I can't tell that this is the best place for the tourists since this church is still active church and not intended to build for serving a tour purpose. In other words, if you visit this church because of just your small curiosity, you may be disappointed by this church. However, if you love the history of the Hawaii including the Christian history in this island, you will not miss this church on your bucket list. The church is small, and you also need to take a small path to arrive this church. The interior of the church tells you how the church father dedicated to serve and teach the Hawaiian with the Bible. The spots on the church location will inspire you many things, such as a thinking why the missionary came here or a thinking how they served the natives in this island. If you want to be inspired by the historical site of this island, I highly recommend you to visit this church.

The Painted Church is very pretty. Sitting a top a hill with views of the ocean. Stop in and make a donation, you will be happy you did! The donations help in ensuring the paintings are properly maintained.

Beautiful grounds! The church is small, but there was someone they're interpreting the different panels, and the techniques used create wonderful theatrical scene painting-like images. Definitely worth a stop!

Beautiful small church with a lot of history. Hand painted biblical passages cover the inside walls, Pilar, and ceiling. You can find a small cemetery next to it.

This was a unique church and the story behind the paintings beautiful. Walls hand painted to assist in teaching the gospel with a language barrier. Still operational today.

St. Benedict Catholic Church is a beautiful church located in Hawaii. It is known as The Painted Church. The scenes depict Holy images from early days. Well worth a visit.

An incredibly beautiful Catholic church that sits on a hill. If you're a visitor, like myself, they give you a handmade yarn lei upon entry before the church service for you to keep. The view when you step outside of the church is breathtaking. The inside is painted beautifully. One mass on Saturday evening and one mass on Sunday morning. Everyone was so nice. So happy to be able to visit this church.

Quaint church that reflects early Catholic faith on the island. It is still an active church so verify open times before going.

This is apparently a stop on a tour bus route. The church is small and with a bus load of people and someone always taking, there was no chance for reference or peace. The century is blocked off, so really no place to wait for the crowd to leave. Otherwise, it was nice to see this beautiful landmark.

Nice building, interesting paintings and lovely grounds. However, I can't see a Catholic church without being reminded of how terribly the church has treated native people around the world. Awful! Worth a look but don't forget lives it's cost.

A beautiful and historic church. The priest at the time of the construction of the current building was a Belgian missionary, Fr. John Velghe. Fr. Velghe was also a self-taught artist who painted beautiful frescoes on the church’s interior. Scenes on the inside of the church include Cain’s murder of Abel, The Writing on the Wall from the Book of Daniel, the Temptation of Christ and the damned in Hell.

The Painted Church was very unique as it was built in the 1800's and still holds church services. The church has the original paintings painted on the wall from the very first Priest who taught the Hawaiian people. The admission is free and there is even an old graveyard out back. Check for hours of operation and its a special piece of Hawaiian history to see. Great spot for pictures too

Also known as the Painted Church, this historic church is a nice quick stop on your journey around the Captain Cook area. This is an active Catholic parish. Be sure to support their efforts to preserve this historic church if you stop!

👍👍 unbelievably scenic with views you won't see anywhere else. The only way for the average person to see the views is from a boat off the coast. 👍 The drive was nice with some great views. When you arrive it's $10 to get in, there is a little souvenir shop with some local items for sale, and local coffee from a farm right up the street. The gardens had quite a bit to see and a great view of the ocean on the bottom. We also enjoyed a fruit stan...
