Our FAVORITE beach!! Where should I begin, the clear water, the sea life, the sand, the surrounding… everything is spectacular! We have traveled to a LOT and my teenage kids were floored at the clarity of the water here! It’s like a swimming pool! You can everything so clear that you don’t even need a mask to see the fish and turtles! Which brings me to the turtles, make sure you go to the rocks at the right side of the beach by the Westin, every time we went we saw turtles there, no need to pay for an excursion to see them and snorkel with them. There is also a very cool little ride pool hidden in the rocks that you MUST go into. Also at this end of the beach there is a beautiful grass area under a tree with shade which is just dreamy to sit under and relax out of the sun. We don’t normally repeat things on vacation but we did visit this beach more than once - it’s repeat worthy and you should not miss it!

Great public beach on the west coast of the big island. Plenty of parking and white sand beach. Bring umbrellas chairs and water! Parking is $10 and entrance is $5 a person. Don’t forgot to be honest and use the kiosk. Have a great time!

Great clean turquoise beach. Super chill, dependent on day, waves can get a bit high. The life guards put signs to warn if dangerous so swim at your own risk, also they announced swimming warning conditions. Towards the entrance at the top of the hill they have covered picnic areas that also have a grill’s and. They also have scattered rinse off showers throughout the beach area, some are not functioning. The bathroom was not clean at all and smelt bad. I would recommend checking this place out, but there are tons of other beautiful beach parks around the area!

Beautiful Sandy beach, it does not have shade where the Sandy part, but there is trees and cover area in the far back from the beach. Get to love the sand here as it’s very soft. Good place to go sunbathing. Family with kids are friendly here. There is a fee for parking and park entrance for non resident. No one check, self paid at the station.

I hate to even post about this beach because it is SO NICE, I don't want anyone else to go here. It is a state park so it cost to park and enter, but it is worth it. This IS the most beautiful beach I have ever been to. It is like an episode of Gilligan's Island. There were not too many people there, especially early, you can sit under the trees ON THE BEACH! The water was warm, and perfectly clear. Lots of fish and every now and then a turtle swimming by or hanging out in the water off shore. B it was a perfect day in Hawaii. Check out these pictures, crazy nice!

This really is an absolutely gem... A bit off the beaten path which makes it the perfect get away from the crowded touristy beaches. Absolutely stunning setting. Waves are incredibly! Beach and facilities are very well maintained. Ample parking. Nice lifeguards. Just checks all the boxes!

One of the best, if not THE best, beach on the Big Island, just 40 minutes north of Kona. Very clean, with life guards, pure white sand with nice amenities to get changed + toilets. There are quite a few outdoor showers too. The water is crystal clear, with just one small rocky patch in the middle to attract a bunch of tropical fish (think snorkeling) and even sea turtles. Went there twice and saw sea turtles both times. Plenty of parking too.

This was by far the BEST beach we found to take our children! Our kids are great swimmers, but had never swam with big waves before. This beach was sandy and didn’t have all the lava rock (which was our main concern with other beaches) that the other beaches had. It was busy but did not feel crowded. Showers and bathrooms were up and running. We spent a full day here ended up going back and spending our last full vacation day here as well. A great place to relax, let the kids play in the waves, swim, and play in the sand. The water is clear blue. There is also a lifeguard on site.

The Best Beach on Big Island! It's in a state park and you have to pay for parking - $10 US per vehicle and then $5 US per passenger with a credit card but totally worth it. Bring a beach umbrella as there is no shade, a cooler of drinks and snacks, a boogie board and beach chairs and you're all set for a day of fun! Park closes at 6pm.

Fantastic, beautiful beach with soft white coral sand. Definitely one of the best public beaches I've ever been to in the United States. Arrive early for guaranteed parking and know that at peak times of the day and season, this beach does get relatively crowded and parking availability can get very scarce. My two teenage boys boogie boarded on the left margin on the beach, never straying far from a group of Lufthansa stewardesses who elected to sunbathe topless. No one wants tanlines anyway, right?

Wonderful beach! Tons of parking, lots of room to spread out. Waves are pretty tame most of the time, no real boogie boarding to be had. Water was off for repairs so no showering off. Lots of portable toilets.

Loved the ease of getting to the actual beach. A lot of other beaches we had to hike to. Parking was $15. We hoped to see dolphins but didn't see any. Big, long Beach with nice soft sand. Good place for swimming and snorkeling! The restrooms were closed, but they did have Porta potty's.

This is a nice sandy beach ⛱️ and stretches for at least a ½ mile without any rocks. It was not that crowded during this visit. There is a lifeguard on duty during the day. The reason I give it 4 stars is because there was no water or any bathrooms except for mobile potties, "eww" There's a plumbing issue going on at this time, that's why there's no water. It's some kind of health hazard in a way..... I hope they fix issues with plumbing soon. We were there for an hour and a half, that's all I could take.

Great to come here as a group! Lifeguard on duty is always a plus!! Sand is very nice but does get hot! Bathrooms on site and good amount of parking available too! Definitely a post card looking beach and not too many rocks in the ocean!!

Hapuna Beach was beautiful and not crowded each time we went. The water was warm and the beach was clean. It was our favorite! We really liked it 😊

Outstanding Beach with epic view and wonderful snorkeling for all ages. Just be careful of these rocks you see in the picture because they aren’t always visible depending on the tide (Picture taken May 2nd 2023). If you snorkel by rocks you see you will have a high probability of seeing turtles. We see them almost every time we go, which is about every other month! Bathrooms currently have no runners water but the state is definitely working on that and has provided outhouses temporarily for use. Life Guards on duty for your safety. ***Please pack out what you packed in and use the provided trash cans. Thank you and enjoy yourself

So cool to see. The turtles. Black sand is cool under your feet. A stand to buy shirts and stickers. Cash gets you a discount. Will take credit cards.

Hapuna Beach is a must visit place! It has been ranked best beach in the US, and it lives up to its name. The beach is easy to access, there are a lot of amenities like showers, foot wash stations, washrooms, fountains, water bottle filler station, and picnic area. The beach is beautiful, about 1/2 mile long so lots of places to set up an umbrella and enjoy the view. Waves were about 8-10 feet high (Nov). Definitely bring a boogie/body board. There's two lifeguard towers keeping watch over the beach goers as well.

Very nice, clean and clear water beach with facilities. Picnic tables and BBQ set up, just beautiful. Never seen chickens at a beach. I guess they needed to tan also;).

This beach was beautiful. Very accessible. Lots of sand and not a lot of rocks on the beach. I know a lot fo the beaches on this island are covered in lava rock, but this one was not. Plenty of space to set up on the beach. Lots of awnings and canopies for lunch or parties. Plenty of bathrooms and shower areas. This beach is well worth the drive.

This is a MUST GO beach for sunset. It was phenomenal. We loved it. It was our last day and we went there. It wasn’t busy at all we spent good two hours walking there. It’s so clean and well kept. Please note there is no water anywhere and there are only portable bathrooms.

  • 3/5 Richard K. 1 year ago on Google
It’s a big beach with a lot of space. It never felt crowded. They have a large parking area. It’s self-pay, and the kiosk is at the entrance to the beach. $10 for parking and $5 per person. Please pay, it covers the cost of maintaining the beach and paying lifeguards. They DON’T have umbrellas or chairs for rent. They only have 2 restrooms with water, and most of the wash stations didn’t have water.

One of the best beaches I’ve been to in my B life!!! I love it so much…. Easy access to beach and ample parking with restrooms and shower to rinse off in after swimming.

Well worth the drive up the coast for a terrific Hawaiian beach. Lots of white sand, lifeguards, bathrooms, etc., as you might expect when visiting a state park. Great swimming, snorkeling, and waves for everyone. We saw a sea turtle and there were supposedly some spinner dolphins in the area just before we arrived.

This is a world class beach. Just experienced a perfect afternoon here today. The sun was bright but there was a cool breeze. Granddaughters played happily in the ocean and the sand. Took a number of cell phone photos because I wasn't sure how they would come out in such a bright and contrasty situation. Galaxy S22 Ultra performed well.

👍👍 Came here for a wedding party. This place was exciting, big, and the food was great. I loved their steak, perfectly cooked. Malasadas and tortilla chips were delicious. Outdoor seating in the night is extremely comfortable.
