No trip to Kona is complete without a walk around the marketplace. In the general area there are stores restaurants historic sites and a small beach. Unfortunately I believe a lot of the small stores went out of business during the pandemic. Fortunately many of the restaurants have remained intact. Hopefully the popularity of open air dining Help to preserve them.

Interesting to walk around, but really at its core, a giant tourist trap. Very few stores selling anything original. So much overpriced junk. Cool scenery and shave ice .

love this place. Stores, restaurants and historic sites. the walk down to Ali'i Drive has always been peaceful. I go to Kona Inn then walk along the seawall, step in some sand, feel the ocean spray, an experience that I would do over and over again. I stop at Sams Hideaway and grab a drink. They validate for parking. Then Big Island Grill for dinner! Can't go wrong.... so much to do and see.

Really have to go each shop before you buy. Find the same stuff for way better offers. Got hat 25$ and found it 5 stores down for 8.99$

We parked our car in their lot and there was no sign saying to pay for parking when we entered from the street. We didn’t notice a pay station. It really wasn’t clearly marked. When we came back to our car 2 hours later there was a 57.50 parking ticket on our windshield. This is an absolute rip off. I wouldn’t have minded a 25.00 parking ticket but 56.00 plus 1.00 handling fee is outrageous. Especially when all the other parking lots in the area where we’ve parked before have been free parking. You would think they would provide free parking for their customers.

Nice walk near the water if you have a few leisurely hours to blow. Some great local shops and restaurants/bars at the marketplace as well as along the strip.
