This restaurant is wonderful 😁 I went there yesterday but they ran out of avocado, so I ordered the sugar cane juice, OMG it's fresh and sweet! I got the avocado sandwich the next day, it tastes great. They have tons of cane juice based smoothies, you cannot go wrong with any of them.

its incredibly awkward each time I’ve left this place the guy who works in the back messages me on a mutual dating app saying he saw me eating my food... um ok? then proceeded to say he has the right to ban me from the cafe if I tell anyone. I really enjoyed coming here but he’s made it awkward, and lost me and my family as a customers.

Wonderful cafe off of the main Kilauea Avenue. Spacious and well lit inside, plenty of parking out front/side, plus more behind the building. Food was delicious, service was fast and friendly. Open style kitchen, you can see your food being prepared.

This is the first restaurant on all my reviews where I wish I could give 20 stars instead of 5. Would probably mess up the logistics lol Sweet Cane Cafe healthy, gluten free options, and vegan menu is amazing! It’s not just your regular vegan restaurant lacking in flavor and depth but they go above and beyond to make sure you are not just eating healthy but eating fricken GOOD. I’ve had quite a few things on their menu thus far. Everything is well thought out for your body, belly and health. Little hint If you like sour Krout theirs is homemade and the best I’ve ever had anywhere. Menu ideas use sustainable local ingredients full of Hawaiin veggies fruits and flavors. Their cacao durian smoothie was so heavenly I actually prefer it in taste over McDonald’s and fast food shakes any day of the week. The pizza is tangy and full of unique flavor and nuttiness. The ambiance is super chill clean and zen and the people that help make this place happen are all full of good energy and love. Please if you frequent this place tip generously because there is a lot of extra time spent good causes they are doing behind the scenes they don’t even talk about and thus brings the spirit and soul of Sweet Cane Cafe full force in a magical healing edible earth form for us all to try“True Charity is done in secret and comes from the heart not the mouth for praise and organization status. It doesn’t let one hand see what the other does.”

Everything was tasty. The smoothies and sugarcane was the highlight. Should try this place. Black bean burger was not the regular type, taste-wise. It was more on the healthier side.

This place is my favorite and locally sourced from their farm on the Hamakua. Love their Cassava crusted pizza. I've ordered a GF birthday cake made by Jackie twice (the best) and probably some of the most yummy breads one can find on the island. I also get their cane juice. They make the best sauce too (addicted to their Chimichurri sauce).

Don’t miss Taco Tuesday! Variety of delicious foods for vegetarians! Ate here every day we stayed in the area. Food comes from local farms and tastes fresh. Soup of the day changes daily. Variety of smoothies, sandwiches, bowls, kambucha, etc. Fresh bread. Pleasant staff.

We went to this place for almost fresh sugar cane juice (flash frozen after extraction but with no preservatives). We were excited since it is rare to find in Mainland US and it did meet the expectations. They have a wide variety of vegan/vegetarian menu using native vegetables and fruits. We ordered a macadamia nut pesto sandwich and an ulu (breadfruit) jalapeño burger. Both were so delicious and different on our taste palette. Their smoothies are amazing too. We had a dragon fruit smoothie. I wish I could try more of their menu. This place is in Hilo and very close to Rainbow falls. If around, please try it out.

All vegan place! We just had to try it! The menu seemed very inviting! There’s decent space for parking! We asked for recommendations and the following is what we got: 1. Pickled pepper sandwich with Poke as a side 2. Smoky taro triple taco. (Tuesday special) 3. Açaí berry smoothie 4. Cane lime juice Absolutely loved the flavors! The smoothie was rich and creamy! I thought it would be bitter but it was pretty good! The people here are so friendly and welcoming! Felt comfortable here!

Normal chain stuff is sooooo boring! Locally grown fresh food from a family farm!? I'M IN! Vegan, vegetarian, gluten free! Smoothies and special tropical drinks galore with a little gluten free bakery inside. I like different and would eat every meal here if possible...lol.

We loved everything we ordered. The restaurant is welcoming, the staff are super nice and the food is amazing. I'm glad we found this place during our trip and would definitely recommend this place. Dragon fruit mousse and poke bowl is a must try.

Good food, good people, fine location, yummy desserts, drinks, and fun gift items. I have eaten here half dozen times, this photo is breakfast- oat pancakes with mango banana … and coffee. I loved the pancakes have to eat a bite with fruit … not a fan if the coffee but lunch is good too so not detracting stars for that.

Sweet Cane Cafe is the pinnacle of modern, local-kine food. With innovative takes on traditional Hawaiian staple crops grown locally at the cafe’s partner farm, you couldn’t ask for fresher meals. The cane juice is to die for (lilikoi is my go-to) and they are able to make just about anything vegan/gluten and dairy free without sacrificing the quality or components of the dish! I tried the kalo burger today, and I will certainly be back for more~ the staff are super friendly, and both the interior and outdoor spaces are lovely and ideal for getting some work done!

Cute cafe away from the busy streets of Hilo. The acai bowl is very fresh! Not a lot of fruits on top, just bandana and granola and we loved it. There was more acai than filler and better pricing than others in town. Ample parking available, highly recommend. We did not get any food or drinks but it looks and smells delicious!

This is really gem of a place in Hilo. The quality of the food is fantastic! Lots of vegan and vegetarian options! I was in Hilo for 3 days and went there every single day! Best Açaí bowls! The cassava pizza was yummy! Salads were all amazing! A must must try!

That was a good meal, I'm not a fan of veggies but I would go here again. Everything i tried was just amazing, and I can't stress enough how much I don't like veggies. If I ate here everyday I would actually enjoy my veggies.

If you are looking for healthy options, this place is IT. Everything here is so freshly prepared, the salad, the goat cheese( the very best I tasted so far), the sandwiches, the desserts and the BEST of all … their cane juice. Indulge at this place as much as you can. We came to HILO just for this cafe. The staff are so friendly, the price is reasonable and it’s such a charming place… fresh flowers are everywhere. I appreciate the details that not only they add to the foods that they make but the ambiance as well. One shall not missed.

Large portion of açaí bowl and pitaya bowl. Both was very good. I actually liked the pitaya bowl a little more. Nice cafe with many vegan options. Ample parking plus lots of seating during the morning.

If you want to flush out the usual daily grind of eating meats and animal based protein this is a good place to try. Remember we started off gatherers and hunters. So lots of the food here still takes more effort in some ways to make hince a slightly higher price but the place is clean and consistent. Love the hungry farmers . Got the chick pea and blackbean burger, love the sauteed mushrooms and ice cold brew coffee on the side.

This was the most incredible breakfast. I am a pancake snob and couldn’t get over how amazing the pancakes were here!! They were so rich and flavorful and the fruit on top was fresh and delicious. My husband got the Mac nut pesto sandwich with sourdough bread and he was dying over it. I don’t think you can go wrong with what you order here…we will be coming back asap!

Takes way to long to prepare a sandwich even at times when hardly no one is there. Prices are high. I will say staff is friendly

  • 4/5 Chloe M. 4 years ago on Google
Loved all the vegan options. Do specifically say you want your items veganized. We had a bit of a mix up and our food was not vegan at first. The staff was very apologetic and corrected the non-vegan food. The smoothie and cane juice were a treat. Flavors just weren't super impressive. Lots of healthy options.

Sweet place with a friendly vibe. We went for gluten-free banana bread (good) and a weird lilikoi type pudding thing that was too tart and with a jelly texture. No decaf coffee option. Would like to try a lunch sometime but doubt we’ll be back this way. Happy to see Hilo getting more sophisticated food options!

The chocolate sapote raw pie is quite delicious, delicately sweet, and flavourful. I also recommend their kombucha. I must say whoever invented the aforementioned delicacies has excellent taste in gastronomy and made a conscious choice not to drown us customers in the abyss of extreme sweetness. Staff is friendly and gives great menu advice.

It is a very nice place and clean setting, almost wonder if my non veganness and bad dieting is like a sign that says, outsider, or maybe I need to where more beads and buy a pair of yoga pants. It is a nice setting, and the food looks great, definitely better than Starbucks or other dive coffee shops I have seen lately. Maybe next time I arrive would have made some serious lifestyle changes and can blend into the mix with a dash of patchouly and finely distinguished physique that exudes my inner light... Namaste. So delicious. Mmmmm.

I hate this place. I called in advance to ask about a certain thing "of course we serve it all day" no more than 20 minutes i get there and I hear "odd we haven't had that on a while"

I have been going here for years, good, healthy food and typically good service. However their curbside pickup for COVID, is apparently just an opportunity to laugh at their customers for taking a global pandemic seriously. My husband just had major surgery and is immunosuppressed, and when greeted by staff with the food, she just took one look and laughed and shook her head because we had masks on. No gloves, no mask. Also allowing customers to pack into their little patio is incredibly irresponsible. I’ll be taking our weekly meeting post-covid somewhere else.

  • 3/5 Kerith E. 4 years ago on Google
Sweet Cane is trying very hard to provide some of the best conceived and healthiest food in Hilo--a rare thing overall in a very limited and over-priced food realm. There are only two problems: 1) the food's quality and seasoning are inconsistent, and 2) with 2 entrees and 2 drinks, you can't walk out of there for less than $50. If the food was top notch every time, I would say, "Ok, I will just take the hit to my wallet." But after 4 good-faith tries, my husband and I decided not to return.

I'm not a vegan/vegetarian and I was very impressed with the food here. I tried their black bean Chipotle burger, it was delicious. Also their habanero hot sauce pairs perfectly with it, give it a try, just not too much!
