I paid $218 for two adult and one child bronze tickets and THEN decided to read the reviews. The tickets are non-refundable so I was immediately nervous. This experience was for my son’s birthday, he was turning Four years old. Honestly I don’t know who had more fun him or us! The staff was well dressed in CLEAN costumes. The performance was awesome and inclusive it’s like we were apart of the play. The hot cocoa was delicious and made with milk not water. It was actually hot too ! The cookies were thick and not as hard as described in the reviews. The train ride was well decorated and absolutely adorable 🥰 the seats were not torn up or dirty as described in the reviews. When we reached the North Pole it was MAGICAL! I got some awesome photos ! The sliver bells were nice 👍🏾 the staff was amazing and friendly. The atmosphere was wonderful!

It's definitely a place for kids. The history of it all is for the parents. The reason I give it four stars is because the train ride isn't worth it. The price nor the ride itself. The ride is very short and because it's located in Baltimore, it's nothing awe-inspiring. Other than that, it's a great museum, even let's u walk through a train or two. I didn't go to the Cafe so I don't know what they serve. 4 stars definitely.

It was interesting with a tour guide. No coat for this. Several retired guys happy to tell you about it. I am not a train collector, but I like history and machinery. Lots of displays. Several things you can get in. Kids would really enjoy. Teenagers are 50/50. Recommend by someone that had 2 teens and they really enjoyed it. It is very close to the baseball and football stadium. Safe & free parking inside the gate. Discounts for teens, kids and seniors. Would have liked a few more videos or audio.

Had a great visit at the museum! We stopped by on a weekday afternoon and wasn't busy at all. We enjoyed the different exhibits, particularly the Christmas decorations and holiday trains. We'll be back!

This museum holds tons of history dating back to the earliest days of railroading. Plenty of items to interest kids and adults. Docents are knowledgeable and friendly.

Highly recommended for families with small children. I took my two toddlers and they enjoyed themselves. While there were many displays that were off limits, I appreciated the inclusion of trains that we could enter and view. The small reading/train set nook for toddlers and young kids is a nice addition. There is also a small playground outside where kids can burn off energy. There's also a replica train set of the Maryland train system but it wasn't running when we visited. I was probably more disappointed than the kids, though! The 20-minute train ride wasn't the most exciting, but it's a memorable experience for the little ones. The differences between "first class" and "coach" are negligible - if you're looking to save, go with coach. In all, this is a great museum and learning experience for the entire family. It'll take about an hour to 1.5 hours to take it all in. Enjoy!

All the kids love the scale model city with working trains and I have to admit we loved it too. Finding all the details were fun and kept my toddler transfixed for 20 mins (which is a long time). There’s a small trains set as well as a small play area outside for kids. The old trains are pretty cool to see and walking through them transported us back to those days and even though some of the trains were musty, it added to the authenticity of how old they were. Staff were helpful and the cafe is small but has hot dogs, snacks and pretzels and lots of drink options. Randomly they have an old jug with a deer park water label that made me Google how long they’ve been around… Also there’s plenty of parking.

Visiting the B&O Museum is definitely worth it. Went there on a weekday and there weren't many people. My children had a great time and there is even a kids area with a few toys and games. Paid 12dollars for kids and 20 for adults as entrance fee. Highly recommended!

Great collection of vintage steam locomotives! The staff were very friendly and helping. The building was impressively built and was nicely warm. The history and information about the engines and history of the B&O Railroad was very clear and in-depth. The way to get there and the surrounding area was a tad sketchy however, but inside the Museum is very safe. Would recommend to any railroad fanatic!

The museum is very nice. They have about 3 trains you can get on to see the inside. They also have a 25 min train ride that Unfortunately we missed. It’s one at 11am and 1pm. Definitely going back for this train ride.

Been here a few times, and there’s always something new to explore. The most recent time was for their holiday “polar express” train ride, which was loads of fun. Train enthusiasts of all ages will certainly get a kick out of it, and the museum should appeal to those with an interest in railroads and the role of Baltimore in that storied history. The amazing display of well-kept, actual locomotives and passenger cars from all eras is a sincere treat, particularly in the roundhouse. The staff were friendly. Anyone passing through Baltimore should have a go!

The B and O Railroad Museum, B standing for Baltimore and O for Ohio which I didn't know until I visited, was a fun little experience I was glad to have! The Museum is MASSIVE in scale and size! Clean, easy to move around in and filled with awesome relics and Exhibits, The Museum grounds just on that alone was a ton of fun! The relics in question were well preserved, varied in scope and just neat overall with the highlight DEFINITELY being the actual trains inside and outside the building! The people working there are pretty nice and patient too, good folks if you ask me, no problems there! The Souvenir shop was nice too, though the prices are a little steep, not counting the admission price! Highly recommended, give the B and O Museum a chance if you're in the area, it's worth it! Pictures and videos are of the inside and outside of the Museum, displays and Exhibits, and things I got from there!

A really important museum to visit in Baltimore. Fantastic exhibits and often refreshed. A historic landmark worth visiting. Attending events here is even better. I've done rides with Thomas and non-profit galas. Great at hosting, well organized. Great spaces inside and out. A planned renovation is going to move their entrance into pig town, ample parking and mass transit nearby. If you haven't been here you're missing out. Visit it.

Lots of fun for kids! We came here with my young kids and my in laws. The historical information was interesting for the older family members, and there was plenty of activities to keep the kids occupied. They had several wooden table trains to play with, books to read, outdoor playground and model train with buttons to push. The staff were all friendly and helpful! The museum is clean and well maintained, and was nicely decorated for the holidays. I would give another star but the price is a little steep, I think the train ride should at least be included.

We have a pretty good train museum in St. Louis, but this one was so much better. The amount of cars and trains you can go through was the best part. The round house is not something have in St. Louis. The display trains were unique and the history information attached to the trains really explained what they were. This museum is kid friendly, and they even have an outdoor play area for them.

We enjoyed visiting the B&O museum. We went during a weekend event with a Thomas the train. The kids were able to ride on a train and there were staffers on each car to engage the kids with games and fun activities. It probably lasted for 10 minutes or so but for some kids that was their first train ride. The other parts of the museum were great as well. There is a lot to see and the kids are fascinated with trains and the various parts of the trains. Definitely a great place for younger and older kids.

This museum is great. I love all the mini exhibits and trains everywhere. The information was great. I love the open layout. The only frustrating aspect was that we arrived early to ride the train. However, upon arrival, we were told there were no train rides for several weeks. I wish this information was provided on the website. I did look on the website and it said train rides were available. It was very disappointing.

We loved the exhibits. Wonderful place to visit with children. You can actually see the engines from various time periods. You can also get inside some train cars or spend some time in the repair shop. Highly recommend.

i just learned that the Baltimore and Ohio railroad 🚞 was the first public, commercial railroad in America! now, i know how johns hopkins had enough $$$ to create the johns hopkins university and hospital! anywho, the museum is definitely worth a visit! i even became a member! the trains and their histories are wonderful. i can’t wait until they release the new exhibit about the ties between the train and the underground railroad.

Fascinating display. Two hours went by and there was so much more to see. Check out the model room, the engine that carried President Lincoln (not a replica) and definitely the mighty Allegheny.

We went there for the Polar Express. It was an experience that was fun. We will be going back next year. We had hot chocolate and a sugar cookie. Singing and dancing. Santa showed up and gave us silver bells and we had our golden tickets punched for the train ride.

This is a review of the Polar Express experience. We bought silver quad tickets for a family of five (toddler under 2 was free) and it was worth it. Bronze ticket holders had to wait a lot longer to embark and had the worst view of the show. They did a good job with organization and people movement as it was a lot of people. The actors were all good. The ride was just long enough. The roundhouse was beautifully decorated. Where it could have been better was the sheer volume of people and the resulting waiting around at the entrance, once on the train, and then to enter Santa's workshop (roundhouse). The Santa on our car was grumpy. The adults heard him talking out of character with the staff on our car. He was not happy to take photos with each family. The Santa for photos at the workshop was so different looking than the one in our car, less round, so we skipped that paid extra. The hobo character was a little too scary, yelling loudly, but I'm not a fan of that part of the movie, which wasn't part of the original storybook anyway. The hot chocolate and cookies were not so yummy. Eat before coming because the concessions offerings were meh. My four-year-old and toddler enjoyed it the most; my six-year-old, not so much. Glad we went? Yes. The museum in itself is lovely, even though the location in this part of town is downright scary.

We took our son on the Polar Express ride. In all honesty that part was a bit of a let down but we did get to go into the museum afterwards and it was fantastic! If you're a rail fan in any way you'll really enjoy this place. There was a rail car outside the museum that had a roughly 30' long ho scale model train set, definitely worth checking out.

My first visit and I enjoyed myself. There was plenty of parking. I like that there was a place for my grandbabies to take a break and play. We didn't visit the Cafe so I don't know how that was. But it was a good visit.

Really nice place for kids. There are more than 100 trains in show room and yard. Some of them you can go inside and explore. They even have a 1 mile train ride experience tour. We have a wonderful afternoon. Easy parking and there is a cafe in the museum.

When I visited, I was early and had to kill 45 minutes before opening. Luckily there is enough to look at outside the building to pass that time. Not personally relevant to me, but the inclusive restrooms were cool to see. The staff members were nice as well.

This is an amazing train museum. They have many historic trains. They also have signs that give great information. There are museum staff that walk around the museum that can answer questions. The old trains inside of the museum are beautifully restored. They also have many trains outside. I highly recommend for any train lover.

One of the best places to go visit if you're a railfan. So nice having a railroad museum essentially in my own backyard. Been going there for 15 years at least, and they always have something new. The only thing I dislike about them is their silly princess event, but hey, gotta please the kids somehow!

This is a really fun museum and worth a stop if you're in the Baltimore area. Its very family friendly but adult train enthusiasts will find lots to enjoy as well. They should probably do something about the asbestos escaping in the parking lot though.

Really great museum for kids and adults. By far the best train museum I've been to. Lots of trains to walk on to and check out. Great exhibits. A few kids rides and the cafe is well run with high quality options.

A lot can be said when you the kids are having fun at a museum. 😱. And my kids did and want to return in the spring so we can ride the train. We came on discount day and was able to stack discounts so my family 7 was able to get in for $33. There is soooo much information and several trips are needed to acquire the information. My experience with the staff was pleasant. We ate outside and parking was available. I am not fond of the gender neutral public bathrooms is my only dislike.

  • 4/5 jaaz182 1 year ago on Google
Static displays of collection are very good; some very nicely preserved steam locomotives, occasionally, special visits by operational heritage units. I would have to say tho, the $30 Thomas day excursion other than being worthwhile as a donation to the museum, is perhaps better spent on a regular train ride on Marc train.

  • 5/5 David S. 7 months ago on Google
I went here with my 3 yo and they had a great time. They love cars, trains, and anything vehicles. There were so many trains that we didn't even see them all. The round house was full, and the have 3 platforms. We did the 1 mile train ride on their ~1980's MARC passenger train. Totally worth it. The brochure also says you can ride with the engineer, but we didn't do that. Some of the rides also stop at the police horse stable with was fun too. Plenty to see and do!

Found this by chance. A fantastic hidden gem!! From precursors to the train, to the latest rail technology. Well researched historical context. A number have partially open cars with period details, such as China, that show and tell what it was like to travel through the ages! Kids of all agesand history buffs will love it!

  • 5/5 Jennifer N. 10 months ago on Google
My 15 year old son is an AVID rail enthusiast. For him, he loved being able to get up close and personal with the engines. Sometimes it's difficult for me to connect with him as enthusiasticly. This museum bridged the gap because they included history on how the railroads impacted our current daily life! It was diverse enough to appeal to the both of us! The amount of diversity is WELL WORTH the ticket price!

  • 5/5 Deborah G. 1 year ago on Google
Any train enthusiast will enjoy the opportunity to see so. many. actual. trains. up close and in person! Expecting a more typical "exhibits and scale models" museum, I was wowed by all the actual train cars from engine to caboose and everything in between... a smaller "scale model" portion, the real stars of the show are in the parking lot, back yard, and the impressive round house. We all enjoyed, from ages 3 through 45, and planned the two hours before it closed, but could have used two more. Definitely would like to go back!
