Simpleveld, a quaint train station with open air restaurant next to the train tracks. It's a perfect place to soak the sun when out, drink and eat and do nothing else. The steam train departs from the station. The to and fro ride ride lasts about an hour. The time flies sadly, the ride feels shorter than an hour. The train coaches take you way back in time and are well maintained. The scenery is quite pleasing to the eye, keep you camera handy! Pro tip, some windows can be pushed down (not all), helps if it's too hot inside or if you want to take pics. You get a decent view of the rolling hills if you haven't been here in South Limburg before. Tickets are 15 bucks an adult. Free parking next to the station. Recommended.

This is a fantastic thing to do with kids around Christmas time. Doesn't take too long and is a real adventure! An old steam train riding you around for an hour. Tickets are valid for the rest of the day on several other train tracks as well!

Very nice experience to take a ride on this historic train. The nostalgic restoration is also recommended. Nice excursion, where you also see a lot of the beautiful surroundings passing by.

Awesome experience and fantastic, friendly staffs bring you back to time travel and lots of fun! Thank you so much! This is our second time here, and this time we brought our 88 years old Oma with us and she enjoyed a lot. We'll come again when my family visit us. P.S. There's a very nice pastry shop nearby with maybe the best Limburg Vlaai!

Great trains, station in good condition, unfortunately we didn't find the price-performance ratio that good, organization could be better. But we think the whole thing is really good

Lovely day!! Really fun little trip on a lovely railway even though they couldn't steam because of the drought. Service was instead pulled by a lovely 1950s Dutch diesel locomotive, with the same Nederlandse Spoorwegen logo on it as today. Lovely experience all round and a lovely lunch as well! Strongly recommend as a nice attraction off the beaten track if people are interested! Can imagine great for families too.

Very nice outing if you are in the neighborhood. Restored steam & an old diesel train travel through the scenic landscape of South Limburg. There is plenty opertunity to enjoy the food and local specialty vlaai, which is a cake with either fruits or rice, which my sound odd but is actually very nice, at the many stops along the approx 40km of tracks. Single ticket allows access all day to each of the trains and can be combined with a visit to Valkenburg for example. Enjoyed our day with the ZLSM in the steam train.

I always enjoy coming here, I love looking at old trains, the staff are all quite friendly, and the price is reasonable for maintaining the trains

Only do this if you enjoy trains.... A lot.... Extremely boring to me, barely anything to see with the bushes and trees blocking the view. It's literally just sitting in a slightly noisier train for 90 minutes.

A lovely historic train station in Simpelfeld, the Netherlands, just behind Aachen. There you can take the steam train into the surrounding area. Look up travel days, buy tickets online and off you go. Very nice for children too.

The little tour is priced high. You will get chance to ride in old classic train with window down. Don't miss the engine changing. Mostly it will be new experience for kids.

Very nice to take a ride on the steam train. We left the stroller in the car, which is handy. There is room for buggies

Nice experience especially for nostalgia fans. Simpelveld train station takes you back to the 1940s and the route offers great views over Limburg. The locomotive's service life was a bit short. So it's actually more of a train journey and a little more expensive.

Lovely train and very scenic ride. I would also appreciate an announcement talking more about the history of the train.

Very fine people who lovingly maintain this history of technology. Interesting machines and vehicle material. Also tangible signal and signal box technology. I don't know of any comparable museum railway in Germany.

Definitely worth a day trip. However, we were not allowed the lunchroom. After sitting at the table for 20 minutes and the staff just walking by without looking back and then being more busy with their mobile phones at the bar than with the tables, we got up and went for lunch somewhere else.
