London has some of the best museums in the world and so many of then are free to boot. This museum is well set up to tell the story of of London from prehistoric times all the way into the modern Era. Each section highlights major events, technologies, and traditions to illustrate the corresponding time period. The medieval section and the women's suffrage exhibits particularly captured my attention.

Last months before the Museum moves to a new location. Here at London Wall (opened in 1976) the experience is truly magical. The history of London from prehistoric times to the 90s. All the artifacts very well presented. A great visit for both adults and kids. Let's hope the new Museum site will keep some of the old charm.

My visit to the Museum of London was a truly amazing experience that left me in awe. The museum is vast, and it beautifully tells the story of the world's most vibrant city. I was fascinated by the exhibits, which spanned across prehistoric times to modern-day London, providing insights into the city's evolution over time. The museum's design was impressive, with stunning displays that showcased the city's history in a comprehensive and interactive way. As I walked through the various exhibits, I was transported to different eras, and I could feel the pulse of London's rich history. The museum's curators have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into creating a highly immersive experience for visitors. What stood out for me was the museum's diversity and inclusiveness in showcasing the history of London. They did not shy away from showcasing both the good and bad parts of the city's past, including the difficult times. The museum also made a concerted effort to highlight the contributions of various communities in building the city's cultural fabric, which was truly insightful and educational. The staff at the Museum of London was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable, providing me with a wealth of information about the exhibits. They were extremely helpful and eager to assist in any way possible, making the entire visit an enjoyable and informative experience. Overall, I highly recommend the Museum of London to anyone interested in learning about the city's rich cultural heritage. It's a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in London's history and come away with a deeper appreciation of its unique character and place in the world.

Wonderful little museum. Particularly loved this little car! Sorry if we did any damage to it, we didn't mean to. I wanted to see if it would start up by cranking the crank at the front, it wouldn't :(. My two sons were sitting in the driver seat and pretending to drive and i think they might have possibly pulled one of the handles off from the dash board 🥴. As i tried to pull them out of the car my Pepsi slipped out of my hand a spilt all over the upholstery. 5/5 fabulous little museum with a lot of interesting artifacts. Again, sorry if we've caused any damage to the car; kids will be kids 🤣.

We were running late & hadn’t booked in advance (book one day in advance) so we bought the membership. Worth every pound, because we’ll be definitely going back again! 2 1/2 hours are far from enough, this place has so much to offer.

Really interesting exhibition about the history of London. Lots of really interesting artefacts to see and a few videos to watch. This is not really suitable for young kids, but would be great for teenagers and adults. A really great video about world war 2, but it is extremely sad. Lovely cafe at the entrance too. Well worth a visit.

We loved this museum. Very informative and filled with fabulous artifacts and scenes of times gone by. Highly recommended for anyone interested in how London developed from a small settlement to the capital city we know today. The staff were very good, greeting us and providing information and direction. And its FREE! Well done to the curators and staff for providing such a brilliant place to visit.

Great museum about the history of London from ancestry til now. Free entrance, donations are suggested. Wide variety of sections. It is distributed depending on the ages. Still has a section of the original Roman arches. Ideal to go with kids and anybody else. Very nice staff. 5 stars

Museum has some good and some kinda boring exhibits. However this is personal choice. For me, not being a Londoner it wasn't all for me. However was very informative. I preferred the later part where there was more fun things there. I did feel the guy explaining they were a charity at the beginning a bit much. We and I'm sure most people understand that these places are relying on funding and donations. However we would prefer to donate in peace without feeling forced. After all the tickets were free, it's the least we can do is spare money for them. As I'm sure most will feel the same.

Visited on my first day traveling from London. Didn't have any currency yet but the friendly staff helped me out to store away all my luggage to enjoy the stay hassle free. (Usually the lockers are 1£). The museum itself guides you through the entire history of the town from pre-historic to the modern city we see today. Liked their eye for detail, like the little mouse that is hiding in between exhibits, highlighting the fashion of the time. After leaving the museum I had a new view on the city and could reference some of the facts I learned there to my stay as a tourist visiting the city.

Well worth a visit if you are visiting London. If you are from London and the surrounding areas you will enjoy it even more. Expect a full history using original artefacts, maps, diagrams and models to see our capital from pre roman times right up to date. The walking route is a little confusing but not too disruptive to a very enjoyable visit. It's free but make sure you donate something, as with all museums.

What an amazing place. Everything you could want to learn about London from 450000 BC to the modern day (so one visit may not be enough). The staff that welcome you are some of the friendliest and most enthusiastic I've met at a museum. The Medieval London and London Black History were particularly fascinating to me and I will have to go back soon for the Great Fire of London exhibit. Make sure you put time aside in your schedule for a visit to the Museum of London before the end of 2022.

Only few months left before moving to a new place, the museum of London can give you a summary of the history of the city. The museum is organised in rooms with time order. It is easy to navigate yourself through the exhibitions, read the signs and gain knowledge for the history of the city. It worth a visit. 2 hours are sufficient to give a close look to everything.

A very unorganized, chaotic museum with not a lot of organization in my opinion. Would be easy to miss things. Exhibits were good in places but never sure the order or the direction to look at them. Not enough on certain time periods yet more on others. Needs more structure. Free to enter so worth coming for something to do. Nice little gift shop and there’s a cafe but did not use it so cannot comment about that.

There is no clear flow to some parts of the museum & I think like it would be really easy to miss bits. The staff were friendly & they had some good pieces in there. They could do with making it a bit interactive for kids. Took a couple of hours to walk though it all.

Nice small family museum. It’s free of charge, you just have to book time slot in advance. You can spend 1-2 hours here. Lots of unexpexted facts about the city. Not much information on the recent, contemporary times. But it worth visiting once you are in London.

Good museum with some eclectic stuff in it! Cromwell’s Death Mask. Samuel Pepys’ plate. Nelson’s Sword of Honour. Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee Bonnet. For free admission, you can’t knock it really. I supported the museum by purchasing from the shop. The museum is moving from its current site next to the Barbican soon.

Great free museum where you should give a generous donation to keep it running. Nice exhibits and interesting facts about early history of London. Enjoyed the presentations throughout the museum. Food is available. Remember to save extra time to visit the surrounding area that has the original London Wall and houses the Financial District. Enjoy!

Very interesting to learn about the long and varied history of London all the way back from 400,000 BC. Free entry, and the museum has lots of different exhibits, including some interactive ones that kids might like. Went on a week day and was not too crowded but still a decent number of people.

Amazing place. From the geological bedrock of London to the artisans and guilds up to the present day life of London. A time line presentation of the history of London presented in a way that any person from young children to academics could easily understand and appreciate. Some truly world class exhibits that are well presented and explained. When I visited there were a large number of children present and I noticed that they were thoroughly engrossed by the exhibits. Entry was free so buy a guide and have some tea and cake in the lower level cafe halfway through your visit. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Reading any of Peter Ackroyd's London history books adds to the experience either before or after your visit. Barbican Centre is a short walk away so I tied it in with a evening concert. Don't forget to drop some folding stuff into the contribution box on the way out.

The best thing about museum of London is approaching on the high walk. There are three lifts in direction of St. Paul's to take you up. I've attached some photos of outside. Especially the London wall you see briefly from a shielded location . I hope new museum site is connectioned by a high walk to keep pedestrians away from traffic and give a great view of the " connection " to the cultural mile. I suggest Victorian cast iron at height using the same pattern as smith field market.

This is a fairly large Museum with an exposition covering the period from the "birth of life on earth" to, one might say, modern days. The museum is quite pretty, there are many different rooms, furnished, I think, with love. The exposition is worth the time

Did you know that the history of London dates back nearly half a million years! I didn't until I visited the museum of London. If you're a history buff this is the place for you. Loads of walking so good experience. Loads of fascinating exhibitions. Activities for kids. This place a great, well worth a visit. Free entry but please donate £5 to help them stay open. 5 minutes walk from St Paul's tube station.

A very interesting museum with much to see about London and it’s history from the earliest times to the present with a display of the Olympic cauldron from 2012. You could spend hours here with informative displays and much to see across several floors. Good facilities, helpful staff and free entry it does not get better than this. Booking online was easy and worth more than one visit to take it all in.

First time visit and very impressed. We a home ed family (7,10,13) found it packed full of great exhibits and information. The models in the Roman section are fantastic, with loads of detail to bring the display alive. The large collection of Roman items was very impressive. Staff very friendly. We visited on a week day in Feb, so it was quite with the odd school party joining us. The Victorian area was lovely to see, shops and stores all done in Victorian style but not a lot of information in this section. Will we return, YES.

Don't let the outside fool you. This museum is one of the best around. If your from London or the UK then the relevance of this place is worth the visit. Great for kids education which includes 'The Black Death' and 'The Great Fire of London'. Don't forget to visit the Roman walls outside the museum which is part of the complex. Estimated time spent 2.5 hours. Free tickets to be bought online in advance. Train station is next door. Food wise there is an in-house cafe and many food options 5 min walk away. Parking is free on a Sunday a few minutes walk away but is inside the congestion zone.

It's a really good museum for learning about the city. A lot of space is given over to prehistoric times and then other sections maybe feel a little small? I love the pleasure gardens replica with beautiful costumes, and the Victorian and Roman replica rooms. The layout can be a little confusing (hard to tell if you've missed something), and on a busy day there are a few pinch points- flow could be better. The museum is moving location and upgrading sometime in the not too distant future, so I'm interested to see how it changes.

Very good one way Covid19 system. We're advised about absence of toilets in museum at start, also noteworthy. Inside the museum, you'll get around pretty quickly unless you a particular interest in something. For me, best bit was Victorian street and Roman living room that looked surprisingly contemporary. Loved the jugs with faces! Finally, you know that you are getting old when things you own are in showcases, finished it off with best coffee this weekend, if not this summer. Congratulations to the Barista!

Under Covid 19 the museum is different - not all areas are accessible, and interactive exhibits are shut - but the one way route around the collection is well thought out and you might spot things you hadn't necessarily seen before. Changes or not, this is a great museum and I'm excited to see it move to the brand new location in the next few years.

I think the London Museum is amazing. Every time I go to London, I always visit him. The construction is magnificent and its sculpture park is superb. The collection is surprising and complete showing this fascinating city since prehistory. The fact that it is close to the Roman walls and perhaps the quartering of a cohorte is unique. I always take a lot of pictures, but this time a friend warned me of a strange shape that appears in a corner. It is in the shade and is diffuse. But she convinced me that she looked like Aquilifer, a flagship of the Roman legion. Is it possible or is it just an optical illusion? Congratulations on the Museum!

Nice Museum and very interesting museum that is introducing the history of the city of London briefly from the very beginning till nowadays. The exhibition is big but not too much to be boring. Has what you expect from a museum. Not rushing can be walked in 2 hours. Free of charge. Good place to take your kids and/or family on weekend. Coffee shop and snacks are available. Also, there are toilets. I been to many museums and I must say its one of the best one.

You would need two to three hours to do justice to this excellent display of historical facts and artefacts. You need to book in advance, of course, but that means the place isn't too crowded, so you can see everything easily. It is a really worthwhile place to visit: my only criticism is that once you start, it seems to be impossible to leave the trail unless you keep going to the end of it, which can take quite a long time.

What I like the most is the recreation of some streets of Sailortown, London between 1840 and 1850 because it really seems that you are walking through what would be a street, with its shops, its barber shop and its bar. Very cool! The museum tells the history of London from prehistory to the present, especially in the social aspect, so that you find many things of interest, such as changing rooms, furniture, and even the first computers. We decided to take the train rather than drive into London. We have been to the museum before, but that was before we had our son. This trip was for him really. He enjoyed going through the stages of the developing age and differing societies of London and the slight name changes the Romans Lundidium and the Vikings Ludnum or something like that, and so forth. The great fire of London really caught his eye, the artists impressions had him captivated, quite a few Dutch artists at that. The cafe was fine, except for the poor fella working on his own. Years ago I worked in the city of London. St Pauls, so I bent his ear about how it has changed so much. None of the streets have Road named after them, their usually Street, Lane or maybe Alley.

Fascinating and detailed walk through London's history. Highly recommend for anyone interested in the diversity of this vibrant city. Collections encompass the Roman settlement, religious iconography, Medieval artefacts, the Great Fire (1666), wars of the Empire, plagues and much more! The museum is free to enter but please consider a donation to keep the museum running! It's fully accessible for wheelchair users, they have two cafés and a picnic area, baby changing is available, cloakrooms and lockers are provided, activity packs are available from the information desk for children under 5 and they have a small early years gallery with seating, toys and interactive displays for kids. (Currently closed due to Covid-19 national lockdown - visit their website for more information as entry needs to be booked in advance when they reopen)

Good collection of London history and evolve to great city as London. You can visit this site without any entry fee as it run through donation but it will be good if you book your slot online. Staff/ volunteers are too much comparative. It good to visit if you are interested about London history and it has preserved old roman wall. It is situated nearby of st paul cathedral.

Great museum with plenty to see. They had a great little 'find the rat' trail on for the children when we visited. Kept my little ones busy looking into each display which ment I saw a little more. Clean and tidy with very helpful staff.

It was fantastic! With 5, 7 and 10 years old... I highly recommend on a rainy day. We spent about 3 hours but could probably spend another hour if the little one didn't get tired. We had a snack in the cafe; it can get a little busy in terms of seating, but we were lucky. The "rat hunt" for the children was a real fun& it kept them going....

An impressive work to tell the history of London very visually while showcasing the historical findings including many mud-larked from the Thames. Some parts were more attractive than others, especially for children, because of the interactive aspect. My 8 year old liked the Roman life exhibits (especially the food) and the Victorian feel shops and places in particular. It would have been really great to have something more interactive for the Anglo Saxon and the medieval time as well.

This is a stunning museum! I’m planning to come back a second time to experience it again. Being from South Africa, it was so lovely to see references to my country (Nelson Mandela) and my city Cape Town, in the museum. The first commercial flight from London was to Cape Town! The exhibition starts right in the beginning, I mean prehistoric beginning! And then goes all the way through the ages including the time of Roman rule. There was no wait to enter and the museum was not full at all which made for a pleasant experience even though we visited on a public holiday. There’s a café inside where you can purchase food and drink. Free tickets must be pre-booked online for a particular time slot. There are lockers to keep items such as a jacket and backpack but you need £1 coins to use it. I would have loved to see more of ‘modern’ London in this museum but I guess that would need a whole museum on its own! This is a must-see when coming to London and 1 hour is sufficient to see everything.

Very much liked it. Interesting facts on London history through the years from medieval to modern. Only downside really was could have been more to see and do but they are moving to a new location so hopefully will add more. There is a cafe, toilet facilities, small play area for kids and a gift shop. The main reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that I was with my daughter so didn't get as much time as I needed to explore properly

I went there twice before moved, looking forward to the new look. Formed by the merger of the original Guildhall Museum and the Museum of London, it opened in 1976 and has been open to the public as a museum of social and urban history. One of its featured galleries is "War, Plague and Fire," an area that covers the period from the English Civil War to the Great Fire of London. There's more about the two world wars and modern London. Admission is free, but there is a fee for the special exhibition.

Please visit this place. It is free to enter, however, you are encouraged to leave a donation, and jam packed with history, right the way from BC, all the way to the modern day. It's incredible to learn how London changed from a tiny settlement on a huge bed of water, to the thriving multinational city that it is today, and it brings to life the value of innovation.
