Not just a BnB – but a Ohana Home! My wife and I stayed in Honu Kai BnB for 4 nights in Dec 2021 – 2 nights in Mahina room and 2 nights in the bungalow room. Wendi and Dave are AWESOME hosts, and even though we have stayed in 20+ BnBs in the last 3 years – this was easily the BEST BnB ever! They truly treat you like family, and you feel like you are at home (just much more luxurious). Some specifics: 1. Rooms – Both Mahina room and the Bungalow were great. Comfortable beds, well stocked washrooms, nice towels. The Mahina room also had a A/C which we used in the night. The bungalow had a huge private lanai (balcony), and a big living room + kitchenette, which we also really enjoyed! Loved both rooms – but if you need more space, try to stay in the bungalow. 2. Breakfast – They serve a finger-licking good 3 course breakfast (see my pics). Wendi easily accommodated my vegetarian dietary restrictions, and we were typically so full that we skipped lunch most days! Breakfast was served from 730-9 AM everyday on a big family style table, and we liked the fact that we didn’t need to commit to a time in advance. Just roll out of bed, and you will be treated like a king! 3. Beach gear – A big highlight/convenience factor for us. There are beach chairs, umbrellas, boggey board, snorkels, fins, towels, ice box etc etc. which you could borrow for the day! It was like a well stocked rental shop – just free 😊. Also we were allowed to take the gear the morning of check in, and keep it until the end of the day the day we checked out, which meant we didn’t have to come back and forth. 4. Hosts – Wendi and Dave are OUTSTANDING CARING people, which made our stay even more special. When our flight got cancelled they flexed their plans so that we had a place to stay for 2 extra nights. When our friends flight got cancelled, while they didn’t have any availability, Wendi called multiple friends of hers to get them a hotel room at a friends and family rate of ~$200 something, when the market rate over NYE was around $5-6K. 5. Concierge services – Wendi and Dave know everything about everything on Big Island! They gave us a hand curated restaurant guide, helped us plan each of our days (even when we were not staying with them), gave us 1 page printouts of what to do where, the list goes on. 6. Ambience – Super well decorated place, have a nice koi fish pond and an outdoor hot tub. 7. Location – 8 min drive to downtown Kona, so pretty convenient. Nothing is really walking, but like us I think everybody in Hawaii rents a car, so no big deal 😊 All in all, a big part of why we enjoyed Big Island so much (despite a canceled flight), was because of Wendi and Dave’s hospitality. If we go back to Kona again, we will ensure we stay with them only!

My husband and I visited Honu Kai Bed and Breakfast for 9 days. It was a wonderful stay! Amy greeted us with a warm smile and an endearing personality! The room was beautiful and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious every morning! I especially loved sitting on the deck and drinking Kona coffee or watching the fish in our private Koi Pond. Everything was wonderful and I can't recommend this B and B enough!

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Honu Kai BnB. As one turns into the driveway you enter a beautiful garden/oasis that has a peaceful serenity about it. Our room was immaculate and tastefully arranged. Amy was great to interact with and very attentive to our needs. Talking with the other guests at breakfast was a delight. Breakfast was a pleasant start to each day. The location is very convenient. We highly recommend this BnB.

This is the best place to stay while visiting the Big Island of Hawaii!! The grounds are BEAUTIFUL! The rooms are CLEAN and COZY! The breakfast is DELICIOUS! The service is IMMACULATE!! They have so many extras such as cooler usage, beach gear, books, movies, maps, hot tub, and more!! My husband and I enjoyed everything and the other guest that we met there. We felt so welcomed and safe. Amy, the host, is amazing and so super sweet! I felt as if I have known her for years. So fun to talk to. I have no complaints and can’t wait to go back to experience this all over again!! Top notch!!! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

We had an amazing stay at Honu Kai recently for four nights! The garden and shared spaces are serene. We loved ending the day under the stars in the hot tub! Breakfast was delicious with fresh coffee and yummy options in the healthier side (fresh fruit and egg bites for example). Brooke was so helpful to suggest a great beach to go to on a weekend day. We loved using the snorkeling equipment and fresh beach towels! Everything was clean, our room felt very private, and it was fun to talk with other guests from all over the world! The location is great for doing a lot of things around Kona! We would definitely love to return someday sooner than later and stay here again! Highly recommend.

Absolutely wonderful place to stay! My wife and I stayed for a week and loved everything about it. Amy, the owner, was great and advised us a few times on places to go. The breakfasts were great each morning and the location truly can't be beat. We hope very much to make it back one day!

We stayed for 10 days for the Ironman Championship and it was the best decision we could make. Amy was a wonderful host preparing a delicious breakfast every day and also catering for all our special food requests. She also provided us with helpful tips and information on where to go and what to see. When entering the property, you feel like entering a tropical paradise with all the lush greens. Being a bit higher up from the coast meant it was colder at night and the surroundings were wonderful. With a rental car, everything you need is just a 10 minute drive away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back one day. 10 of 10 would recommend this place!

Comfortable room, not too far from town, and a good hub for our adventures in the Kona area. Amy was really sweet and attentive, and the rooms were quiet. There's lots of space for lounging, swimming and snorkeling equipment, and a big dedicated shelf in the fridge. We had fun playing with the dog, cat, and geckos. Thank you for a nice stay!

We loved our 5 days on the Kona side of the Big Island and we loved Amy's B & B. Quiet but not remote, it’s away from the crowds but a short drive to the beaches, parks, and dining. We had a quiet and comfortable room upstairs with a shared large lanai, but pretty much had it to ourselves. There are plenty of outdoor spaces to relax and enjoy on the property, which is full of flowering and fruiting trees and plants. You’ll be in good shape for trips to the beaches with coolers, snorkels, beach chairs, and towels to borrow, or warm jackets if you are headed up to Mauna Kea. Breakfasts were delicious and it’s fun to watch the birds at the feeder in the morning. Amy gave us great tips on what to see and do, went the extra mile picking up flowers for our anniversary, and even did our laundry for a very reasonable fee. The coquis and chickens can make a bit of a racket but they didn’t bother us. You can always close the windows and turn on the AC or put in earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. The bed was very comfortable and we had plenty of space for all of our things. Highly recommend!

My husband and I visited Honu Kai with my husband's parents for their first trip to Hawaii. We had an amazing stay at the beautiful property which is set in a tropical garden. We enjoyed meeting the various tenants of Honu Kai, including Coco the dog, Peg the chicken, and many of the other birds of the property. We stayed in the Lani and Mahina suites which share the upper floor and a wonderful lanai. Sitting on the lanai in the evenings with a bottle of wine ("take a bottle, leave a bottle") with the citronella fire lit was a highlight of our stay. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable with many amenities including high speed internet and more than enough power points for all our devices. They were equipped with air con, but we didn't feel the need to use this as the nights cooled off to a very comfortable temperature. Highly recommend booking these two rooms if travelling with friends or family. Amy's daily breakfasts were amazing (the french toast bake was out of this world!) and Amy had a wealth of knowledge to offer about the Big Island. There was ample sunscreen and bug spray available (and I most definitely made heavy use of the latter). Honu Kai was conveniently close to both the airport and downtown Kona. If you are venturing out on a day trip, Amy had everything you might need, from snorkel gear to coolers and ice packs ready to go. Some tips for future travelers: First, definitely stay here! However, note that the amazing local sounds of nature continue through the night and if you may not find a 5am rooster wake up call charming, you may want ear buds. I enjoyed the sounds, but my husband was glad for some noise cancellation. Also, being a tropical property, there are mosquitos (though miraculously none in the rooms). Amy does her best with citronella coils and torches, but for me as someone prone to bites, bug spray was a must anytime I was on the lanai, including for breakfast. No worries if you forget though - Amy has a stash! Lastly, if you stay on the upper floor, remember you'll have to carry your luggage up one flight of stairs. Again, a non-issue for us and we were able to help my in-laws, but something to be aware of. All in all, highly recommend and hope to return someday soon! Thanks, Amy!

If you're looking for a cozy place to stay with delicious breakfast and gorgeous scenery, you've gotta stay here. The breakfast in the morning was different everyday with fresh juice, coffee, fruit, and a hot entree (we had guava french toast and a fluffy egg croissant sandwich). Our room was clean and had all the amenities we could need. The access to snorkeling gear, beach towels, coolers, and more was super convenient. Amy is a lovely host!

From the moment we arrived, everything at Honu Kai was excellent. Amy sent a personalized text when my wife and I were still in the plane and offered to meet us for check in to answer any questions. We stayed in the Lani room, which was spacious and nestled among the tree tops with tropical birds visible from the windows. We also appreciated that the Lani room had AC. Everything at Honu Kai is well thought out, from the delicious breakfast that Amy serves, to Kona coffee available even before breakfast, to complimentary snorkel and beach equipment that guests can borrow. Amy is a gracious host with lots of knowledge of the area. This was the best B&B experience we have ever had, and our only regret is not booking Honu Kai for even longer. Looking forward to the next visit!

Seems to have recently changed ownership but Amy does an incredible job as host and the property is in great condition. The daily breakfasts prepared by Amy were delicious. Everything needed for a day at the beach is made available. Atmosphere is serene and relaxing. The best B&B we stayed at on the island.

Any was a wonderful, welcoming host. The grounds are enchanting with bubbling water fountains, mossy statuary and showy fan tail Koi. You can make yourself at home with all amenities from BBQ to 24/7 coffee. Breakfast is exceptional with the best zucchini bread I have ever tasted. You will get a good nights sleep in a cozy comfortable room. Just minutes from downtown Kona and surrounding beaches. Thank you Honu Kai for a memorable stay.

This was by far the BEST experience I have had staying somewhere I didn't live. No motel or hotel comes close to staying at the Honu Kai. It was more than a room, it was an experience! Not only was the room nice and clean but everything from the moment we got there to the moment we left was positive. They provided us with warm clothes to go to the Mauna Kea Summit and also a thermos to enjoy hot cocoa when we got up there. The breakfast was extremely tasty and I loved the way it came out. A light fruit dish and then a nice savory dish after. Don't waste your money at a hotel! This is the way to go, I'm forever doing bed and breakfasts after this experience. Thank you Dave and Wendi!

We arrived late at night and Dave was so inviting I knew we were at a wonderful B and B. Our cottage had everything we would ever want. Breakfasts were gourmet and the table setting was so pretty. Wendy is a great hostess and knows how to entertain her guests. Dave and Wendy are so hospitable and they go out of their way to make your vacation extra special. We followed the itineraries that Wendy created from the tours around the island to the restaurants. Everything was perfect. If you are going to Kona don’t look elsewhere. You will not be disappointed.

We loved our stay here! Wendi and David were kind, helpful, and a pleasure to talk to. Breakfast with delicious fresh fruit every day was a highlight. We also loved the B&B’s beautiful park-like setting. Sipping coffee on the porch each morning while watching the fish and birds and listening to the fountain was delightful.
