facts (and some very strange facts too!) You’ll also get a tiny souvenir bottle of their cologne along with the tour. For only €5 a ticket, it’s great value for your money. Book in advance to make sure you get a spot. We did the general history tour, and we thought it was amazing. We wanted to do the historical costume tour and have heard many good things about it, but there weren’t any of those tours in English today. Photos aren’t allowed in the downstairs part of the tour, but you can still get some very nice ones in the entrance/shop where they sell the cologne. All in all - you can’t go to Cologne and not learn about the history of cologne! So definitely go to Farina’s Cologne Museum during your stay here.

I booked a tour in English, and the gentleman 🎩 explained the story behind the de colon. He took us to 1709, when the Italian Farina created the cologne. His perfume "workshop" was on the lower floor, where we were told the story. I recommend this experience 🙌🏻

They claim that their colognes are the oldest and first in Cologne, and that the more internationally known brand "4711" is a variation of their original private formula. Biz is strictly family-owned and controlled. No other outlet in the world selling their products. Prices seem pricey.

As we started our tour everyone got a little spray of the Eau De Cologne, it smelled great on my friend but on me it went spicy, which isn't bad just not a smell I like on myself! But the tour was great! Our tour guide spoke perfect English and we had no trouble understanding him! We got to smell many different natural smells, hear great stories, and learn about the original cologne and its maker! We ended up buying some beautiful perfumes!

If you take a tour, you can go underground and listen to the description. But it almost passes by. I can't take pictures. Don't expect a tour of the museum. I appreciated all the explanation about the history of perfume. I think It could have been better to give some more time to look into little exhibition underground, or decrease the amount of people for a group tour. I could only glance on all the intriguing collections and small 'perfume workshop' nearby the staircase. Please give people doing the tour more time to enjoy the visuals you collected. As you look from the opposite side of the Rhine, three buildings immediately stand out - the cathedral, the town hall and this magnificent romanesque church. The "current" church was built between 1150 and 1250 although it had to be almost completely restored after World War Two and only reopened in 1985.

  • 4/5 G L L. 4 years ago on Google
I don't like any place where photography is not allowed during non worship hours. The Great Saint Martin Church (German: Groß Sankt Martin, mostly Groß St. Martin) is a Romanesque Catholic church in Cologne, Germany. Its foundations (circa 960 AD) rest on remnants of a Roman chapel, built on what was then an island in the Rhine. The church was later transformed into a Benedictine monastery. The current buildings, including a soaring crossing tower that is a landmark of Cologne's Old Town, were erected between 1150-1250. The church was badly damaged in World War II; restoration work was completed in 1985.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful on the outside, very simple on the inside. But what defines a church of God is not the decoration, but what is lived in it. Here the believers can calmly talk to God in their thoughts. The prophet Isaiah worked in Judah from 740-701 BC. Isaiah 7: 14 + 15 = That is why the Lord will give you a sign: See, the virgin will conceive and she will give birth to a son and give him the name Immanuel (God with us). He will eat butter and honey until he knows to reject evil and choose good.

Interesting little tour, nice if you need something to break up your day wandering around Cologne- but wouldn’t say it’s a “must see”. (A peak inside the gift shop and couple questions would suffice as well). More information on the Farina history than technical perfume making as such and a game of guess the scent at the end. Worth price of admission though. (5€)

We really enjoyed our visit to Farina Haus. We did a general English tour and the guide was really welcoming, knowledgeable and good humoured. Highly recommend checking it out but book tickets in advance online then you can select a specific tour time.

Please buy a ticket in advance and check the language available ! I did the regular 5 Euro in English during the weekday :) Noted that you can not attend the museum zone without a ticket. I love the idea of inclusive your but I still find it is unnecessary to still wear mask, especially during the summer. When we reached there, we have a free locker to store our belonging and no photo allow during the tour. The tour start at the second floor of the place and cover the history of perfume, and the emergence of Cologne perfume. Then we walked down to see the working area of Farina and slowly move to the scene labs that we can smell different essential oil. At the end, they already gift us a mini perfume which cost like 8 Euro. Therefore, if you like informative tour that you can always ask questions and join with little groups then it is perfect. The tour guide is just charming knowledgeable and good entertainer. At the store, they mainly sell the Cologne perfume in different size. There are also a limited editions.

  • 1/5 tatooland 1 year ago on Google
Disappointed, it’s again a tourist trap. You’ll learn nothing about how the perfumes are actually made, you’ll only learn (superficially) about the brand and its history. It’s not a museum, it’s two rooms, in a basement, with an old desk, some empty bottles, perfume trials and a guy in a costume… Whao… 🥱 You can’t take any pictures… which is not surprising as there’s almost nothing to see in the so-called “museum”, so if people were taking pictures all could be accessed online and would take max. 3min to see all the things to visit. At the end, you’ll get a 4mL Cologne sample. Bank cards are accepted. Very disappointing.

I did the historical guided tour in English. You absolutely have to book in advance. It was a fun and interactive experience packed into a 45-60 minute guided tour. I highly recommend visiting if you find yourself in the area and can spare that short amount of time. Historical means the tour guide was dressed in period costume, which made the experience engaging. He guides you through this journey through time with humour and knowledge. I do think the tour was too short to fully take in all the historical objects on display though. The price was 12 euros and I think it is worth it as you will leave with a complimentary gift.

They denied us entry because we had a stroller. We booked in advance and took the train to Cologne just for this. When we got there they told us to leave our stroller (with our daughter asleep inside it) in the closet. When we refused, they gave us a refund and told us to get out. Outrageous. I wonder if they deny entry to wheelchair users as well?

As this is a must do visit in the city, as this was the place where the first Farina ancestor invented the famous eau di cologne, we decided to visited the place and museum. It is required to book and pay your tour in advance online. They offer the tour in several laungages, no spanish or italian. When you arrive it is offered a guardrobe to leave your staff. Then, the receptionist welcomes you with a quick Farina eau di cologne spray and show you the tour meeting point upstairs. The guide of the tour was professional, but we noticed he was always in a rush, controlling his watch all the time. We visited 3 rooms of the museum with him, without being offered a minute to look around by ourselves all pieces exposed. He explained the history in a general way ( we had done the free walking tour of the city the day before and the guide had told us much more information about Faena and the eau di cologne than the Faena tour guide). We enjoyed the final part of the tour where it was organized a kind of quiz where we were offered 3 different fragances that we had to smell and guess the main ingredient. At the end of the tour a sample of the eau the parfum is given to each participant, and then you have plenty of time in the shop to try and buy the one/s you want. We do not offered a 5 star to the tour as it does not offer just a few minutes for participants to look all important items around. I strongly reccommend to do the free walking tour of the city before going to visit Farina's museum.
