Great place to watch the sunset!!! Little tide pools that kids can play in safely. Obviously be aware of rising tides that will increase depth and waves. Not a swimming beach. In my opinion. 1 thing I didn't like was how sketchy the old buildings in the area were. Homeless, etc . Many people watching the sunset every night. But when the sunsets, keep it moving!

Best part is how much parking there is! And pretty cool the parking lot appears to be the old runway. Beach area is nice for lounging but closer to the water it gets rocky and isn’t great for swimming. With water shoes you can wade out a bit but the surf can also be a bit punishing coming over the taller rocks.

Looking for the perfect spot to unwind and bask in the sun? Look no further than this fantastic beach! This beach is a really nice place to kick back and relax on the shore. While the waterline may be a bit rocky and there's sometimes a strong riptide, you can still enjoy some quality beach time. What makes this place even cooler is that it's a recreational area. There are picnic tables nearby so you are able to bring your lunch and just enjoy it at the beach. If you need to plan for a bday party or event, make sure to contact parks and recs so that you can reserve the tables. Overall, this place is peefect is you are looking for peaceful relaxation by the ocean!

Super for tide pools and snorkeling in the shallows. Great for kids who just want to plop in wave-free water up to their waist and look down into the water and see fish. Fun rock-hopping. Not super easy to fully go out and swim, without hiking over a lot of lava rock first. Bring reef shoes.

Awesome spot to just come hang out or eat some food. We came for breakfast after picking up at 808 aloha grindz and watched the ocean for a bit. Super chill location.

Wide open big park with great view. Perfect spot for takeout food. If you don't mind some flies and little birds. They are friendly. ;)

One of the best places to view sunset on the island! Easy access to free parking. Public toilets. Still a few BBQ grills left (not sure I would use them). Pavilions with picnic tables.

Nice place to stop and see the beach. There are pavilions, picnic tables, and outhouses. Beach is sandy along the coast but all black rock in the water. Tons of free parking and also free access.

Lovely gardens and park to walk around. Just over a kilometre loop around the park. So many different flowers, plants and little gardens. Mongoose like animals and stray cats who are fed and looked after by locals. Peaceful place. Beach is also really nice sign lots of tidal pools to look for fish and cool down. Quiet beach with picnic benches and shaded areas to sit. Portaloos as the change rooms seem to have been burnt down or collapsed. Showers and taps available.

There's a nice walking path the beach is okay to hang out on but not friendly for taking a casual dip as there are mostly rocks. You are quite likely to encounter many of the homeless people that reside in this area and the bathrooms are porta potties that are generally not a nice experience. But at least they have a workout area with bars and then running path.

You can see body Surfers with bodyboards, people having a picnic and others just out for a stroll and this idyllic setting where the waves crash over the lava rocks. Also great place to beachcomb as there are so many special unique little fragments corals and other debris on the beach.

Such a gem that we came across by accident. Every bit as lovely as the Botanical gardens and totally free!

I am so happy that I stumbled across this beautiful Park! Absolutely loved the care that was taken for the feral cats and the mongoose :-) It was beautiful to see the care that was given to all the individual garden spots and to be able to lay my blanket down on the lawn, read a book for a while and just relax. I felt safe and supported by the beautiful environment!

A nice quiet beach. Not too many people overall. Some parts are more sandy and some parts are more rocky. You can get some shallower areas if you do not like getting into the deeper water. I would not try and snorkel in the area. Rougher waters and rocky bottom. Plenty of other places nearby you can snorkel at easier.

Nice place to have barbeque or wade in the ponds or take a walk. I go with my pups they love it. The park is kept well. Play ground is quaint kids seem to enjoy. Back in the day the locals would go over night fishing or camping, now the locals gotta get a permit to use these parks. I met some nice homeless people there. Some homeless reasons are high rent, food prices are high,to live in Hawaii now days is outrageous. Overall a nice place. I don't like using portable restrooms there but everything else is nice.

Beautiful beach. It's great for a picnic and beautiful pictures, but you have to be careful not to fall on some of the large slippery rocks. Not great for swimming in my opinion and there are some odd shady characters there in the late evening, so beware.

So happy this old airport continues to offer great recreational areas for all ages. Baseball fields, soccer, swimming pool, hula halau, canoe halau, ample parking. Very nice

Beautiful area to walk in the surf and watch the sunset. It is a little rocky to really swim Herr, but it is a nice place to enjoy the ocean at.

Great beach w picnic tables. With a wonderful view of Kona and a chance to see turtles and spinner dolphins!

Great for collecting small, whole shells. Not much of a place to dive in though. There is a sand beach, but Ricky water. Still a pretty beach, but I prefer oahu beaches
