Do not hesitate to fill your belly and your heart here! The food is amazing. The family that runs the place is sweet, humble, kind & genuine. The atmosphere is perfect...with a beautiful atrium and Hawaiian music playing, it is just a wonderful place to visit! I highly recommend the chantilly pancakes or the sweet bread french toast. But my husband had the corned beef hash and you can tell they were fresh, homemade patties and he said they tasted as good as they looked.

We were trying to find a breakfast spot that was half way between where we were staying at the Hale Koa and where a friend lived on the Island. My friend has lived on the island over 15 years and did not know of this restaurant. So glad we found it! We did wait about 20 minutes for a table. But definitely worth the wait. I had no idea what to expect, and was unsure of having a breakfast with gravy on it, but it was so delicious!! I had the Kapoho Moco Mini but with fried rice, and my husband had something he modified on top of a waffle. Honestly I don’t know what it was, but he said it was delicious. My friend had a Kalawe Salad with Chicken. She said it was very good. She did have to ask several times and two servers to get some extra won ton chips, and had to wait several minutes to get a knife to cut the chicken. She thought it was a great find and will definitely go back she said. I say its a hidden gem, because its kinda hidden in the middle of the courtyard of the building its in. At first we weren’t sure the GPS directions were right.

Saturday Brunch at Cafe Kalawe. Service should be 7 stars and Food is 4.5. We both have the steak and eggs and shared the surprisingly scrumptious waffle. Did not take any food photo since we devoured/inhaled our food :D

I was looking for a local restaurant for breakfast near botanical garden and happened to find this place. Staff are super friendly and we both had the loco mocos and they were both delicious. Grabbed a slice of chocolate pistachio cake for later tonight with coffee☺️

Today was the was my 1st experience at this restaurant. I made a takeout phone order for the 4-choice omelet with spinach, mushroom, cheese, and corned beef hash for a $2 upcharge. Unfortunately, I was very unhappy with my breakfast plate. The eggs had a incredibly noticeable burnt taste. You could tell the spinach was old and wilted. There was also very little corned beef. This meal cost me $27, including the tip. Absolutely not worth the paper. The saving grace for this place is that the people very extremely polite and treated me with the utmost Aloha. As for the atmosphere, I was only in there for a few minutes as I waited for my food but it is definitely a place for locals to have their coffee and talk story with pleasant people. I personally felt it was a bit on the dull side.

We stopped here for a few quick bite prior to our day excursions. The staff were so sweet and attentive. Atmospheres was very homey, they were also setting up live music but we left before the w could hear them play. Food was amazing and unique. We always want to try new cusines on our trips and this was definitely a hit. My husband devoured every last bite of the Hapa Moco regular size and I found the Kapoho Moco Mini more than filling. Would definitely go back!

Great breakfast and lunch place with simple and great tasting local food. Clean and courteous and well kept. The staff made sure to follow the Covid rules. The wait to order was short and the food was ready very quickly. Breakfast is served all day and we got some free cookies! This is a great place to sit down and rat during covid because they have outdoor seating that is covered.

Staff were pleasant. Food was decent for the price. Wished the food had a little bit more meat. Corned beef hash had barely any corned beef, similar with the fried rice. Other ingredients were good quality and overall the food was good.

If you don't go here, you are passing up an expirience of a lifetime. Their local foods are cooked ro perfection. Their interior design will give you days of conversation AND education if you want to know about Hawaii. Bit lets back to the food! Perfection! Service... comes with Aloha and love. Go! They have made quaint accommodations during this time of uncertainty. I never get tired if the best breakfast place on the island of Oahu... actually the whole 808. 🥞👨‍🍳🥚👩‍🍳

Ate breakfast at Cafe Kalawe for the first time with the wifey and a good friend. The place was very nice, the waitress was very helpful in describing the menu picks. The hamburger, corn beef hash, rice, egg and gravy all over was the best. Very filling. The coffee was very good. Enjoyed our breakfast and the talk story with the waitress. Nice cosy restaurant.

Little different than ones in Japan. Meats are cut unevenly. In one serving, some are thick, some are chunk, some are thin. Meat seasoning was unbalanced as well. Service was good.

The Hostess Michelle was amazing in explaining their COVID protocols. Our server was really good as well. We choose the all you can eat option and went with the middle price. We felt like it was a good price for what you get. Just make sure that you go there hungry and ready to eat to make it worth it. We have 5 in our family 2 adults and 3 kids. But we ended only paying for the adults and our older daughter since the younger 2 were under 5. Our bill came out to $130ish so definitely not the cheapest place. But its a good once in a while spot for our family.

We waited our reservation for forty min then they didn’t call us when they were ready. They sat us in a table that wasn’t wiped down when lots of other tables were empty. The portions are small and overpriced. The taste of food was good but probably not worth it since we waited another hour for our food. The four person table in front of us ordered after we did and got their food half an hour before us. They kept forgetting our order as well. I would go to a korean bbq place instead.

Oh one of my favorite places to eat. Great happy hour..great selection of meats and appetizers. This restaurant needs to be in more cities but it is perfect for Hawaii. I love to grill and grilling my own food tableside in a smokeless grill is a delight at this restaurant.

  • 4/5 Julian G. 4 years ago on Google
This place is really good for cook your own style meats. They have specials for lunch , lot cheaper and all you can eat for $22. It gives you about 25 options to choose from and the meat is super good. The options range from cheese wontons, to broccoli and butter. Definitely try the hanger steak if you have the chance!

  • 4/5 Brit B. 4 years ago on Google
Never been to a restaurant where I grill my own food, so I have nothing to compare this with. We spent about $100 and couldn't finish all the food. They had some cool sounding drinks on their menu and there were a variety of choices for meats and veggies. I think our favorite was the skirt steak and the toro beef (basically a bacon style cut, not sure on the spelling). The novelty of cooking was interesting. Our server was attentive, super friendly and patient with our lack of knowledge.

Lovely little gem of a breakfast or lunch spot. They had well shaded outdoor seating. The food was really tasty and a great value. The staff was super friendly and took care of both my wife and I and our kids. If we lived locally we would come here all the time. But if you are a tourist and need breakfast and lunch near this part of Oahu; this is a great choice that won't break the bank.

This place is wonderful! We were not sure what to get so we asked our waitress she recommended the breakfast plate with fried rice and Portuguese sausage and the Belgian waffle with chantilly sauce. We ended up going with both of her recommendations and they did not disappoint. We love when we can find great local restaurants on vacation. Everyone was so friendly and nice. It’s a must go if you are visiting Oahu!
