Hubbies stumbled on this incredible gem looking for a bar while us girls shopped and were not disappointed! Not only is the environment lively and energetic but friendly too. The owner Bailei (sorry if I spelled it wrong) has energy I want to bottle and take home with me. Evening bartender Dani was quick and observant ;-). Both are master of the art of conversation. The locals love this place and I loved learning all about being "rich, fun, & young." Andy you were a lifesaver. If you are in downtown Kona, definitely hit this bar and get a feeling of being home. 💜💜

Not the most inviting place. I’m all about dive bars and local spots, but this place gave the vibes like you don’t belong here. Interesting characters at the bar for sure. But for a grimy place, for someone to be short and a little stuck up towards you, it’s not worth stopping by. Drinks definitely are not great either, go elsewhere. Not worth dealing with BS people being short with you.

I was dying to get off of the main tourist strip, and a quick search for "cocktails" brought me to Sam's. This is not the place for cocktails; it's not even a place for a good beer. The liquor and beer selections are awful, and the Old Fashioned was probably the worst I've ever had. However! This is a true local dive bar, and the locals are all drinking bottled domestics for a reason. Pricing is really good for Hawaii. The staff and customers all made me feel welcome here. It was slow on a Thursday and I was about to leave, when karaoke started and I decided to have one more. Eight hours later, I stumbled my way back to my hotel without a voice. I met a ton of people, locals and tourists, and had a great time. (It's two weeks later, and I still haven't had another drink.) A great hidden gem, you'll know if it's for you once you walk in and have a beer.

Don’t miss this hidden gem. Had the best night of my life here. Derek was an amazing bartender and the karaoke is AWESOME. Staff are kind and friendly, drinks are great and just a cool place overall.

An excellent local dive bar. The regular morning-afternoon bartender, D'Marie, is personable, funny, and friendly, and very good at her job. We visited Kona and ended up stopping by multiple times during our trip due to not only the prices, but the fun atmosphere and personnel. D'Marie's homemade bloody mary mix is also legitimately the best one I've had.

D'MARIE was a wonderful bar tender and treated us amazingly. Drinks were great and reasonably priced. This is more of a locals bar but that's my favorite kind of bar.

We went here last night! We had so much 😊 FUN! Great for kareoke! Small audience! No books. Dollar per song. You have to know the song you want to sing. Atmosphere was definitely lively😸. Drinks were good. You have to go up to the bar to order. No waiters/waitresses. Parking: make sure to secure vehicles. Don't leave valuables in your car. 🤗👍💗💗💗💗

The bartender was super nice. The vibe is very relaxed and chill. It is like hanging at a friend's place. Note: you have to download an app and purchase songs for karaoke only that way. The drinks were affordable and very good. There are limited food options. They even let me charge my phone and no one bothered it! Wish I could upload my videos!!!!! It was a blast.

Fair prices, nice people. What else do you want from a bar? Pretty busy on a Sunday, good crowd - I’m Hilo side usually, so don’t know what causes the bell to be rang, but it rang and I got a free beer. 🤙🏽 [edit] sit near the entrance, it’s like a soap opera after a few hours

A red bull, three drinks, and two cocktails and our bill somehow only came out to thirty something, either we were undercharged or it was way cheaper than I expected. Cocktails were great, too, and I never waited more than a couple of minutes to have an order taken, bartender was really good. Karaoke was a lot of fun-there is a charge but it's only a buck a song, and they use kerafun, so it's a good selection. Started to get crowded around nine thirty or so, so go before then if you don't wanna stand, people here were really friendly and open, so even when it was crowded it didn't feel overbearing.

We stopped in here to sing a couple songs, grab a drink. Small place, heart of Kona, and we had a Tom of fun!

Karaoke was so awesome here! The $1 per song charge was well worth it (make sure to bring cash, preferably $1s). They use Karafun for the songs which is great. Affordable and delicious drinks!

We got married and instead of having a big reception we took our party here, which turned out to be the best idea ever! They blocked off half the bar for us and we sang our hearts out for a good 5 hours. Great service, good drinks, hell of a good time.

Friendly local bar. Bring in your RC sandwich and have a few drinks! Get your parking validated. Super helpful and friendly staff. Definitely recommend.

Walked in after finding the only bar open on all of Alli Drive. Only 3 ppl in the bar. Waited patiently. Ooh so patiently as the bar tender talk s to one single male. 10 min. Later finally get noticed. Completely on his time not mine. And I am a mother of 6. Have a babysitter one night to go out. One hr left till closing. Finally got out.. upsetting for sure

A great local bar that's been around since the 70s. Awesome karaoke and good times. Friendly staff. Let your hair down and enjoy the cheapest drinking in town. Sam's is open til the late night hours. Come here for a wonderful time !!

Really great crowd. My second day on the island and I was made to feel very welcome. Very warm place. Highly recommended! Derek is an amazing host.

A cute, quiet little bar tucked away off the tourist ladened Ali'i, just across the street from The Kona Inn Plaza The prices are great, the drinks are right on and if you want to duck out, steal away, Sam's Hideaway is a real classic joint.

Sam’s Hideaway is a homey local tavern with a very tasty Bloody Mary and even tastier prices. It’s off of the main strip, but this is where one goes to actually meet new friends and learn of new experiences. This is the place i would go to learn of local Kona history and meet the local celebrities. 😄

Day 1: Great drinks, nice folks, great bartender (Alora). Day 2: Greg was awesome, too! He also poured great drinks. Great music as well. More good folks! Other bartenders came in to hang - a real good sign. Day 3: Chris was awesome. We perfected the Mai Tai strength for my wife, so she's not knocked out after 1. 😂 Learn from the locals and buy an amazing sandwich nextdoor! And last comment... $1 per song karaoke seems nuts. Karaoke pays for itself in drinks and people...
