Maui Mountain Cruisers

Tour operator Sightseeing tour agency Bicycle rental service

😠 Use another company! For the price you are paying you would expect better tour vans, bikes and guides. Bikes- Old cruiser bikes that should not be meant for fast downhills. The breaks squeaky and not very good. I noticed the bikes in front of me had wobbly tires. My handlebars were not align proper... People often mention great, ride, tour, experience, bikes, bike, company, sunrise,

Use another company! For the price you are paying you would expect better tour vans, bikes and guides. Bikes- Old cruiser bikes that should not be meant for fast downhills. The breaks squeaky and not very good. I noticed the bikes in front of me had wobbly tires. My handlebars were not align properly. I can continue... Guide- Defensive and unorganized. He needed to group people better. For example; people with experience, mid experience and no experience. I was behind a scare little kid who had no business on a bike. I had to tell the kid not to look down when he was cornering. The guide should at least pointed out some basic skills about cornering and downhills. He just wanted to get us down as fast as possible. Vans- Not very maintain, missing air vents and not clean. Overall the experience was not great for $140 a person.

No doubt a beautiful trip. My son and I made the best of it. Our first trip to Maui together, we get early (2AM) together, experience the sunrise together, but have to ride down the mountain separately. They split us into 2 vans just after watching the sunrise. My son was in the first van. So, they had already departed by the time we made it back down to the trailers. Turns out, my son asked to switch groups so we can ride together, the guide refused. I laughed at the guide when he told me to come take a photo with the bikes just above the switchbacks. I said "Not Without my Son". Choose your rides carefully if you cherish being with your family. Maui Mountain Cruisers certainly didn't care. If you are curious, our booking agent worked really hard to get 1/4 of our money back. I appreciated the effort by Paul @ Boss Frogs.

This tour is a total ripoff! I regret not reading these reviews before letting our concierge booking this trip. I don't even know where to start! From the very beginning the driver was very unpleasant. I know 3am is early start for everyone, but how hard it is to introduce yourself to the customers and shake someones hand when you first meet them? After picking up everyone the driver took us to their place of business, I don't even know how to call that place. It was a shed! They stated morning snack will be provided, but all we got was a cheap granola bar (only two were left by the time we got there) and the worst kind of Keurig coffee. No water whatsoever. After that they took us on the top of the volcano (driving like maniacs), without any additional information provided, and that was a good opportunity to educate us on the volcano and the national park. They gave us stinky jackets and no water provided yet. Watching the sunrise was a nice experience. A native Hawaiian was singing some kind of their traditional song, but still don't know what it was because no one said a word about it, and they had a great opportunity to do so driving down the volcano to the place where our bikes were. When they started taking the bikes out I thought they were joking and that there was some kind of hidden camera filming us. Those things were falling apart, and were so unsafe and uncomfortable! And the helmets and gloves were disgustingly dirty. We were told we are going to be riding 26 miles averaging 20mph. We rode for 17 miles averaging 16mph according to my Garmin watch. I can understand that because the rain started drizzling, and our tour guide does not like to get wet. It's 9 am and no water provided yet. They took us to Makawoo, which is a cute cowboy city where we had a breakfast that we had to pay for. Overall, this is the only activity on Maui we regret doing, and we feel like we were scammed. This company pretty much provided (unsafe) transportation without providing any additional value. We did not learn anything new nor got a decent bike ride. And I was dehydrated by the time everything was finally done.

The view was great, otherwise this was a rough experience. Here are all the bad/weird things we experienced. 1. No one checked us in, we just got told to hop in. 2. The check engine light was on in the van. 3. We didn't get any of the included items like backpacks, gloves, or granola bars. 4. They told us we should check to make sure the brakes worked. My husband actually had to fix mine because it didn't. 5. The bikes are old, rusty, and creaky. 6. They didn't give any real instructions and their directions back were not great. 7. I got a flat tire and called to get picked up... no one came. After an hour of waiting I started walking. Eventually my husband rode back to the place and brought our car back to me. We had to take the bike back ourselves and no one was there. If you're looking for a cool view, this is great! However, you could drive yourself up to the National Park or take another tour. Our driver, Llu was very nice though.

My husband and I went on the sunrise tour on Haleakala while on our honeymoon. We enjoyed seeing the sunrise on Haleakala sunrise. They were clear on all our safety measures, and they did a great job at keeping us safe. The bike ride was good we just wished we could've stopped more along the way to see some of the sights. I kind of felt like we were being rushed down the volcano to get to our end point and weren't able to slow down and take it all in.

I have been to Maui a few times I find it better to book directly with the company rather than with an agent.

Mike was nice but forgot a coat and a helmet for me!! I was the only on on the tour so I just went down the mountain by myself. The bike was old but had good brakes and handle bars that sat up so you weren’t leaning down so far. The seat was nice and wide. I also had to get off an walk it up one hill because it doesn’t have gears and no tension to peddle. I didn’t read the reviews before I booked it but over all if you just want a bike to ride down the mountain he can provide. Park does not allow bike companies inside for sunrise.

We went on the mid day tour with the guides that were born and raised in Hawaii. It was an awesome experience down the mountain with a stop in a old cowboy town for lunch. The views were very pretty and the ride was fun! The guides were knowledgeable about the history of the area. I recommend using this company!

This was my first experience doing a bike ride down the mountain! The ride was fantastic, the guides were informative about the island and I enjoyed the stop for lunch! Unfortunately, the ride back to our hotel was a nightmare. The driver was hauling butt, going 70+ MPH. The vans were a little rundown...no AC vents worked in the back, all check engine lights were on, etc. I may choose another company in the future.

Kevin and John do a great tour with some special touches. Having said that, it's important to note that this tour does not go to the summit. They bring you to a lookout point about 9 miles down from the summit to start the bike ride. The views are still beautiful and it did not feel as bone chilling cold as it did when we went to summit our last trip. The bikes and helmets and jackets were adequate, not great. There was talk of a (non-hosted) breakfast stop but did not happen. For the money, Mountainriders seems like a better deal. They go to the summit with better equipment and gear for about $35 less per person if you book online, and they include pickup at your hotel/resort. Again, Kevin does a great job, but I think this tour is overpriced vis-a-vis the competition.

Unsafe bicycles, no training and poor attitude of the owner. Such a disappointment. I had biked with this company twice before in the last 23 years with a much better and safer experience. My husband was new to this and the owner knew that. The helmets were not sanitized and this is during the pandemic. There was no direction or instruction. The brakes were worn out. Owner tightened handlebars by HAND and they continued to come loose. He has not kept up with technology so there is no Venmo or other cashless forms of payment processing besides his booking site…which he forgot his password. We were the only 2 on the tour. No guide running in front or back, just the owner in the van for part of the way down. We could only go up to 6000 feet vs the 10,000 as before. I think his business is going under. He’ll blame it on the competition but we clearly saw everything that was in HIS control was what was lacking in his company. Sad to see since he was first to start this type of business and I was so excited for my husband to have an incredible experience like I had in 1999 and 2004. I’m sure we rode the same bikes we rode back then. Makes me sad.

Our family of six had a great ride with Maui Mountain Cruisers! From booking to check-in and riding down the volcano everything was smooth. They did a great job of explaining what the ride would be like to put my kids at ease. We really enjoyed the history shared with us, We’d definitely use them in the future.

👍👍 Did the 8:45am self guided bike tour. Guides were super kind and informative. Gear was top quality. We had a pretty clear morning and it was beautiful. I’d recommend this tour company if you’re looking to do the self guide. I’d also recommend doing it on Sunday, way less traffic (although less of th...
