This was an unexpected treasure and well worth our visit! We were staying nearby, outside of Naples, and looking for something to do in the afternoon. I figure this might be a good one hour visit but we ended up spending more than three hours here. If you love trains or transportation at all, this is a destination to visit. They have put together an amazing collection, well maintained, and well documented. We also enjoyed their cafe, immensely. It has an espresso machine that shows off the steam interior. They also use a lot of blue and yellow ceramic, which you find all along the coast and islands here. If you have half a day and want to see something different, you should check this out. It is near the coast and has beautiful views as well, so if your other half is bored, get them a coffee or cocktail and walk around. Well done, Italy. Another gift to enjoy!

This is probably an underestimated gem in Naples! Everyone want to go to Pompeii, but it is another ruin in Italy. This train museum instead exhibits a beautifully restored part of history of trains in Italy. Three big halls full of wagons and engines, engineers dream come true :) And the yard offers a nice bar and terrific view over bay of Naples. I highly recommend this place.

I have been to few railway museums. This one definitely has the best position and views. It is very clean and tidy. We went in a totally unbusy time - like 10 people in the whole museum. So it is hard to judge the popularity. But I guess what is missing is more interactivity. You can watch, go through some carriages… but something is still missing. Perhaps looking to Japan would do the trick. But still, very nice. And the price is unreal! 5 euro if you come by train… that’s like for free.

It was a perfect place for technology lovers, for whom adore progress of trains since beginning to more advanced locomotive. Here you can find the first locomotive in Italy that used for connecting Napoli to portici. The ticket super affordable and a nice overview to the Napoli gulf. I highly recommend

Hands down the best museum in Naples, for kids or adults. Immaculately maintained, interesting and informative plaques, multiple halls, and a perfect spot on the water. Very easy to get to on the train and well worth the trip!

The museum has many models of historic and old trains, some of them you can enter to see the interior. The exhibits are well maintained. The museum is located on the sea shore with a beautiful yard and sea view. Easily accessed from the train station. There is a paid parking nearby. It's a good option for rainy days.

(Translated by Google) It is a beautiful place from which, among other things, you can admire a breathtaking view of the entire Gulf of Naples. In a very degraded place, S. Giovanni a Teduccio this pearl shines. The museum is very well kept and the cost of the ticket, € 7, is worth it all. There is the history, through the hundreds of railway carriages, of rail transport in Italy. The first section of the first railway in Italy, the Naples-Portici, represents the testimony of how the south was a very precious resource for the whole nation For the lazy and skeptical I recommend to go and visit it because they will not be disappointed (Original) È un posto bellissimo dal quale, tra l'altro, si ammira un panorama mozzafiato di tutto il golfo di Napoli.

Very nice museum in a marvellous surrounding, along the sea. You can reach it easily by train since it it just beside Pietrarsa-San Giorgio a Cremano station. You can see many examples of old train and locomotives. The garden in the middle is well finished. There is a bar area inside. I suggest to visit it in the sunset.

We visited the museum with friends with young children. It is a railway heritage museum, which is itself beautiful, as it is built by the sea. It is also very well organised, with some activities for children, and food zone. I am not sure for how long the Christmas market and decorations will stay on, but they are very well worth the visit. The entrance tickets are not expensive and the view to the Naples gulf is a plus.

A challenge to get here from Napoli Centrale as I wasn't quite sure which train to board and I didn't want to get stuck on a train going to Pompeii and beyond. I ended up on the 254 bus which worked out okay. The museum is a massive collection of classic locomotives and train cars. Several dozen and a few of them are open so that you can walk through and sit down in. On the Sunday morning we visited, there was a school trip of some sort. Lots of kids getting extremely excited about the trains and making a whole lot of hollering. There are a few different barns of exhibits so we worked to avoid getting stuck in the same place with them a second time. Most of the exhibits have captions in Italian and English that provide some history and detail about where the train served and how it was acquired by the museum. I found this really helpful!

The Museo Nazionale Ferroviario di Pietrarsa is a true treasure trove of railway history. The museum offers an in-depth look at the development of rail transport in Italy, with exhibits ranging from steam engines to modern trains. The museum's collection of trains and artifacts is impressive, and the guided tours are a great way to learn more about the history and the technology behind the trains. The museum's location in the heart of the beautiful coastal town of Naples makes it an ideal spot for a day trip, and the surrounding area is bustling with restaurants and bars. The Museo Nazionale Ferroviario di Pietrarsa is a must-see for anyone interested in railway history and technology, it offers an unforgettable experience that will give you a deeper understanding of the role of trains in shaping the world we know today.

The transmitted videos have been prepared with great care and explain in simple and understandable language to all the various parts of the locomotive and their operation. The only "negative" note is the lack of air conditioning in the 3 D video projection rooms. I'll be back as soon as possible. (Translated by Google) A real surprise. We learned about this place thanks to friends and we were amazed. The price is relative, honestly neither high nor low. But in my opinion there is .. And the first building has already proved to be truly remarkable: steam locomotives from all eras, jewel-restored. Even one as a technical exploded view to show the operation of the steam boiler and traction! Then another pavilion dedicated to the models, a model of 10 meters, etc. There is also a guided tour, I suppose to book. Anyway .. Welcome: vending machines (including ice cream!) Liquids, a bar, and the spectacle of the sea practically next door .. The missing star is due to the insufficient toilet facilities, the only discordant note of the structure. For the rest .. Go there because it is really beautiful, beyond the passion or not for the trains! (Original) Una vera sorpresa. Ma secondo me ci sta..

A fantastic rail museum, the collection is spotlessly kept and the buildings are well presented too. Def recommend the audio visual at the start, it was amazing and available in English, the staff were brilliant. The equipment descriptions are in both Italian and English which was a nice surprise. Only disappointment was that there are not more diesel locos on display. If you are in Naples and like trains it is a must visit, it is very close (one station) to Herculaneum too so both can easily be done in a day from Naples.

(Translated by Google) Fascinating historical museum. Appreciated at any age. A unique location in the world, you find yourself in an instant, without too many questions and knowledge, in the history of your country. Unfortunately, it is still little known even by the Neapolitans who could enjoy it pleasantly even several times. Each visit reserves you a new emotion and the horizon of the sea that accompanies each of your visits collects every new sensation experienced. Wonderful! (Original) Museo storico affascinante. (Translated by Google) By writing a simple review you cannot in any way make it clear how wonderful this place is. I already tell you that to be able to admire the beauties present in this museum at its best it takes about half a day. Unfortunately, I hadn't foreseen this and we had to leave early as we had the return train. As already mentioned, wonderful and really well structured place. It is made up of several sheds, where the foundry used to be, and each of them had trains from different eras. Exciting is the interactive vision of the first locomotive and the possibility of being able to enter the old electric FS trains. A very long review would come to describe everything, that's why I highly recommend maybe a Sunday with the family, to come and try. It is really a few kilometers from the center of Naples and can also be reached via the public transport line. I will definitely be back in the Christmas period to complete my tour and wander around the markets.

Ever since, as a child, you were playing with trains, you had longed for a real train.. Under a pavilion of a former iron foundry come on board the railway of history. After that don't forget to take a walk around the outside gardens and have a glance over the Golfo di Napoli right from the middle of it. Stop in "Pietrarsa S.Giorgio a Cremano" station (from underground station Napoli Piazza Garibadi platform Metro linea 2 destination Salerno - Torre Annunziata - Castellammare)

Impressive uiopolopoi lokopolopoi I dont know what it means. Read my blog google on swami Sangopadra, innovator of hot metal, for steam only locomotives. 2 10 0 can pull some wagons. Now wagons can be made leighter. And tambien the locmotive faster by lightest metal in the rods and wheels. Counterweights have to be same weight of course. 9 locos now working. 3 in Stockholm 2 in Gävle Museum, from. Locodrivers now can live to 110 in this clean meditative locomotives. Diesel 60y only old steam 70y electric 85 y. cosmic testing judgement.

An incredible experience! The variety of trains, access to the trains and overall displays are well take care of. The view of the sea and the gardens are also breathtaking. If you have a chance to go, you will have a day full of exploration and adventure. You can even eat wonderful food, snacks, pastries, tea, drinks, and café at Cafe Bayard at the museum. Beautiful environment so welcoming. We had great service from Martina, Angelo, and Gaetano. We will definitely be back again.

A very unique museum. I've been to many railway museums in the US, but this one is very different. There are only a few pieces of equipment outside. Most of the collection is restored & under roof. The buildings are beautiful & very clean. There is an excellent collection of restored steam locomotives ( around 30), some inter-urban equipment, a few diesel engines & a collection of coaches. It's extremely easy to get to. We made our visit a day trip, taking the train from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale, about 1hr. From there we took the Metro 3 stops. You walk off the Metro into the museum. Couldn't be easier. The museum grounds are manicured gardens, right on the waterfront. A great place for peple who aren't interested in trains to hang out. I highly recommend this museum, but don't expect any rolling stock, running trains or acres & acres of equipment.

Was here for a congres dinner What a fantastic location, certainly if you like steam trains, wa sat between the old steel monsters and imagined them hissing and purring All is weel maintained and there are explanations in English Wish all museums in Naples were as tidy! My only regret is I didn't see all the exhibits.

Great life experience. Wonderful museum. It’s a trip in the past. The history of trains in Italy. Great coffee shop and warm welcoming from Angelo and Gaetano.

Extremely well maintained site homing the whole history of Italian railway and train system (as it was first created in Pietrarsa). To begin with, tickets are affordable but formulas can vary from €7/ticket depending on the time of the year and on eventual deals. That's why I'd recommend calling the museum in advance for information on ticketing, especially for family visits. Guided tours need advanced booking. I couldn't take the guided tour this time but it'd be absolutely worth doing with such tour guides as Federica, whom I met in one of the pavilions and was just so kind and insightful to tell me a little something about the museum. Personally I'd like to take it with her asap. In addition, from 6pm a basic visit around the museum per adult can be included in a drink at "Terrazza Le fucine". This is the lounge bar located in the wonderful outdoor space of the museum with a mind blowing seaview of Pietrarsa. Lounging around in there by the sunset is absolutely relaxing and worth it. To conclude, the whole fs foundation made this historical site not only valuable but also extremely appealing and and entertaining for visitors of any age. Just go there and enjoy it!

Railway museum on the beach! Great atmosphere of Railway history. It's nice to see old wagons and equipments, and especially thank you for possibility to entrance to locomotives! 7 euros per ticket for adult person, there is excursions in English. I've spent there more than 3 hours. It's unreal interesting museum.

Just 15 mins outside naples it's a short train ride with the station being next to the museum. Full of mothballed steam locos that served the Italian railways, early electric models, Royal carriages and more. A good restaurant is attached and the sea alongside where a view of naples Bay can be seen. Good value for money. Two massive working model train sets complete the experience.

We can only recommend this museum. You can easily spend 2-3h here. Our kids (5,7) were not excited to go to a museum (it was raining 🙄) but then they had real fun and learned quite a lot. There was a private venue in the hall for the Diesel trains, so we could not enter. But we had a 25% discount (15€ instead of 20€ for a family) which was very fair!
