Aloha!! My experience at My Hawaii Hostel was wonderful. When I arrived hostel staff checked me in, showed me all around, and informed me of all the hostel rules. The hostel people was very helpful and nice, he also gave me tips about how to get around and what is around to explore. I only stayed for two nights but the whole experience was great. This place was very basic not like those fancy big city hostels but it was very clean and well organized and better if you are looking for an experience not just a stay. The hostel provides free beach towels and there is a bus stop in from of the Hostel that makes it very convenient to take the Kona trolley. I would come stay at this place again if I get a chance!!

We booked one of the private rooms, which was small but comfortable and tucked away from the noisy street. A/C in the room was a big plus! The staff was friendly and hardworking. The price is fair for being right in Kona. Downsides: - The hostel caters to young people so expect them to have parties. The night we stayed, they were still noisy past the 10pm quiet time. - The showers are shared and often taken when you want them. When I showered, there was no hot water left. - The hostel will do your laundry for $5/bag. It's a great price! But we found that our clothes didn't smell very clean after the washing. They should probably use more detergent. - Parking is very limited. If you don't get a spot in their lot, they tell you to park a little down the street at a church. That parking was fine (plenty of spaces), but we were uneasy with our rental car being out of our sight.

I would like to say I’m sorry I have to write this negative review. The reason I’m writing it is because I complained and other guests complained and nothing was done. First, I like to say I love staying here and appreciate the staff. I’ve stayed here maybe 7x. It’s had always been a good experience Unfortunately, recently there has been change to the rooms. It’s still an affordable fun place, but if you need to sleep in a cold room, Im just warning you that the old reviews are dated. They recently locked the Ac remote to the wall and it cannot be changed to be colder. There is air blowing but it’s not cold enough to sleep 8 people in a room in the tropics. Unfortunately, now the rooms are quite uncomfortable and I’m warm sitting in the room with nobody in it.

I booked a private room for 3 nights recently, it was small and basic but very clean and more than adequate for my needs. It was located on the back side of the building, a plus since the hostel is located right on the waterfront main drag. Free off street parking was included. Check-in was smooth and the two staff who greeted and checked me in were courteous and helpful, however beyond that my interactions with the other employees in the front office were just ok. Not rude, just indifferent. The "quiet hours" were not enforced and the noise coming from the front office could be disruptive if you're a light sleeper. There's also a resident rooster who was crowing at all hours of the night. I don't know if this is something the hostel can fix or not ( does the bird belong to them or one of the neighbors?), but either way it is something to take note of. The experience overall was definitely more positive than negative: a private room at the best price I could find in Kona, a comfortable bed, and a nice kitchen facility for meal preparation. If you're a pet person you'll love the two resident cats, super friendly and love hanging out with the guests.

I had a wonderful time meeting everyone from around the world. The owner and employees genuinely enjoyed having everyone there and they were very accommodating. The kitchen was fully stacked with all the cooking tools you need and the employees were right there to help. Great sitting/living room area where everyone hangs out and eats while awaiting the next adventure. The beach and beer/wine store was within walking distance... and the grocery store and downtown was a short drive away. I've been to a lot of hostels across the world and I'd say this was one of the best experiences. I was sad to leave!

The hostel was so good, it has parking and the location is perfect. Rooms are good with lockers, and the space for cooking is good too. Also it has a terracr with some table outdoor. Totally recommended. The uniqur point, is that they are not offering tours to the island.

One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at!! Clean, good location and super friendly people that work there! I felt welcome from the first second I got there (thanks Bailey!) !! Right across the street is a hotel where you can walk through to get to the ocean. Trolley stops right in front of the hostel! Kitchen is awesome too! Enjoyed my stay a lot and didn't want to leave! ❤️

This is the best hostel in Kona. Most of the staffs are kind and friendly but some of them are Karens. Everything is well organized, walking distance to the beach. 10/10 recommend!

The Hostel's location is wonderful. Just across the street you can enjoy a sunset and hear the waves. I really enjoyed how clean the Rooms, kitchen and bathrooms were. The highlight of the experience goes to the Friendly and Helpful Staff! Thank you Adam, Marie & Antoinne, Leo, Tara and Jason. You all made us feel so welcome. Thanks for the tips on where to go and what to see!

Great place to stay! We spent a night in one of the private rooms and it was perfect. Clean, quiet, cool, and spacious. Much better than the more expensive hotels in Kona. There are 4 showers and all bathrooms were clean. Parking was free onsite as well. The staff members are all friendly. Highly recommend!

Our favorite hostel in HI. Always clean, organized and welcoming. Space is well designed so you can easily make friends and start a conversation, or just have some quiet time to yourself at the outdoor table. There was a house party on July 4th, the vibe was so comfortable (not too loud, nothing crazy) that you feel like it’s a small gathering of friends. The owner is very considerate and provided impossible and beyond patties for vegan and vegetarian friends ❤️

Pros: - Location!! Can't fault it - We shared with other lovely travellers (I know you can't always guarantee this!) - More economical than a resort/hotel - Friendly staff Cons: - Not the best value for money but probably the most affordable option on the North Shore - No A/C in bedrooms.. only a fan - Bedrooms are very small - Feels rundown and not overly clean in the kitchen and bathroom

Fantastic location and great hostel. A surprising bonus was that I could rent snorkeling equipment at the hostel and on very competitive terms. So nice. Will stay again if I get the chance.

Perfect location- 15 mins by the free shuttle from the downtown. Nice staff, pet friendly. The accomodation and facilities are ok and clean. Only the mattress could be wider (I have 132 pounds and I am slim, but it’s really narrow size). I can recommend this place- nice, clean and cheap.

I lucked out by choosing this place as my first hostel to ever stay at. The staff are absolutely wonderful. They are welcoming and go over everything you need to know when checking in. I stayed in the single occupancy room, and it was just what I needed. It's great having coffee in the morning with the other guests. And I just loved the sweet cats on the property. Can't wait to come back.

I had an incredible experience at "My Hawaii Hostel"! The staff truly made me feel like family, and the owner was amazing, always ensuring everyone had a great time. The convenience of the trolley stop right in front of the hostel was a major plus. I can't say enough about Jaz, TJ, Bailey, and Hayden – they are undoubtedly the best. Their hospitality and enthusiasm made my stay unforgettable. Look no further, this is the best place to stay in Kona if you’re looking to meet lifelong friends and share amazing experiences on the big island. Mahalo 🤙

Love the people here. Stayed here multiple times and the dorm rooms were clean and nice. Great facilities, there is a bus stop right in front of the hostel, and Magic Sands Beach is a nice beach to walk to down the road from the hostel. The hostel lets you borrow beach towels for free! And has a well stocked kitchen 👍

Jason makes this place a great place to stay. I had a few interactions with him. He always tries to help. This would not be a 5 star place without him and the people he hires.

Super friendly staff, perfect location near the beach and trolley stop. Clean rooms they would have staff vacuuming the rooms during the day while people were away. My favorite hostel I’ve stayed at and I’ve stayed at several in many places. Will be back in May!

Aloha! Unfortunately I couldn’t go to the Island of Hawai’i since my flight got delayed twice — I had to cancel my trip. Jason and his team understood the situation and he cancelled my reservation without penalty and further problems. Thank you very much for understanding and being kind, this is why Hawaii is one of my favorite places in the world. I’ll come back soon and will def spend my nights here. Mahalo!

Such a fun place to hang out! I came on Thanksgiving, and they had a delicious Thanksgiving dinner cooked up. First time I've had a watermelon, cucumber, cilanto salad and I'm definitely going to have to make one myself. Staff was super chill. Towels and beach towels were provided. Also super close to downtown Kona (just a bus ride or short car ride away). Easy parking also.

Best Hostel on Big Island. I just leaved Kona, but i want to go back. Its the best Hostel. The staff is friendly, nice and helpful. If you have a question you can just ask them and they will always help you. There is a Kitchen with everything what you need to cook. The Bathroom got cleaned everyday. The Beds are soft and comfortable.

Best hostel I've stayed at in Hawaii, by far. I stayed there in January 2022. The service was absolutely amazing, so friendly. The rooms were nice, really tidy, good beds, airconditioning was working well too. Even the kitchen utensils were in good shape. It might seem trivial but the knife I used to cut onions was nice and sharp, this is not always a given in hostels. The people staying there were also very nice and well-mannered. I stayed here for only two nights, since I wasn't able to stay on Big Island longer, but I would recommend this place to everyone. The only unfortunate thing is that after an early morning shower I forgot to take my toiletries back to the room, which ended up in my shaver and some other things being stolen. Of course this is not the fault of the staff nor the hostel itself.

I stayed in an all female doorm for 3days. The room was spacious, clean and the AC was quite. There are lockers for your valuables including a lock which is free of charge. The bathrooms were always clean and so is the kitchen. The kitchen is truly the heart of the hostel and you are sure to meet all kinds of people there. The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The owner is an absolute delight and really has done a marvelous job at making the place feel like a home even when you’re a couple thousand miles away from your own. I can’t recommend this place enough! I would choose this hostel again every time.
