This was a fantastic museum with ongoing great exhibitions. I loved 'Matisse in the 1930s' and 'Macho men' exhibitions so much. Its permanent collections are huge. I couldn't even see half of it even though I've went this museums 2 days in a row ad spent 6 hours each day. I love impressionism so this place was like heaven. This museum also has great American Art collection which made me surprised. There was huge collection of glass art so if you love glass art this place is must go. Overall, this museum was one of the greatest museum in the US I've ever been to and I am planning to go back soon so I could see all of its collection. Admission ticket is awesome because you could use 2 days in a row with paying only 1 ticket and you could go to Rodin museum for free as long as you shows the ticket from Philadelphia Museum of Art. What an awesome deal for visitors!

The museum has intricate and beautiful exhibits. There is a variety of art from different eras, countries, and styles. The building itself is gorgeous but the exhibits and the way they are presented really make the experience. It is a little costly, but you can see why once you are inside. Expect to spend at least two hours there as we were there for an hour and a half and did not not get through everything.

Huge museum with sooo many must see pieces! Note- the entrance at the top of the "Rocky Steps" is closed. You have to use the North/East entrances. The printed map they provide has indicators of specific works that are renowned, so on my quick visit I made a point to see those. A huge variety of art and artifacts (American, European, Asian, Modern, etc). Helpful and friendly staff, clean restrooms, overall very respectful visitors. Highly recommend visiting this museum.

Been dreaming of coming here since I was a kid. Tried to run up the stairs and do the Rocky jump but my knees weren't up to the effort! Go old guys! Beautiful view and museum! Can't wait to return.

The art museum is a must-see attraction if you’re in Philadelphia. Almost always an interesting exhibit on rotation. The architecture of the building is a piece of art in itself. Lots of nice places to walk around outside of the museum as well. Run up the Rocky Stairs if you’re up for it!

Visited on Friday. There are some free parking spots behind park (Azalea Garden) of the museum. They could be somewhat limited on weekend. I would recommend visiting the museum on weekdays if time permits. Friendly and accommodating staff. There is a decent collection of art work and historical pieces of variety. Good for a two-plus-hour visit.

The museum is free of admission on Fridays after 5 pm till close. This is the best time to visit with the spectacular sunset view from the west room!! The exhibitions incorporate their representing cultures into art which makes it unique. My family really enjoy this experience. There are plenty of off-street parking spaces in addition to a few paid parking lots. More entertainment including big wheel, Merry-go-round, music, booths on the open lawn in front of the museum for family with children.

Absolutely great museum! I arrived early during opening time so I could experience it with less people. Free entry as I'm 18! Amazing art pieces to show cultures from all over the world ranging from Europe, Japan, India, and more. Definitely recommend if you're in Philly or just an art buff. Every room is worth stopping and staring at the outside architecture is great too with a cafe inside.

Been to well over 100 museums around the world. The Philadelphia Museum of Art was an absolute surprise. What a hidden gem that should be known as one of the world’s best museums to visit. Situated in an accessible area of the city. People were friendly, helpful and quite knowledgeable. Thing that really stuck out was how immaculate this museum was. It did not have a spec of dirt or anything out of its place. This place clearly has top quality management. Great job team!

As someone who LOVES going to museums... I'm always amazed to see something exceptionally grand. The building remnants and replicas within this massive museum are fantastic! So much to see. I wish I had more time to spend there, but we did a very structured 4-5 hours trying to see EVERYTHING. I'm sure we missed things, but hey something to come back for. If you like art, go! If you're new to museums, go! If you like buildings, go! If you like arms and armor, go! Literally there is something for everyone there. FYI the entrance is not at the top of the large staircase, it's on the opposite side and you have to walk around the building. Still out is worth it to walk to the top of the stairs for the exceptional view. Thanks for a wonderful Sunday at the museum.

Coming from an architectural background, this was an experienced of a lifetime. The scale, silence, store carvings and the art displays; everything was just perfect. If you are an art lover or if you just wanna spend time this would be the place. PS It has fine dine services as well, incase you wanna take your date for a charming experience. Go on Fridays and pay as you wish. Experience: 5/5 Value for money: 5/5 Overall: 5.0

You need at least 2-3 hours to appreciate all the beautiful art in this museum. Although it is mostly know for being the "Rocky" steps, don't skip this museum if you are an art lover. We enjoyed the highlight guided tour. It was free with admission. There are various tours you can take. Check with the front desk for times. Take the time to see the large rooms with the cloister, the asian section and find the dog kennel it is truly unique.

An unforgettable experience! Purchasing our tickets online beforehand made getting in effortless. There is so much to see and do in this place that it would take multiple trips to see it all. We ate lunch at the cafe and everything was nice. There was a Korean art exhibit as well as many others. This was my first time going to an art museum. You know you hit the jackpot when you literally get lost inside of all the art. I will never forget it. We will be back!

The Philadelphia Museum of Art administers several annexes including the Rodin Museum, also located on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and the Ruth and Raymond G. Perelman Building, which is located across the street just north of the main building.[7] The Perelman Building, which opened in 2007,[8] houses more than 150,000 prints, drawings and photographs, along with 30,000 costume and textile pieces, and over 1,000 modern and contemporary design objects including furniture, ceramics and glasswork.[9] The museum also administers the historic colonial-era houses of Mount Pleasant and Cedar Grove, both located in Fairmount Park.[10] The main museum building and its annexes are owned by the City of Philadelphia and administered by a registered nonprofit corporation.[7] Several special exhibitions are held in the museum every year, including touring exhibitions arranged with other museums in the United States and abroad.[11][12] The attendance figure for the museum was 793,000 in 2017, which ranks it among the top one hundred most-visited art museums in the world.[4] The museum is also one of the largest art museums in the world based on gallery space. The museum houses more than 240,000 objects,[3] highlighting the creative achievements of the Western world and those of Asia, in more than 200 galleries spanning 2,000 years.[33] The museum's collections of Egyptian and Roman art, as well as many of its Pre-Columbian works, were relocated to the Penn Museum after an exchange agreement was made whereby the museum houses the university's collection of Chinese porcelain.[34] Highlights of the Asian collections include paintings and sculpture from China, Japan, and India; furniture and decorative arts, including major collections of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean ceramics; a large and distinguished group of Persian and Turkish carpets; and rare and authentic architectural assemblages such as a Chinese palace hall, a Japanese teahouse, and a 16th-century Indian temple hall.[3]

I visited this place during my visit to Philly. It was a Sunday, so the entry was free. They suggest to donate, which I absolutely recommend. This is one of the famous art museum cum galleries in the US. They have enormous collection of wonderful artworks and artefacts. We spent 4 hours and hardly could finish everything. They have separate sections of European art, American/ indigenous, Hispanic, Indian/ Asian, contemporary, etc. if you don’t have much time, select beforehand what you would like to see. On top of their regular display, they often have various limited exhibitions and show. The building itself is very famous for the film Rocky. However, if you are an art lover, this place is yours. You can spend several days if you have interest. It’s a must visit place if you are around.

This is one of the best art museums of any city. There's tons of Duchamp, if you like Dada, among many classics. There's a whole recreated Japanese house inside with a skylight! The temporary exhibits are always great too. Curators clearly know what's up. Make sure to show them a student ID for a discount if you have one!

I live in DC so I'm used to free museums but I have to say, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is well worth the admission price. Your ticket will also include other galleries like the Rodin Museum and the Barnes Collection and be valid for two days. I was amazed at the art on display and how close you could get to it! There's a whole room for Ellsworth Kelly! The hallways are even gorgeous. It's also fun seeing everyone run up the Rocky steps and pose by the statue. It's a must for all art people!

We had a wonderful visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art! Of course we had to run up the Rocky steps, and check out the Rocky statue! The view of the city from the steps is breathtaking! Upon entering the building, we saw the amazing architecture, it's beautiful inside! This is by far the largest art museum we have seen! The art collection is amazing! Monet is my personal favorite artist and this museum has more of his works of art then I have seen before! It's an extraordinary place to visit! Highly recommend!

I could stay for days and never get bored. My recommendation is that you plan several visits and in each of these, choose one of the galleries to dedicate more time to. Subscribe to receive notifications of all the activities carried out during the year. The first Sunday of the month is pay what you wish. . All the museums in Philadelphia are definitely excellent.

Amazing all day experience. The restaurant Stir downstairs is out of this world. Best quiche I've ever had and I've had many at some of the best places. The cucumber mint cocktail in the restaurant was also good. Handicap entrances are the North and West entrances. East entrance is frustrating, ramps on either side that lead to more stairs.

I am not the type of person to really like Art Museums but this was pretty cool! It had many different exhibits through the different eras. Kids are free and adults cost $25. It was a pretty cool museum with cool exhibitions. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time for the special ones like Matisse. But, the permanent ones were still pretty cool. It had a lot of great American Art collection. Friendly and accommodating staff. Definitely try to have a lot of time empty to explore the entire place.

Excellent museum. Loved the current exhibition on Korean artists. And finally got to see the famous "ready-made" series by Duchamp in person. First Sunday of the month is pay what you can! Also happened to come during the inaugural Rocky Day where they opened the official Rocky merchandise shop by the famous Rocky steps. Can easily spend a whole day in this museum!

One of the most beautiful museums I've ever been to! I'm really intrigued by how some of the displays are built into the ceilings of each room. There is an investment and permanency and that design that is unusual. The parking is expensive, even with validation. Plan to spend an entire day here if you want to see everything in detail! I was there for 4 hours with a lunch break and I only got to see two floors. You need to make reservations. I recommend being the first ones there; It was so peaceful to be on the floors by myself.

I loved this as a kid and i love it as an adult. We like to bring paper and pencils to sketch the art. The medieval armor is intriguing as is the tea house and temple. I personally find the folk art and historic furniture compelling - although my kiddo usually rolls her eyes at this point.

Hadn't been there for years. Went with my 4 & 6 year old grandsons today. I am thrilled to say they enjoyed it. We only stayed long enough to enjoy most of the third floor and part of the first. The first floor exhibit was modern but still abstract. I was surprised to see their excitement as they dragged me from one display to the next. Thank you to the staff member who approached just to commend them for following the rules and not touching the displays. They were enthralled by the Asian exhibits as we made a game of identifying which statues were missing what piece. They thought two of the items were missing arms which reminded me of the difference in what we as adults see in contrast to children. I had to pick them up so they could see that the arms were there, just not visible from the low angle they were at. More laughter and giggles. My dream became reality because my grandsons were able to enjoy the art museum because they appreciated that it was art. Another Philadelphia treasure added to our list of things to do!?

This is one of the largest museums that I've visited and I must say it is an incredible feat of architecture with one of the greatest assortment of collections. This museum, though it learns more towards European and American collections, has an aesthetically pleasing Asian collection as well. You will definitely need the two days to fully appreciate all found within due to the museum's size and the spacing between exhibits and layouts.

This art museum had a large collection and body of work. We spent about 3 hours exploring the 3 floors. We had lunch in the Cafe and the food was good but the banana bread is a must! The staff was unobtrusive but helpful and friendly. They have moved the Rocky Statue to a lower level so you no longer need to walk the 72 steps to get to him. Admission was $25 per person and the discounted parking rate is $15. Removed one star because getting to the parking lot was not easy and they did not offer a GPS address which left us guessing and riding around until we happened to stumble upon it.

Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of my favorite attractive places to go with the family. I'd take the kids to check out some rooms there and the history, I like that they have a cafe area in the ground level area. You can eat and drink whatever you like there. You can take pictures there as you wish. Also, I wish they open until 7 pm because 5 is early to be closed. I don't think I've any cons to mention. I highly recommend for family trips.

This museum has a little bit of everything and it's the best one we went to in Philly. I would highly recommend going on the highlight tour. You can learn so many things about the museum that you may miss on your own and it's nice to be able to ask an expert questions. The tours are included with your entrance fee and you need to buy a ticket in advance.

We had a wonderful time exploring the Museum. We went on the first Sunday of the month and it is Pay What you Wish Day! I have been here twice in the last year and a half and still have a whole bunch to explore. The Art inside covers almost every genre and the grounds outside are just as beautiful. If you are visiting Philadelphia and want to be a patron of the arts the Museum is a must visit. It is both adult and kid friendly and there is maps at every entrance to help you navigate. The staff are all friendly, but just make sure you do not have any prohibited items before entering (backpacks, selfie sticks, etc)

Great spot in downtown Philadelphia that is a must visit as a great public space. The steps are obviously iconic from the movie Rocky and that’s why most people come here. As well as to see the statue of Rocky off to the right hand side of the museum steps. Be prepared to wait in line to get your photo taken with the statue. We did not go into the museum itself so I cannot speak to that, but you’ve got to go here just to walk those steps (or run) and just see the great view from the museum down towards City Hall. Inside tip: if you want to get a little more walking in, the museum is very near the Schuylkill river trail.

Really beautiful and gorgeous building. One of the most beautiful exterior areas of any American museum. The ‘Rocky stairs’ and the jet fountain outside are stunning. Walking outside and seeing the skyline of Philadelphia is also spectacular. Inside, there is a beautiful collection on Impressionist art, however, I found the rest of the museum lacked the same quality. But a great collection nonetheless. Some good Picasso, Monet, and Van Gough.

You’re absolutely right, and I apologize for the error. Vincent van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” is indeed not housed in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Let me correct the review: “The Philadelphia Museum of Art is a remarkable institution, renowned for its extensive and varied collection. This vast museum offers a comprehensive exploration of artistic achievements spanning across different eras and cultures. Visitors can easily spend several hours admiring works from Renaissance masters, significant pieces of American art, and a notable collection of Asian art. Additionally, the museum is famed for its ‘Rocky Steps’ and the iconic statue of Rocky Balboa, adding a unique pop culture element to its classical art prestige. Whether you’re an art aficionado or a casual visitor, the Philadelphia Museum of Art promises a rich and educational experience.

Quite possibly the best art museum I have visited! Our group visited for a Friday "pay what you wish" evening and loved every bit of the 3 hours we spent there. We spent much of our time in the European galleries and loved the inclusion of architectural elements in the exhibits. Our one point of disappointment is that there was an event happening with loud, modern music playing and children participating in a "trick-or-treat" scavenger hunt through the museum. While we were happy to see a unique way to invite families with young children into the museum, we thought it would have been prudent to teach the children to conduct themselves quietly in a museum rather than interacting loudly.

A fully worldwide art experience from Asian, European, to American Art with outstanding full-size reproductions. The Philadelphia Museum is a must that will crown as a sweet ice in the cake your western visit of the city. Don’t forget to stop over by Rocky Statue and take a picture. You will also love your run the stairways as the boxing star would have done. If you want to save some money in your visit to the museum go on Friday from 5pm to 8:45 in order to pay as you wish ticket. On the first Sunday every month you will get the same deal as well.

Great spot. The current Monet collection is unbelievable. If you spend enough time time in that room I’m sure it’ll bring tears to your eyes. One level is under construction but there is way more than enough to see without it. One of the most fun, and always my favorite, parts about the museum is the shop. There are two shops located on different levels and one is purely relevant to a STEM (ScienceTechEngineeringMath) exhibit that’s going on but it just means the items are even cooler. Check them both out. These are always the places I forget about when it comes time to getting a birthday or holiday present but always has exactly what you need!

The different futures exhibit is excellent! Design, ethics, science, and art collide to bring a brilliant array of pieces that excite all 5 senses. The north entrance is coming together well, but still covered in spots with tasteful scaffolding. Recommended as a trip for the family, alone, or with a friend!

I love the little curatorial moments that make me smile. This visit, I saw a small monkey playing a musical instrument next to a huge classical painting of a troubadour. The humor! The COVID protocols felt right—I didn’t have problems a avoiding people, and it was wonderful to be inspired again. Just wish I had been able to go to the gift shop (the line was too long).

Drove down from New York for the day and was pretty happy with my visit. Friendly staff, not too busy and some great art to see. There is something for everyone and once they are done with the work they are doing to the museum I would for sure go back again. My only drawback is that you aren’t allow to drink any water and that’s hard because with the masks on it just makes everything hard but I understand why they do it but I wish they would do what some museums I’ve been to have done and that’s set up areas where you can have a drink of water or something to just breathe for a moment .

Went to catch the New Grit (Philly Artist Now)exhibit before it closed. So glad I didn't miss it. The representation of homegrown artist in mixed mediums was wonderful to experience. I was introduced to the work of some while revisiting the work of others. Exceptional covid-19 compliance if being indoors gives you pause. Pro tip: Get tickets in advance. Even if you are running late or miss your time still head over, you will most likely still gain entry. And if you are and Access/EBT card holder tickets are free for a max of 4 people (card and matching ID may be requested).

Your ticket gives you two days at the museum so take your time and joy the art, there is something for everyone. Free parking behind the museum on Waterworks Dr for 2 hours (6am-10pm) if you can find a spot--there is only 1 spot without a limit on Sundays which is to the left of the handicap spots in front of the Lloyd Hall Rec Center ;)

This is the best art museum! It was so cool how they incorporated the art into the architectural design of the building. Favourite part was definitely the third floor. $25 for adult ticket, less for students. Highly recommend!!

Very cool space. Visited with my son who has recently moved to Philly and we agreed you could go back again and again. We got there toward the end of a long day but thoroughly enjoyed what we were able to see before closing. Views at dusk we're lovely and we found the Rocky statue as we left. Great day!

🧑‍🎨It was a beautiful museum to visit while you're having a business trip or travel. We purchase tickets for one student and one adult. They offered a student discount. We arrived there when it was about to close so they gave us an extended ticket that we could visit the next day. We couldn't visit since we had to leave but we had fun for less than an hour. 🤔 The entrance was on the opposite side of the building but we had a chance to walk around the museum. We have got to see the famous sunflower painting by Van Gogh and there was Picasso’s art as well. All the famous painting was there. It was a very nice collection they had and they displayed nice. 👍🏻 I highly recommend this place to visit because they have a nice park area that you can have a walk ☺️🍃

Definitely give yourself 3-4 hours to truly soak it in if you're passing through, and don't skip the sculpture garden! When I came here when I was younger, I thought this place was huge and had a lot of varied art. Now that I learned more about impressive collections and legendary artwork - I appreciate this museum so much more. This year, we became members!

Definitely recommend to Philly tourists, lots of great art to see! I had a wonderful experience - it wasn't busy during the daytime on a weekday, we didn't have to wait at all to buy our tickets and were able to browse the exhibits as long as we wanted. The gift shops are also really fun to explore! There are also a couple eating options on-site for a quick bite.

Wonderful museum, a must see in Philly! Museum itself is huge we spent probably around 4 hours with breaks. They also have a great dinning area with large food and drinks selections. Definitely take the map as again it is a rather large museum and enjoy!

The view of this building as you look down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway from Love Park invites you to walk toward it. The walk is about 35 minutes and so with it. Very pleasant tree lined sidewalks lead the way, with lots of interesting parks, monuments and buildings to see along the way. The view back at downtown Philly from the top of the museum steps is spectacular. It is also super entertaining to watch people running up the stairs to the top to recreate the scene from Rocky for a photo op, 😂. The museum buildings themselves are works of art, with beautiful sculptures around the buildings. Lines are not too long to get in. Definitely check it out if you’re in town.

I have been here so many times for school I could give you a grand tour of the amazing art here. I love the collection and how it is organized with information and every so often new artists have their works up or they put up old works for periods of time but most of the time the works stay up for a few months. Some works are permanently up on the walls which is cool and you can see various famous artists works. The museum also does a beautiful job of decoration when the seasons change for the holidays. Sundays are free admission when you pay a donation of your choice. Students when they bring IDs on other days get discounts.

It’s an amazing museum with magnificent architecture and great art collections. The grand hall with the stairs leading to the golden sculpture reminds me of the winded victory sculpture at Louvre. So spectacular! There are quite impressive collection of Impressionism paintings. But stunned me the most are the large tapestries on the second floor, the medieval cloister restored from a French abbey, the Dutch house, the English room, the Japanese garden, and the Chinese temple. They are like time travel machine in a building to bring people back to the life hundreds of years ago. The ticket allows for two days entry. Be prepared to walk a lot as the museum is massive but very well worth it.

Great place to sip a drink and enjoy the art. You can spend hours and hours here. This is an amazing place to visit In Philly if you are interested in art and history. They have an impressive collection of arts and artifacts from different countries and time in history. Remarkably well preserved paintings, rooms to show lifestyle, and cultural artifacts: engraved rugs, and sculptures. There was live music, you can get some light snacks or drink. They also have cafe and gift stores. They do have parking lot for visitors. I recommend buying tickets online, on first Friday of the month I think you can visit it at little cheaper than regular days.

I took my husband on a date at the Museum of Art on Friday night and we had a great time. On Friday, between 5pm and 8:45pm, the admission is free (donations are welcome). The atmosphere was perfect: a live band was playing jazz music and we grabbed a drink by the steps. The museum has a huge variety of paintings and pieces of art. Artists like Picasso, Duchamp, Matisse, Renoir, Man Ray, Monet, Manet mostly find a spot on the first floor. But don’t be shy, ask the staff about specific painting and they’ll be happy to help you navigate the museum’s map.

This is a truly remarkable art museum! One of the best in the United States. Although the Rocky steps are fun to run up and down, it is almost a crime for humans to solely do this without ever venturing inside to experience the world class artwork. Inside, there are five Van Gogh paintings, including one of his famous sunflower paintings, one outstanding Picasso painting, numerous works by Claude Monet, two Andy Warhols and numerous other outstanding artworks by other great artists!

Took a day trip here to check out the museum and surrounding area. The art inside and outside was amazing. The amount of statues and plaques outside on the grounds was incredible. Very detailed and historic. The grounds and buildings themselves were a sight to see. We posed near the Rocky statue and ran up the same steps he ran up in the movie. Once inside we were amazed at how grand and spectacular the displays were. One of the nicest and well laid out museums we’ve ever seen. There was a lot of areas that couldn’t be filmed so we put away our phones and just enjoyed the experience. They have a nice gift shop. There is a decent amount of paid parking and eateries in the area. We pretty much spent the whole day here.

One of my favorite reasons to visit Philadelphia. I love the collections, especially the mid-century artworks and the current special exhibition, "The Shape of Time : Korean Art after 1989". The restaurant 'Stir' in the museum is a plus. I highly recommend the burger. They also have many creative Korean-style menu items that I'd like to try on my next visit. The surrounding nature is beautiful. It's a really good place for refreshing and escaping from the busy city life

This is a pretty neat museum. All of the exhibits are well maintained, well guarded, and well organized. You'll find lots of the typical 'modern art' pieces, as well as some that are more accessible to non-art people. There area few pieces that are interactive, but most things are 'do not touch'. Although most of the items are paintings, there are also tons of sculptures, and entire rooms on display. Would go again.

This is by far the best museum I've even been to in my life. There is a fantastic mixture of art across cultures, centuries, and styles. This is a must if you're visiting Philadelphia. The third floor is especially breathtaking due to the massive architectural displays. I also found myself captivated by the armory, which I hadn't known was part of the museum. This expansive collection is well worth the price, and even comes with a two day pass.

One of the must visit places when you are in Philadelphia. This museum includes notable art and cultures not only of Western world but also of Asia. One day won’t be enough if you wish to see all the notable paintings, sculptures or the photographs that are in the museum. Also, don’t forget to take a picture on the Rocky statue in his unique style. Be prepared to be in a line as this place is mostly crowded with visitors. Every Wednesday and the first Sunday of month are pay as you wish days for the museum entry. Also, they are offering two day pass so that you can fully enjoy the museum’s facilities.

One of the must places to visit when you are in Philadelphia. The entrance steps is made famous by Rocky Balboa . It's fun seeing everyone run up the Rocky steps and pose by the statue. With the famous Rocky steps stairs, be better gear up to RUN those STEPS ! The parking directly in front is $15 flat rate fee.The admission was fast and efficient. Staff is very friendly and helping . We enjoyed our day very much, spent about 5 hours there and enjoyed watching magnificent collection of art on display from different periods. The art museum seemed interesting and never-ending. They also had a couple of activities available for visitors to participate in within various areas of the building. Definitely up there with one of the nicest art museums I've been to. (Translated by Google) Main museum in Philadelphia and I think one of the most beautiful museums in the world. The museum is divided into about six wings divided over three floors according to the time of creation of the works themselves. The best and perhaps most upsetting parts for the works present are those dedicated to impressionist, cubist and surrealist art. There are original works by practically all the Impressionist authors, by Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalì and many others. The only drawback is perhaps given by the fact that the excessive presence of more or less famous works does not make the latter stand out sometimes.

I did learn a few new things visiting and saw some amazing works of are including the sunflowers which I did not expect. It is an amazing place to whom love history and art. I loved. Plus, there are the steps from Rocky movie, that brings a lot of tourists to the front of the museum. Amazing experience. It is a beautiful experience to walk through the builiding and know better the history. They have a great staff and are very helpfull. The common area and equipment are in great conditions. It is a very nice place. It is a great opportunity to go with your family and/or friends. It is needed to pay and get into a line to get in. Very well located, there are many signs to help you to find the builiding. Choose days out of great crowds so you can enjoy it better. There are buses stop close to the place and where to park around the quarter too.

Never again. The customer service is absolutely the most atrocious thing I've ever experienced. Within 5 minutes of our visit, upon leaning in to read a plaque, a woman told me, and not kindly, that I was too close to a painting and that guests are to remain at arms length. Less than 2 minutes after, in the next room over, a man told me I was wearing my tiny purse wrong. That it had to be over my shoulder, not crossbody. And in this case, he was also extremely rude. While I can understand and appreciate rules, the manner in which employees speak to guests who are simply trying to enjoy and appreciate the art makes all difference. What should have been an enjoyable and lovely afternoon was quicky soured by rude employees. It felt as though we paid $50 plus parking to be chased out and verbally harassed. I will never go back. Do not reccomend.

Philadelphia has a gem of a museum. From Monet to Picasso to Bellini to Frederic, there is something for everyone to see. The current selection of Asian art is astounding, specifically the Indian exhibits. The armor rooms were interesting since I hadn’t seen such a large collection before. I appreciated how spread out the art was so there was room to appreciate it before moving on to the next exhibit. We spent about 3-4 hours there and saw most of the exhibits. You could definitely spend more time if you were to read all the exhibits or want to study them more.

The majestic Greek Revival Philadelphia Museum of Art, the third-largest art museum in the nation, has impressive holdings in Renaissance, American, impressionist, and modern art, as well as eighty period rooms. The collection is especially strong in Philadelphia furniture and silver, Pennsylvania German art, rural Pennsylvania furniture and ceramics, and the paintings of Thomas Eakins. The collection of medieval armor is a kid magnet. Pick up the family guide at the front desk for thought-provoking questions about the collection that will keep children engaged, and check out the year-round family programs, especially the summertime favorite Art Splash. The art deco Perelman Building across the street gives the museum additional gallery space and room to display its vast costume and textile collection, as well as photographs and contemporary designs.

First time ever at the museum and it did not disappoint. So many exhibits. Easy to park ($34 for <4 hours on a Saturday). The building is massive, you probably can't do it all in one trip unless you're willing to walk around for like 4 hours. Can't wait to come back and see what I missed. Reserve tickets in advance for quick entry. COVID protocols were adhered to very well by staff and other visitors.

I've been here a few years ago, and We Loved the exhibits. They have truly one of a kind portraits, furniture and so much more. You definitely can't conquer it all in one session. The Philadelphia Museum of Art is famous for more than its abundant artwork inside; it is also famous for its famed entry staircase which was featured in the Rocky movie series. This historic building is about an hour from my hometown and it is a frequent place to visit when in the city of Philadelphia. As shown in the pictures, there are many stairs and steps both inside and outside of the building, however there are ramps outside and elevators inside to allow for greater accessibility to the attractions. The museum has very wide walkways inside and outside the building (where there is a beautiful garden and view) even before the pandemic which allows for greater space to maneuver. Additionally, the last time that I went to the museum, I recall that there was an option to either download an app on your phone or to get a headset from the front desk that would audibly describe the paintings and sculptures along with read aloud the small blurbs of background information provided next to the art pieces. Overall, this is an accessible and fun location to relax and enjoy art for anyone and everyone.

If you live in Philly, then get the annual pass for sure. The whole neighborhood around the museum is great. The river, the parks, boathouse row, the city. The great thing about getting the annual pass is that you don't have to feel obligated to spend the whole day inside the museum. Just pop in and out as part of a wonderful day in the best part of Philly.

This was the first museum I've been to since Covid, and it was so nice to be able to return! The museum is taking precautions seriously, they're strong on mandating masks and taking temperature at the doors. Hand sanitizer stations are frequently around. Some art installations (a certain Duchamp door comes to mind) are closed off for now to prevent close contact. But the art is still beautiful and the space is still inspiring. It's definitely what's needed for the soul right about now.

Without a shadow of a doubt one of the most famous buildings and geographic locations in the world. Thanks Rocky. (You can find his statue to the side of the bottom of the stairs) This building gives commanding views of downtown Philadelphia, down Benjamin Franklin Blvd to the gloriously awe inspiring City Hall. Truly, one of the most picturesque cityscape viewpoints that any civilization has ever produced. Run up the steps, channel the inner Rocky within you. If you are looking for art, there is no better place in the country to find it than inside the hallowed halls of this massive Romanesque beaut.

Bravo! Not overwhelming huge, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is perfect for an escape from the ugliness and confines of our current pandemic state. Plenty of notable works by important artists. Like any great museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art quenches it’s Insta-thirsty set with the crowd-pleaser, “Grand Staircase” and with limited capacity, a decent photo is possible. Dining is very limited but parking is free (at the lot behind the museum) and public transportation is accessible.

This was my first time visiting the museum.. It was breathtaking... The structure from the outside was incredible upon approach because it was just so collosal. But once you got inside it was very beautiful as well. There were lots of areas to explore. It's a great family environment I had my 1 year old and fella with me but it was also a place I'd like to go back to alone. You could probably spend countless hours in there; but I would probably wait until covid restrictions are up before you try. The visits are kinds timed a.t.m.There seemed to be some work in progress areas that make me think they change up some of the exhibits.. with many places to go you can get there by what seemed like the main stairs. The staircase is long and wide with no railings in the middle though so as a person with vertigo because of MS going down after I had come up would've been bad but there are a few elevators. I didnt get a chance to browse the gift shop but it looked lovely and well stocked. I cant wait to go back again.

Absolutely beautiful museum and well worth a visit! They have a wide variety of art—from the usual paintings, sculptures, photos to unique everyday items like glassware and furniture, knights' armor and ancient weapons. My favorite part was that many of the rooms are emersive, so not only are you looking at art but you feel like you've entered into the space where that art would be found. There's also a beautiful view of the city from the front of the building.

One need only step into the art world for a moment to ensure delight in all that they provide to the world. The divided sections provide everything from Van Gogh, Cézanne, and Monet, to contemporary works like Picasso and Duchamp. Most famous for the "Rocky climb", where Sylvester Stallone ran up the steps in the movie "Rocky", the museum offers way more than just that tidbit and will likely delight most people who enter and walk the halls through numerous galleries.

Beautiful place to see if you ever go to Philly and you are a Rocky fan. Everyone runs 🏃‍♂️ up the steps pretending to be rocky. There is one downside to this place. That is all the lazy peddling and hustling people pesting the tourists for money. Do pay them or give them a penny. Tell them to get a job. I call out Philly city officials to address this issue and correct it.

  • 5/5 Chris G. 2 years ago on Google
It's great to be able to visit this amazing museum without restrictions in place. The renovations and updates to the inside of the museum are mostly finished and new and expanded spaces are available to see. It takes at least a couple of days to be able to see most of the galleries and exhibits. The location is easy to get to in Philly, parking garage rates are very reasonable and you have the whole parkway of other attractions to go see. Highly recommend a visit at least once or more!

Have fond memories of this museum as a kid. Always on the schedule to stop at this location and enjoy the art and all of the sites and sounds around the museum. Love to see people running up the steps like Rocky! Getting to the Rocky statue has gotten a little complicated but worth the wait.

Beautiful building inside and out. A great Philly Landmark. Iconic

I did not enter the museum, as I had a limited amount of time to spend here. However, it is still worth going to see the statues and fountains around the outside of the building. The Rocky statue is no to the right (as you face the steps) of the museum and it is a part of modern American history. There are also fountains and statues of important American figures around the building that are nice to see.

Big area with a great view. Didn't have the opportunity to go inside the museum that day but looking forward to it. The Rocky movie with Silvester Stallone was filmed at this location.

Spend any time in Philly and you'll be familiar with the Museum of Art. At any time of day you will see people running up the stairs and posing at the top or taking pictures with the Rocky statue right nearby. When you decide to go inside, make sure you have plenty of time blocked off. They have pay what you wish admission the first Sunday of every month and every Friday night. There are two entrances, a large entrance on the northwest side and a smaller one on the north side. When we entered without tickets to the north entrance, we were directed to the other one. Once you're inside, you will be instantly wowed! The museum opens up to a massive room with a lovely staircase, a gold statue, massive tapestries of Constantine and the famous "Ghost" mobile by Alexander Calder. Tangent, Calder's father made Swann Fountain in Logan Square and his grandfather made the statue of William Penn atop City Hall. The special exhibit currently is Jasper Johns. He used myriad techniques to create his works and it was fascinating to see his range. After that we came across some beautiful works by 19th century American artists. Then it got wild when we walked up a staircase and were transported into a South Asia world. The fun doesn't stop with the art. The real party is in the elevators. They are massive and we only went in the smaller one. Our fellow passengers said that the massive one was big enough to do a cartwheel in. I proved them wrong by doing a cartwheel in the smaller one. Enjoy your time here and make sure to take advantage of your ticket being good for two days and also at the Rodin Museum nearby! Go see some cool sculptures.

This is a must see if you are in the Philadelphia area. I am local and have been here many times over the years and I still return. They gave excellent permanent exhibits and special exhibits. The special exhibit area right now features Jasper John. The cafe has a large selection of soups, sandwiches, pizza, and salads. I got a burger and fries which was good. I also got soup which was not very warm. My husband got a chicken salad sandwich which was chock full of chicken salad. Later in the day we stopped at the Balcony Cafe for a cup of coffee and a snack and it was a bit disappointing. First, they did not have any pastries to go with the coffee. Secondly, my latte was super bitter. The last item I would like to include is their accessibility for those who need it. I have limited mobility and use a walker. They have a drop off area at the West entrance for those with special needs. Also, if you look at their website they do a great job of addressing various needs. They have wheelchairs and canes that you can borrow. They even go as far as to mention that there are benches in at least every three gallery’s. I give them huge props for this to not only have the benches but to mention it on their website. This is a huge concern for me when I plan an outing and it allowed me to focus more on the visit instead of worrying about how well I could navigate the museum. When I was there the staff went out of their way to be helpful.

We took advantage of the Museums on Us program. This program allows you to visit museums nationwide for free on the first weekend of each month. We had a great time at the Philadelphia Art museum. I would recommend the Armer Room, the Tea Garden, and a stroll afterwards on the garden path. The set up makes it easy to maneuver and see everything. Don't forget to stop in the cafe, the food and service there was worth it. If you are an art lover or just want an interesting way to spend a day this is for you.

Can’t really comment on the inside but the outside is beautiful l. And of course the Rocky steps were cool to run up. Beautiful statues all around.

I love the new renovations. I’m impressed with how they open up the space in the ground floor of the museum yet look like they were always there. Kids under 18 are always free! So it’s a no-brained for h.s.-ers to go. Also note that if you purchase a membership your entrance fee is free, parking in the lot works out to $10 for up to 5 hours and you save 20% in the café, and book store and gift shop; that’s a better deal than Amazon Prime! ;-)

This is the best place in Philly. The only place I loved being in when I lived here. I have been there on frigid cold days and hot summer nights. Its nice going inside on free days. But in general it is fun to just walk around. Ponder on the steps. View the dam or city-lights. Or just sit by the fountain or green grass.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is paramount within the nation's oldest capital. Not only is the architecture reminiscent of old Roman and Greek styles, it holds thousands of works of art. The staff is very welcoming and willing to answer any inquiries, and they dedicate their time to assisting new visitors. Whether one is interested in the neoclassical styles of American art or the ancient techniques of Egyptian scripture, it can all be found at this iconic museum.

If you live anywhere near Philadelphia, you should visit this world-class museum. Even if you know nothing about art, you are guaranteed to get an education. The permanent collection is amazing but don't forget to check out their temporary exhibits.

Amazing museum! They have got art work from all around the world! A lot of love and dedication has been put in making this place, must visit! Also, it has the famous rocky steps and a great view of beautiful city of Philadelphia

This was about the moment, ROCKY a movie character has made such a huge difference for so many people over the years! The character may be fictional, but the stories of success because of that character are not. These stories bring that character to life. A few of our members visited and it was an amazing experience. They didn't go inside the museum, they just enjoyed the outside history and the sunny day. Thank you, LEAGUEOFRIDERSMC.COM

I am very delayed in posting this review but we visited before the pandemic in 2018 when they had the Monet exhibition and it was so amazing. To be able to see colors of the paintings and how the light was captured on the canvas is nothing compared to seeing it on your computer screen, a book, or poster replica.. This musuem has been on my bucket list and it did not disappoint. My husband and I meandered through all the exhibits the entire day and didn't realize how long we were actually there until the end of the day. It made our trip to Philadelphia perfect and I would definitely visit it again.

Amazing!! Start this wonderful experience by walking (or running) up the Rocky Steps and spend enough time to get inspired by world known art pieces. I visited on Friday evening with pay as you wish admission, which you can easily book online. It was quiet in the evening time. A must see in Philly!

Excellent museum in PA. It is an hour drive from NJ. Good collection of art. Though it is not as big as the Met. The ticket remains valid for 2 days (including the first day of your visit). However, one day may be sufficient. Friendly staff and good cafeteria. All in all a good excursion for the entire family.

Full disclosure - I'm don't seek out art museums as a fun activity I'd spend money on, but I happened to be with friends who really wanted to go. We went on a Friday evening during the "pay your own price for admission" period. I think this is an excellent deal, especially for someone like me who had minimal interest in going, especially for the steep general admission price. As for the museum itself, it was huge with lots of art of different media, artists, and time periods. Even though it was crowded, it didn't feel that bad and I could have some quiet time to appreciate the art. I also liked how the rooms kept changing in size and layout, making me excited to see what was coming next. One criticism I have is that I would've loved to see more art from women and from people of color. I'll admit that I didn't see the entire museum (pro tip- don't adventure through an art museum in heels if you're not used to wearing them!) and didn't read and look up every single description for every piece, but it seemed that most of what I saw was made by white men. Overall, I'm still not an art museum person and probably wouldn't come back here unless I had to, but I enjoyed the time I spent here more than I was expecting!

This is one of the best museums on the east coast. The parking garage has a 7ft clear height. We visited the museum after a weekend trip to Atlantic City and we still had our SUP board (with a back fin) loaded on the top of the truck when we entered the garage. Long story short, we had to take off the fin, and lower the suspension of the truck to be able to get in.

I'm here almost every month. They have an amazing collection of work! Last Sunday, I saw that they had a painting up of my college professor, Moe Brooker from Moore College of Art! The staff members are always courteous. I had a great experience with a cafeteria employee. 10 out of 10 for customer service!

It is a massive museum for the art lover. 1 day is not enough for a whole museum if you want to go through all art thoroughly, so do ticket is covering multiple entry for total 2 consecutive days. Also it covers entry for Rodin Museum. Worth visiting museum for art lovers.

If you like art and history then this place is for you. This is a wonderful place to visit, there are o lot of art pieces such pictures, sculptures, paintings and very old amazing artifacts. There are good parking lot behind the museum, at front you can have nice view of the city, also you can have a picture of the statue of Rocky if you’re a fan of the movie.

Loved the modern and contemporary art. I was quite taken with the DRIFT exhibit. Check out this Amsterdam based project. Very unusual and stimulating perspectives. Also, the Strange Fruit exhibit/room was moving and very relevant to our struggles today. Also enjoyed some wood sculptures. Very nice collection of impressionist art.

Beautiful experience! Went here with my family, and there as so much to see. Also, I found out that a normal ticket gets you two consecutive days!! (Yes, Monday and Thursday are together since Tuesdays and Wednesdays are not open). Amazing prices of art work everywhere, and there's something for everyone. There is some sections like the armor, and some east Asian sections that are temporarily closed, but that didn't hinder the visit. Didn't try the shops yet but everything looks very nice!

Absolutely stunning museum. It’s got everything. I can’t say enough good things about this museum. The building itself is an architectural wonder and a must see you when you come to Philadelphia. Tip you can go to the side or the back of the building to get in and avoid the lines. Also make sure you buy the city pass. It will get you into almost every museum in town as well as the hop on hop off bus you’ll save a ton of money.

I love the special music they have on Fridays (check their calendar for specific dates) the admission is whatever you donate so it would be a good time to take the kids if you have a family! I could look at that Japanese tea house a million times and still be in awe!! I would eat before I came though, the food isn't worth the price in my opinion.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and it was quite an impressive experience. The museum's architectural grandeur is nothing short of awe-inspiring, providing a sense of cultural gravitas, especially the elevator doors! Its extensive and diverse art collection, spanning different historical periods and regions, is undeniably remarkable. My exploration of the European art section was particularly captivating, featuring iconic works by renowned artists. I also greatly appreciated the museum's commitment to highlighting art from various corners of the world, with a special interest in the Asian art exhibits. However, I must note a minor drawback during my visit. Regrettably, certain rooms, including the Indian art and sculpture section, were undergoing renovation and were consequently inaccessible to the public. This did temper my overall experience somewhat, as I had been looking forward to delving into those particular collections. Nonetheless, the museum's overall ambiance and significance are undeniable. Its location also provides sweeping vistas of the city, rendering it a coveted spot for photography enthusiasts. I'd advise prospective visitors to verify whether any ongoing renovations or closures might affect their intended experience. My rating stands at 4/5 stars, with the anticipation of enhanced visitor experiences in the future.

This is one of my favorite art museums I have visited. My boyfriend and I have very different tastes and preferences and we both found many works of art that were breathtaking and spoke to our interests. The galleries are well organized and museum personnel were friendly. This is a wonderful museum to explore across styles and artistic mediums.

Attended for Friday evening happy hour. Wonderful ambiance and upscale experience. Professional jazz singer and musician. Mixed cocktails packed a punch and white & red wine was available. Impressionist exhibit featuring rare Monet paintings is a must-see

I have been to The Philadelphia Museum of Art twice, but I have not yet been inside. On my most recent visit, it occurred to me that on my next visit, I'm going to make it a priority to go inside. I cannot comment on the interior of the museum; the exterior is lovely. If you are facing the museum, do not expect the Rocky Statue to be at the top of the steps. It is to the right of the steps on the street level in its own section. Everything about the exterior of the museum is exhilarating, from all of the people climbing the steps and shadowboxing, to the ornate statues, to the beautiful view of the city down Benjamin Franklin, to the endless photo and video opportunities. Even the walk down Benjamin Franklin is beautiful. Don't skip a visit to the Museum when visiting Philadelphia.

Amazing art collection, very well curated with clear labelling and excellent lighting. Not busy and it’s the first time I’ve been able to enjoy Van Gogh in an art gallery without being shoulder to shoulder with others. Great value for money as the collection is vast and impressive in a magnificent building so allow plenty of time to enjoy. The cafe has a good selection of food, not too outrageously priced for a museum cafe.

Spectacular building with a large collection of classic and some modern art. Absolutely worth a visit, though expensive - $30 for adults. The most interesting part of this museum is their willingness to mix newer art into classical sections. Lovely juxtaposition in many of their collections.

What a find! This is a truly great museum, I will definitely visit again as I didn't have enough time to see everything. The most surprising exhibits for me were the Marcel Duchamp pieces, including his final artwork, and two by Hieronymus Bosch. A great outsider art gallery too. Highly recommended!

One of the greatest experiences I ever had! I’ve been to multiple museums around the world including the Louvre in Paris and let me tell you Philadelphia Museum of Art left us impressed! The museum stuff is so nice friendly and helpful. The Museum has lots of famous art pieces of Van Gough, Monet, Renoir, Warhol, Picasso, Duchamp etc. one day is not enough to visit the whole museum. ❗️Note for families with children: if you are using a stroller you can enter the museum from the ground floor so you don’t have to carry the stroller all the way up.
