My 2nd favourite historical site in Cologne. Easy to overlook, but a shame to miss. You go under the city to see historical Roman city hall/ Palace remains. It doesn't take too long to do, but is well worth any detour. They found the ruins during rebuilding after WWII, and decided to protect it by building an underground cement cover of some sort. WOW! The staff here dont speak much or any English but the main chap, an older gentleman, did an amazing and brilliantly animated job of hand gesturing how to best experience the exhibits. If this place was in the UK all the items would be at least 6 feet behind a rope and glass but you could actually touch some of the old statues and finds in this place, there wasn't a sign in English to say I couldn't so assumed it was ok to do so?! I loved this museum. I was with a friend from overseas and we didn't book any tour but I will return with a booked tour that much I enjoyed it. The sewage tunnel is nothing for the faint heart.
