Neat, free, tiny little railroad museum operated by very passionate and friendly people. Large, slightly interactive train setup taking up about half of the floorspace and is definitely the highlight. My 3 year old was running circles around it trying to see everything. There are trains up along the ceiling doing laps, small exhibits in all the corners. It's probably a 45 minute visit to see everything, but ok if you don't due to short attention spans. We loved our brief visit. Only suggestion I have is to add a step rail for the younger folk. Those most interested are probably least likely to be able to see. There is a 1/8th scale track outside that is available for roughly 20 minute rides down a 1.5 mile route just off the water. My wife and 3 year old took a trip and apparently the kid was THRILLED the whole time. Super reasonable at $5 for an adult, which includes up to 2 kids (as they have to sit with the adult). Very cool experience and glad we made the trip.

Went during spring break. was a good museum. not anything too indulgent but, if even remotely into trains I say you stop by. Though i probably wouldn’t go again unless I had a reason to.

The museum is small but it’s very inexpensive. It’s only $5 dollars for adults and kids above 5 years old. Under five years old is free. The price includes a 15 minute ride on a mini train around the park. The museum is a part of the lakes park which offers many outdoor activities like walking, water bicycling, bike riding, wildlife viewing, picking, barbecuing, playing on the playgrounds, etc. This is why I gave it a five star rating because it one of the nicest parks I have ever been to. The railroad museum has different operating hours than the park. The park closes at dusk.

Ok, like, wowie wow! I loved this place! The indoor museum is nice with its train going around the ceiling and a modest set of displays and running model trains, but the actual train ride is great! You can tell the volunteers who work here put significant time and love into this place. The train ride (on a mini train just big enough for you to barely sit on) takes you around the park to see little towns reminiscent of Southwest Florida's past. There's also a playground out front that the kids really liked. Something else of interest was the train library that was in a side room. So many books to choose from (including a few I had at home which was neat). I would definitely visit this place if you are a model train enthusiast.

Very neat little place! Free, with a pay ride on a small "train" ($5)! Awesome for train-loving kids, (and adults too)! Small but good still.

The Railroad Museum of South Florida is a must-visit for anyone who loves trains or is fascinated by history. The museum is housed in a beautifully restored train station and features a collection of historic trains and railway memorabilia. The exhibits are well curated and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. One of the highlights of the museum is the collection of antique trains, including a beautifully restored steam locomotive from the 1940s. The trains are displayed with accompanying information about their history, making the exhibits both visually stunning and educational. The museum also features a variety of railway artifacts, including historic tickets, tools, and photographs, which help to bring the history of the railway to life. In addition to the exhibits, the museum offers a variety of activities and events for visitors of all ages. There are train rides available, which provide a unique and immersive experience. The museum also hosts events such as live music and educational presentations, making it a great place to spend a day with the family. The Railroad Museum of South Florida is also a great resource for local history. The museum's archives contain a wealth of information about the history of the railway in the area, and the staff is always happy to assist with research requests. We spend a good time in the train ride and the museum. The tickets at the time of this review was 6 dollars per person, kids smaller than 5 years ride free. The crismas time is beautiful because they add a lot of decoration and lighting and the train ride gets very beautiful and entertaining for kids. I’m going few times per year, but I’m looking forward to go more often. I’m highly recommended, specially if you have small kids.

This is our second year visiting the train station and I think us as adults were just as excited as our daughter to take the train ride again. The conductor's are so Knowledgeable and funny. We come to FMB yearly and I'm sure we will never miss an opportunity to come to Lakeside park, visit the museum and take a train ride!

Sadly the only photo I took was of this sweet bear. But I honestly think I'm glad I didn't take more pictures and just spent the time enjoying the little museum. The staff was friendly and very helpful and the train ride was SO cute. It's aimed to children but a lot of adults were also riding it so don't feel awkward going for a little (one mile long) ride around the park, it's relaxing and so cute!

Such a cool place for kids! We rode the train and can't wait to do it again. The kids loved all the little town displays and even the museum was fun to see the train gardens. Awesome!

Museum is amazing. Great time for the kids. The train ride is very relaxing. The ride is themed by season. Really love it during Christmas!

  • 5/5 Cj K. 2 years ago on Google
This place is awesome and the mini train is a hit with all the kids. They have a real sized train engine parked right outside of the kids park, very cool to take a close look at it and see the real size of the equipment (trains are huge and powerful machines!) The kids love the mini train ride above all. During the holidays they decorate the track and the ride is themed to the holiday. Fun family event and a must try at least once. All aboard!

  • 4/5 Susan C. 2 years ago on Google
We were pleasantly surprised with this little train. If you go to Lakes Park you have got to take the few minutes and a couple of dollars and take your children on this ride! The little villages , the scarecrows and even the alligator in the big lake were a lot of fun to look at.

  • 4/5 Beth S. 1 year ago on Google
The train was awesome for my almost 3 year old. It was hotter than hot when we went but the moving train cooled you off a bit. You can tell someone put a lot of thought into the little buildings and such. I've heard this gets busy and our train was full, but we had no probs getting g tickets. $5 per adult. My kid was free. I imagine for the holidays it's crazy and you'd want to get tickets ahead.

  • 5/5 Charles B. 1 year ago on Google
Super cute, great for our three young kids. I'm a bit sensitive to exhaust but that was only distraction. Hopefully someday they can swap their locamotive for an electric like the Edison one shown in the museum. The displays along the ride are adorable.

  • 5/5 Ashley S. 2 years ago on Google
Very friendly and informative staff. Train ride is cute! Only "negative" thing I'd say is I wish the museum was bigger! Donate so they can add more! Probably the best thing we did on our trip.

Wooohooo this place was amazing, higley reccommend this place, it was so cool and alot of fun. Perfect for the family or even just a break. Its inside the park and what a enjoyment this was. I will return here every time I go back to Florida. The little trains that you ride on amd the museum that they have where you can use a lil train simulator its so neat and a learning experience as well. We went down here for vacation to a home we own in the cape and this will be a place I take them every time and will never get old. They drop you off at the end of the ride at a snack shop which is perfect. And the ride is like $3 its such a smart idea, you will not regret this decision.

Just beautiful and so much to see and do! A huge train that once travel the East Coast a train museum Surrey bike rides and little boat rides in the lake. A nice gift shop and snack bar. Beautiful picnicking area bicycling and walking and a lovely little train ride throughout the grounds. The whole family will love it!

  • 5/5 Nancy S. 4 years ago on Google
That was really fun! The train ride is better than expected, and the museum is full of cool train stuff. There's even a snack bar to eat lunch at. I wish we had this park near me!

  • 4/5 Patrick L. 4 years ago on Google
Great place for kids and yes, I enjoyed the train ride too. I found it relaxing. But this a great place to learn more about trains and experience the train.

  • 2/5 Vicki B. 3 years ago on Google
Right now the museum is closed but you can see a some of it thru thewindow. my boys love going to see the big train outside (they are 2) and walking along the little train tracks thru the park. They also like the little village they have along the tracks. Had hoped it would of opened this year but due to covid guess it's not happening. Will change my review once it opens and we can check it out more.

This train museum is located within Lakes Park. There is also a large outdoor playscape for kids that is train themed. There is a mini train ride around the park for touring purposes as well as surreys and kyacks to rent. A food stand is located close to parking lot 3 near the bridge's entrance. Highly recommend.

👍👍 Went with a group of 4 and we really enjoyed our time. We all had different tastings (signature reds, signature whites, and the larger for-2 tasting) and no one had a wine they didn’t enjoy. We split a bottle of signature dry Pinot at the end and loved it as well. We bought a couple of bottles to go...
