The Overstolzenhaus is a 13th century building that was largely rebuilt to the original design after it was almost destroyed in the Second World War. The building is very distinctive in having a Romanesque design and a stepped gable common to Ducth and Flanders architecture, but less common in Germany. The facade of the building has an attractive row of windows with with arches of multi-circular design that form a sort of clover leaf. Not sure about all the five stars, it’s a bit overrated in my opinion.

It's good that it has been preserved as a residential and trading house from the Romanesque period of Cologne's proud merchants and patricians to our time! Not far from the harbor and very close to the city center, you should definitely take a look at it when visiting Cologne - an excellent piece of living city history - it's also a pleasure to look at in the evening! Today the School of Media Art is based here and is leading the building into the future!

Over time, this house has had different names, mostly after its owners; today it is known to us by the family name of its founder. The Romanesque patrician house was built between 1220 and 1225 by Blithildis Overstolz. In contrast to the facade on the courtyard side, the facade on the street side was elaborately designed with differently shaped and decorated windows and a stepped gable. The Second World War left severe damage in the old town, but spared the facade of the building and this was the only way the house could be rebuilt true to the original. Until 1986, the building served as an exhibition space for the Decorative Arts Museum in Cologne. In 1990, the KHM - Academy of Media Arts, the first university of its kind in Germany, began teaching there. The house now houses the KHM's large library.

It is the largest and oldest patrician house in Germany. The interior of the house is worth seeing.

(Translated by Google) An interesting building hidden on a side street. Will probably be used as a library. One of the city's oldest buildings. (Original) En interessant bygning skjult på en side gade. Bliver formentlig brugt som et bibliotek. En af byens ældste bygninger.

I had to pee on the balcony of Overstolzenhaus once. The school was having a party. Since over-enthusiastic me was not allowed to spend more time than 8 a.m to 8 p.m at university (KHM), I couldn't use the toilet in the house. A drunk secretary and a student were still talking in the hall. I couldn't walk there to get to the toilets on the other side of the hall.

Romanesque tenement house from the 13th century. The building, squeezed among other modern buildings, makes a wonderful impression. Unfortunately, there are cars parked in front of the building and it is difficult to take a nice photo here. It is located near the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the Capitoline Hill.

Beautiful old patrician house in the old town of Cologne. Located somewhat hidden in the south of the old town. The facade is decorated and definitely worth seeing.

So interesting! It's a miracle that this relic from the past survived the two world wars!

As the only remaining late Romanesque patrician house in the city, it is certainly a sight to see. However, it can only be viewed from the outside and not a museum! Located somewhat hidden behind the malt mill (Höhnerstall)

Beautiful place right in the heart of Cologne not far from the town hall and main train station. Ideal place for wedding photos, as a meeting point with friends or for eating out in the immediate vicinity. Inside it is ideal for meetings etc.
