My parents love their burgers here, so we had to try it on our most recent visit. We got: - Macnut Pesto Goat Cheeseburger with Macaroni Salad - Hot Mess Kalua Pork Sandwich with Pineapple Coleslaw I loved both sandwiches. Between the two, the Hot Mess Kalua Pork was my favorite. I loved how saucy it was. The burger was very juicy. I forgot to ask for it medium rare so I was pleasantly surprised that it was cooked medium. I wanted a sauce on it though. The coleslaw was pretty good, but the macaroni salad was very bland. I wouldn't get that again. I sampled my dad's fries and those were my favorite of the three. There were many other items here I wanted to try and I definitely want to come back on my next trip.

If you want a great burger and fries, this is your place. The sign says yelp voted 8th best burger in the US, I'd put it higher. Friendly outgoing staff too. If you go around lunch and supper time be prepared to wait as it gets busy.

The signs on the street claim the 8th best cheeseburger in the U.S. The burger I had was FAR BETTER than that! I got the Roasted Poblano Pepperjack cheeseburger with grass-fed beef and made it a double. I added a side salad with ranch. The burger was amazing! The cook and flavor of the beef was nothing short of incredible. The burger was juicy and the flavors paired perfectly! The side salad was also quite tasty. The portions of meat were GENEROUS! IF I could have eaten another, I would have! If you're in Kona, stop in and try a burger, you will NOT regret it!

A burger joint that lives up to the hype. We were recommended by a travel agent at one of the Body Glove booths to come here for the best burgers. When we saw audacious signage we were ready for a letdown that never came! We tried a few different burgers and sandwiches to get a variety. The goat cheese on one burger was so creamy and the patty was truly juicy! The pork sandwich was tender and juicy. It is huge and fun for kids to eat. It is messy which is what kids love! The brewed tea is flavourful and perfect for washout down the amazing food. The seasoned fries are an excellent compliment yo the burgers. The coleslaw with pineapple was a unique Hawaiian treat. The decor is fun and sets the tone for lively conversations and laughs. I definitely recommend this burger restaurant. It is way better than the chain restaurants and other restaurants with burgers.

This is a great place tucked away in a not so easy pocket of shops downtown. Well worth the effort. Local beef is currently $1.29 extra, but worth it. Handcut fries were spot on. (Don't expect 5 Guys portions for the fries though.) Burger was cooked to medium, not overcooked. Onion rings were good, but a little "well done" for my taste. All in all a great spot for a good burger and fries. I like that they try to source ingredients locally and the staff seemed to be on top of things.

The burgers and fries were so good!! 10/10. The volcano burger was amazing, the flavors were delicious and it was actually spicy! And the BBQ burger was super good as well. We upgraded to the local grass fed beef and the flavor of the meat and char were perfect.

Its so nice to get a burger where they actually season it before cooking. So many places could be so much better if you just add some salt and pepper to the beef prior to cooking. Burgers were cooked to a nice medium rare. I had the roasted poblano peppercheese burger. Outstanding. Grab extra napkins or better yet a towel. You'll need it. So much juice and flavor. Been a long time since I've had a burger this good eating out. Couldn't put it down. Wife had the volcano burger. Nice heat. Slow burn but not so much it blows out your palate. The mac salad isn't the typical Hawaiian mac we're used to but wasn't bad. Definitely will be back to this place. Staff were exceptionally friendly too.

Wow, did not disappoint. It's easy to find a joint that has a good burger or good fries, but hard to find a joint that delivers on both at the same time. My husband and I split the fries and onion rings... delicious. I stuck with a good ole plain cheeseburger and he had a Volcano burger. The kids had the chicken...all the trays were left empty. A great little local spot.

First thing, the staff was nice. Second thing, the salad looked good, but the balsamic vinaigrette had no flavor, like they forgot the balsamic. I had the Poblano burger, was ok, the fries were nothing special & the volcano sauce, it sounded great, but tasted just ok. Sorry.

The food was ok. The claim is that the burgers are top 10 in the nation. I don't think so. Maybe they were, but not anymore. The fries were good 👍🏾... everything else was average at best.

This was a great place to eat. The food tasted amazing (definitely certified ono aka delicious) and very filling. The staff was friendly and the service was relatively quick. All of the ingredients were fresh. It was very close to the ocean and local shops, and there was a bathroom inside (which was an extra bonus if you've been out and about). I would definitely recommend it to others!

We have been in Kona for 8 days now looking for the best fresh fish tacos, and we found them here at Island Ono Loa Grill. Guten Free as well! Quick and friendly service, great tasting food and outdoor seating straight into the sunset. The pineapple slaw was a special treat as well.

We loved the food here. It was the best loco moco I've ever had. Burgers were grilled over lava rock and tasted wonderful. Each other meal was great as well. Fish tacos were some of the best. We ended up here 3 times in the week visit. Attaching two images: in-store full order of loco moco and then a take out 1/2 order.

One of the best burger places I’ve been to ever. I had the pesto burger, which is simply fantastic. I upgraded to the grass fed beef, because I had passed that farm earlier in the day. It was done perfectly. The burger was so juicy and thick. The fries are amazing. They are the perfect size, and are dark brown in color. Very crispy. 10/10 place o eat.

Hamburgers have amazing flavor just in the patties themselves. Got the Poblano Burger which was absolutely delicious. Also got the Ono Loa Loco Plate... So much food! My wife and I could've shared just the Loco Plate. Definitely recommend any burger or plate. Prices are not too bad either. Around $14-$17 for the burgers, The Ona Loa Loco Plate was $20. If you're craving a burger on the Big Island, I definitely recommend stopping here!

Was pretty excited to try this place out. Amazing reviews and food looked amazing. We ordered a spicy fried chicken sandwich, Ono loa Loco, and kalua pork Loco moco. I hope it's a new chef or something but most of it was incredible over seasoned and way too salty. No one finished their dish. The chicken sandwich when ordering online has options for adding "extra" veggies or having "no" pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and so on with no option for regular. The description does say chicken, aioli, mayo, pickels, only but a bit confusing if you're just looking for a regular amout of lettuce, onions, and pickles. The real killer was the amount of salt. The fries were heavy on the garlic salt which can be whatever but the chicken tasted like it fell into a bucket of salt. The Ono loa Loco looked amazing but when you got to the burger it was so overpowering with salt I couldn't taste any other seasoning. After a few bites I couldn't stomach any more. The Mac salad was pretty good but a little plain. That or my taste buds were blown out from the patty. The pork had patches of crazy salt amounts as well. Some bites were good and juicy, great pork and others were like eating a spoonful of table salt. Asked for extra ranch for onion rings and fries and even paid the 99 cents for "extra" ranch and got one small plastic cup. Again if it doesn't come with anything can you really call it extra? We wrote in the notes and we're more than will to pay for it as we added "extra" but it just wasn't there. When I picked up the order I even mentioned it and she picked up the one cup and showed me so I assumed the others were in the containers. On a positive note they were great with time expectations and having things, regardless of quality, ready when they said they would.

Okay, we ate there once for takeaway and ended up going back 3 times! Their Loco Moco with the chargrilled burger takes it over the top!! Sooo good! And the chopped green onions on top, perfect!! The MacNut Pesto Goat cheese burger was incredible! Eat it as it comes! The Applewood Smoked bacon cheeseburger was excellent as well! The Paniolo BBQ cheeseburger, with onion rings on the burger, sooooo good! Their onion rings by themselves were great as well. We really liked this place!!

The food arrived hot and was heavenly in every bite. Sad that one of my yolk popped along the way, but nonetheless a great dish! The onion rings were still super crunchy and hot when I received my delivery.

Location is set back from the road in the back of a waterfront strip mall. Ambience is a basic burger joint with both indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoors has a slightly distant ocean view with a few umbrella topped tables. Indoors, no AC, but an overhead fan. Burgers and Kailua pork were tasty and as promised, messy! Good fries too- regular and waffle sweet potato. Free soda water from the dispenser or, for purchase, standard dispensed soda pop or bottled sodas from the case. Worth a stop if you are hankering for a burger. We thought the taste was close to the Teddy's Burger joint we frequented that used to be in our hometown.

Burgers are so good! Grab one to go and walk to the park nearby and enjoy the views! Everything about the burger was delicious. The bun was perfect, the burger itself was cooked perfectly, the cheese and bacon and grilled onions. Don’t pass this place by! They’ll make grilled cheese for the kiddos and have pulled pork which is also fantastic! Even the fries were amazingly good!

Really good food for a reasonable price! We would absolutely eat here again. Adding it to the list of favorites. Relatively short wait in line and quickly received our food. I highly recommend getting the local grass-fed beef for $1 more. SO yummy!

Delicious! My fiance got the macadamia nut pesto burger with goat cheese. The burger was perfectly seared and yet moist, the bun soft and pillowy. The fries were seasoned just right, not too much not too little. My Kalua pork plate had amazing melt in your mouth pork, great rice. Definitely recommend this spot.

Pretty good quick option for simple and delicious standard fare. Went last night on a Friday around 730. Parking was tough, but the store was not full. Ordered the spicy chicken which was excellent. Got the kalua pork for the wife and it was also very good. Mac salad was OK, but not recommended. Onion rings and fries were very good. The lava sauce and volcano sauce are both pretty spicy. I liked the volcano better. Our company had a bacon cheeseburger which was said to be a decent burger and the chicken pesto which was also very very good. Highly recommend for a reasonable quick meal.
