My cat was deathly sick and my regular vet wasn't available so I had no choice but to go to CMAC. They suggested euthanizing him but we chose to go ahead with treatment. He was hospitalized and spent one night at the clinic. The bill was outrageous. Over $1800! Be prepared, they are expensive. My cat survived despite them suggesting we put him down. They did not explain the many meds we were given. Take your animals to At Home Animal Clinic Dr. Dewey is the best. Avoid CMAC if possible.

I was very disappointed with this clinic. If you want to feel a part a slow assembly line, go to this clinic. I waited 20 mins after my scheduled appointment time for them to bring in my dogs. Which was an understandable wait time, as long as my dogs an other dogs were going to be taken care of properly. Was told several times that this clinic would call my old clinic to get my dogs medical history to finally to be told 3/4 in the visit that I have to call an email to this clinic. Which is a minor inconvenience, I just wished the people I talked to on the phone or the nurses that brought them in would of just told me to do it in the first place. The nurses brought my dogs in and out of the clinic made me feel unwelcome and a burden for asking questions and sometimes re-asking making sure that my kids were receiving the care they needed. Then doctor said that one of my dogs needed 2-4 teeth extracted because they were dead and black, even though a month before I flew her over here, the old clinic said they were ok. So, going with my gut, I took her to another clinic, and the new clinic said they were fine and no need for any extractions at all. Thereā€™s more that I could go into but, I will just leave it at that. Overall I wish I had a better experience. Maybe everyone was having a bad day. In the end, Iā€™m so glad I got a second opinion.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!! This place deserves zero stars all they way around. From the ridiculous prices to the horrible HORRIBLE service we were given. I had two pet emergencies this past year, both times I went there needing help and I was shocked at how unprofessional the older haole female employee was! Completely rude and showed no compassion whatsoever. After speaking with some family and friends, they also shared the same horrible experience with that same employee, amazing that she is still employed there. I ended up going to West Maui Clinic (Dr. Lacy Palomino, she was GREAT!) both times for my pet and I highly suggest you go elsewhere too!

Our 15 yo Maltese needs a rear molar taken out. I phoned to get an appointment and was told he would need Xā€™rays ( necessary) and a list of unnecessary tests before they would take out his tooth. They then informed me the tooth extraction would cost at least $4,000 and possibly much more. My human dentist says all he would do if it were my molar would take an xā€™ray for a $100, and the extraction for $400-500. Unreal. Price gouging at its worst. It would be literally cheaper for me to fly to SF with my pup and get it done there.

Not the same since covid. Waited 30 minutes in their outside waiting area, not allowed in side, cuz covid in 2022. Harassed while waiting by a couple drunks. They were very interested in my marital status. No staff around to do or say or witness anything. Got the dog in and they fail to call me as they said they would, they call my husband who was working instead. While they were apparently reaching out to him, I was left on hold for 5 minutes until I hung up and called again, just to be put on hold again. Iā€™m sure they were busy tracking down my husband. Over and hour later I learn that the bill will be nearly $500 including a $50 charge to clean my dogs ears.

Unequivocally recommend Dr. Curtis Willauer at Central Maui Animal Clinic. He is a skilled DVM and provides my very dear 12 year old Maltese with acupuncture treatments to keep her pain managed from nerve damage in her neck. We have been patients of Dr. Willauer for nearly 2 years now. She is doing very well. We love Dr. Willauer for his skill and compassion.

Carful these people just wanna take your money and use your love for your pet to scare you into spending more. Best to get a second opinion before being fooled into thinking this surgery or medication is absolutely necessary, I did and it not only saved us money but also found out we have been getting the wrong info from out vet and that they where scamming us into paying for things we didnā€™t even need. These people should not be able to operate on an island please help warn others.

Killed my dog, went there for a simple fixing and they killed her. The staff treated us horribly and had no communication with each other what so ever. If you want your pet to survive donā€™t go to this place, make the drive and go to the one on west Maui.

Buyer Beware! EXPENSIVE VET BILLS! We had an extremely stressful situation and the staff made it such a horrible experience. They failed to diagnose and charged hundreds. A less then 5 minutes exam for 1 pet the bill was $83.34: * Biohazard Fee $6.51 - an unknow markup - don't even know why we are charged this * Examination Wellness Bundle $76.83 (the bundle including: examination; wellness $67.33 & Clinical support $9.50) - The vet were in the room for less than 5 mins. the charge makes the Vet's hourly rate to more the $800/hr! - plus another unknown Markups of clinical support? The markup of the Rx is 250% of very basic medication such as antibiotic. the exact same Rx med you can order from 1800 Petmeds for $2/each, they marked up to $5/each. They would not refill the Rx medication via the phone, they made us must take the pets in again for checkup to pay the $76.83 exam bundle before they would issue refills, with 250% markup! They are way overpriced & took advantage of Pet owners. Sad.....

Dr. Willauer is the best Veterinarian I've ever known. He takes such good care of my little minpin mix, Dixie. He's not your average Vet, he doesn't have a cold metal table to do exams, he has a blanket on the ground so he can be on your pets level, which to me shows his love & respect for animals. He's successfully fixed both of Dixie's knees; cleaned her teeth and kept her healthy, and I'm forever grateful for that. I've referred everyone I know to him & to Central Maui Animal Clinic!

I brought my dog here to get checked out , paid the emergency fees and got him in. The reason I brought him in was because he hadn't used the bathroom in 2 days and had a swollen eye. The doctor said he was not concerned with the swollen eye and gave him some anitnausa medicine and said if he throws up in the next 24 hrs bring him back. 30 hours later my dogs eye is swollen shut and they said bring him in to get checked out and pay the examination fees again.

I had not had a problem before. Great vet and before this encounterā€¦ the staff was always very polite. I came in to ask if their might be a pill form to the medication prescribed for my cat. The very rude and inadequate receptionist (dark long hair, tall, Asian lady?).She interrupted her co-worker to be very rude to me (shorter colored hair lady) I stated what I was looking for. The associate seemed very annoyed and asked me the same question three times. With the same answer. I did not know the name but it was for his kidneys. I still donā€™t have a follow up call or email. I am disappointed because we have limited options. There is no need to be that way when people are coming in asking a simple question.

Finally found a vet that correctly diagnosed my dog, Sophie. Dr Gehring was very thorough and compassionate during Sophie's exam. She recommended blood work and x-rays. We found out Sophie has congestive heart failure with fluid build up. Sophie was hospitalized a few days in oxygen and then returned home with several pill medications. She's so much more active and is back to her normal self again. I cannot thank Central Maui staff enough. Mahalo Dr Gehring, I can't thank you enough.

Would not recommend. Use to go to west Maui animal clinic. Central Maui was a terrible experience. We took our sick dog in after we waited 4 days for an appointment. They did labs kept her over night with fluids and meds. Picked her up less than 24 hours and she looked to be on deathā€™s doorstep. Brought her home and in less than 8 hours she had perked up was walking drinking fluids. Was told to bring her back in at 4 that day. Her labs had improved and she looked much better but still told us basically it was worthless and should put her down. Charged me incorrectly and didnā€™t even call in the medication as they said they would. The nurse was not caring or empathic. Also after spending over 1,500 no telephone call the next day to even check on. This is coming from a healthcare worker, show some compassion and empathy! The lady from Lahaina was very nice and front desk staff was nice, but thatā€™s about all I can say positive.

Took our dog in this morning after he got stung by a Portuguese Man-o-war on his mouth this morning. He licked and possibly ingested one while at the beach. Called while in route and was omitted upon arrival. They checked him out and determined he didnā€™t eat it based on his vitals and sting marks. We were discharged within 1.5 hrs. They gave him meds and is he doing much better. Gotta admit, given that it was an emergency visit I thought the tab was going to be a lot more out of pocket. Thankful Maui has a service like this. Our standard vet refers emergencies here and I now understand why. Thank you to the staff who took great care of my boy. Happy heā€™s ok

Thank you Dr Curtis with much aloha and blessings!

I took my dog to this facility on a Saturday morning and agreed to pay emergency visit extra exam cost. My dog had a problem with vomiting. The person that examined him- Anna, said he needed surgery asap. I agreed to have the surgery done. She called me later that afternoon and said the surgery was successful and that now the dog just needs to recover overnight. 8:00 AM the following morning, I received a call from a different ā€œDoctorā€ (Naomi) and she told me the dog appeared to be fine and that she needed to sedate the dog in order to take his blood for testing. I resisted the thought that he would be sedated AGAIN after all the sedation, drugs, and pain meds he had just a few hours ago. After 2 calls and her continuing to insist. I simply told her- please do the best thing for my dog. A few minutes later, she called me back and said my dogā€™s heart stopped and he was dead. That dog was my whole world. Before the surgery, they charged my credit card approx. $4500.00, the following day they charged an additional approx. $2500.00 on my card. The last entry on the bill was $300.00 for cremation credited to the ā€œdoctorā€ that sedated my dog. Their office, directed by Michelle, instructed all the employees not to answer any of my questions regarding the line items on the bill or what transpired with my dog before his death. Incidentally, this ā€œManager- Michelle, was extremely rude to me on top of everything else.

This vet is awful and the way he runs his business is shameful! He gave my dog 2 knee surgeries... a week later the screw in left leg came out!... when I brought my poor pup back they still charged me almost 400 dollars after I had just paid 4 grand for original surgery... they treated us so cold the reeptionist treat me like criminal when I was late on the payments they forced me to pay for a second surgery thatwas a redul5 of negligencea result

Service Sucks, didnā€™t give an option instead of requiring leg amputation to my cat, found out they donā€™t do surgeries. This place is just a Pet Price gouging Factory! DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE!! Will never go back there again . Employees there are Rude & looked very unhappy! If you value your animals then go elsewhere but here! Your animalā€™s leg is injured? Theyā€™ll tell you to amputate it without hesitation , easy money Right? Better just go to Animal Care Hospital, a one stop place for your animals, no BS, without a long wait for surgery or care.Dr Barros is amazing.

Had to take my dying cat for after hours emergency to Central Animal Clinic. The older blonde lady that works there is probably one of the RUDEST people i've ever met!! She told me to wait while my cat is gasping for air. She would answer emergency door bell or answer emergency calls. She has no sympathy or compassion for nothing or no one! All she wanted was payment. before my cat could be seen . Honestly, why would Central Animal Hospital even employ such an evil person?? Why?? i own my own business and someone like this wouldn't last a minute with me. She'd be gone in a heartbeat! Old blonde lady if your that miserable in life maybe you should just quit your job...grouch!!

Really impressed with the quality of care here ā€” for both myself and my pet. Convenient scheduling and location. Nice, clean building. Overheard a lot of sensitivity regarding another pet who may have had cancer. Thank you for serving our island animals.

I have a 17 year old wiener dog, he went into Anaphylactic Shock and I had no idea that was possible. When I brought him to this Vet, they calmed me down through the process and didnā€™t skip a beat to get him stable. I got updates and each time they were amazing. They did keep him overnight and had no issue with me bringing him his stuffed animal and a shirt of mine to help him relax. This little pup has been with me since he was 6 weeks, it was a very scary experience, but this Vet and the employees there are outstanding and I felt 100% comfortable with him there.

Horrible staff. Vet didnā€™t know what she was talking about. Almost everything she said was wrong. Literally, every diagnosis except one was wrong. But wait! The one correct diagnoses (a broken extremity) was never even addressed in this $1300+ visit! Additionally, they have the rudest, most callous vet assistant, young, skinny, fake eyelashes white girl with foreign accent, spits out prices with no explanations and then expects you to sign a bill that costs over $4000 without any logic or discourse. When I repeated and summarized her three options when I told her $4,000+ for a one day visit that did not include any surgery, just supervision overnight, she said my only options were to murder my pet, relinquish it to the clinic, or find someone to sign it over to and pay for it, all within two minutes of ever meeting this young 20 something year old girl who wouldnā€™t give her name or wear a name tag (sheā€™s probably gotten a long list of complaints already). She never introduced herself or even shared a polite, basic social greeting, just shoved a paper in my face demanding money without explanation, and gave me a sickening, impractical ultimatum. This recent, post teenage girl argued with me when she was confronted, backpeddled with no remorse after she realizes what she said WILL get her in trouble and could get her fired or sued. We literally went back and forth of her saying ā€œI didnā€™t say that,ā€ to me saying, ā€œyes you did.ā€ To the company, I recommend hiring college graduates! (When I left with my pet the same teen gave me some medication. When I asked when to provide it, she said every three hours, I asked when I should start, she said tonight. I asked, no, what time. She said every three hours. I said, no, when did you provide it last? So I know when I should start administering it? She had the audacity to say, start it when your dog starts SCREAMInG. This lady is sick and ignorant. When I looked at the label later, it stated every EIGHT hours starting at 7. She didnā€™t even read the instructions herself and was giving me even MORE false information). Back on point, I had to ask for a separate, common sense option, which should be the legal protocol of the business, which is to have patients sign off what was done only out of strict medical necessity in an emergency situation, what the next steps are, and what the next financial options are. I suggested that I pay for what was done (which I did not even consent to, it was done behind my back without a choice), what obviously needed to be done (an X-ray), and the reading fee. From there, I can deem if any other services are required based on the condition of my pet. I was also charged the I know biohazard fee, which was never explained. I was distraught and signed off on what was done, but should have put up a fight, as with a previous pet, the same clinic performed procedures without my consent and I had to argue to get them removed. You cannot charge me for what I DID NOT consent to! Price gougers! Finally, said my dogā€™s broken extremity needed surgery. If itā€™s so serious it requires surgery, WHY DID YOU NOT PUT A SPLINT ON MY DOG?!!! I literally paid almost $1500 for a 1.5 hour visit and they let my dog leave with a broken body and no splint for an area that is appropriate, and desperate for one. To add insult to injury, they didnā€™t even tell me if my dogā€™s extremity could heal on its own with a point or required surgery. I didnā€™t find out it need led surgery until three days AFTER the appointment and accident. I CANā€™T BELIEVE the GROSS MALPRACTICE, incompetence, and disgustingly unethical practices of this butcher shop!

I cannot recommend this clinic enough! From the moment we brought our puppy in for her spay surgery and eye checkup, we knew we were in good hands. But what really stood out to us was the exceptional level of care we received even after we left the clinic. When I had a health concern about my dog, the staff went above and beyond to provide me with valuable advice and support. Their kindness and compassion truly made all the difference during a stressful time. We are so grateful to have found a veterinary practice that not only provides professional, high-quality care, but also genuinely cares about our furry family member.

We had to take our dog here for an after hours emergency visit. They are one of the few places on the island open 24 hours and will accommodate for a high fee. Youā€™re basically paying for an ā€œemergency roomā€ visit with no insurance so the visit cost is all out of pocket. The cost was worth it to us for the peace of mind that our dog was not only okay, but was so much better after the visit. Weā€™re grateful for this place.

  • 1/5 Ame S. 1 year ago on Google
A very frustrating experience! They force a $309 emergency visit fee if your pet is sick and needs to be seen without waiting 2-3 days for a scheduled apt. Emergencies are life threatening not sick pets! Why else would you have a pet doctor?! Yo top it off, after paying a ridiculous fee for an exam you canā€™t even go with them . Iā€™m very disappointed and will find another Doctor. Itā€™s not the first frustrating experience weā€™ve had.

During this crazy time of Covid. Most vets were still doing drop offs only. We had a special situation and were thrilled to find that CMAC had recently reopened to allow pet owners to come in with their pet. Cannot praise them enough for the care given. Mahalo!

The staff is always friendly. I can only highly recommend their service and they are open 24 hours if you have an emergency. I specially appreciate the service of Dr. Curtis Willauer. He meets my needs of care for my two Tibetan Spaniels. His wisdom of natural and allopathic medicine and acupuncture has helped my four legged so many times.. Dr. Curtis has helped me to understand their behaviors when they get sick and made me a better care taker of the ones we all love so much. Thank you.
