It is very frustrating when you pay for a fine dining experience and the restaurant doesn’t bother to filter their tap water, are they unaware that it tastes like chlorine? The service was good but they were really pushing their cocktails, I was the designated driver so I was getting annoyed by it since I could only have one drink. The beef Wellington was far tastier than the steak diane but there was barely any meat in the crab that was served alongside it, cocktails were too sweet for my taste, and the lilikoi cheesecake was too strong on the lilikoi flavor. The place had a nice ambiance but too dark to dine in. It was an interesting experience but we won’t be returning. We can get far better food and drinks at other restaurants at the same price point.

A few things made this an uncomfortable experience. Service: I was sort of excited to use the code word to get in but as we walked up the waiter asked for the name on the reservation and the door was wide open. Bartender was nice and offered some of his counter space to us so my wife didn’t have to clutch her purse while sitting on the bar stool. Atmosphere: We sat inbetween two tables and another couple at the counter. This left us with a limited amount of area at the edge of the counter. Waiters had to keep rubbing against our backs to get to the tables behind us. These seats shouldn’t have been available for reservation. Food: I enjoyed my scallops. The steak was stringy/undercooked and mash potatoes had no flavor. Drinks were ok. Don’t believe the hype, save your money.

What can I say but out of this world! This place was fantastic from the time we met Lina at the telephone booth to the sit down at the table with Merit. The full staff of Rae, Clark And Nico were amazing. Merit had such a great sense of humor and was extremely knowledgeable on everything on the menu. When recommended drinks, Merit definitely lived up to his named and earned a Merit for his knowledge. The drinks and the food was pristine, never had anything better. This place was amazing in every aspect. Professional and very top notch staff. The food was divine and definitely worth every penny.

Located inside Kailua Bar And Grill, you need a password to get in, check in at the telephone booth. The team was super attentive the entire time, ordered the brussel sprouts to start, entrees were lobster mac and cheese (instead of just the mac and cheese) as well as the porterhouse steak (28 oz) as American Wagyu, was $159 when we went. They offered us to order the French Laundry which was a tomahawk steak, 10-14 oz (mp was $179), you can pre-order this supposedly. No sides with the porterhouse steak. Dessert was lilikoi tapioca pudding which was probably the most disappointing part of the meal. The rest was overall great, just expect to pay for it

Phenomenal. Period. Ignore any and all complaints in the reviews. Yes, it's dark in there which was perfect. Your eyes adapt and you can use the tabletop gas lamps to see the menu. Yes, it's pricey but worth every penny. The ambience, live music, experience, service and food are what you're paying for, so if you can't afford it go somewhere else. Our reservation was pushed back a bit, but it wasn't a big deal. We sat at the bar in the main restaurant and then we got complimentary champagne once inside. Our waiter was incredibly attentive, friendly, conversational and knew the menu intimately. He helped me pair wine with my oysters and lobster and even offered vegetarian modifications for my wife. The sax player was amazing, too! Every server came by to ask how we were and seemed legitimately concerned that we were having a good time. Can't sing this place's praises enough. Highly recommend the oysters paired with Pinot Gris, the lobster risotto (comes topped with a full tail), and the yuzu coconut creme brulee for dessert.

The experience was amaZing, best beef Wellington I’ve had, best steak we’ve had, service was great everyone was so kind and attentive. Jazz music starts at 7 pm and was lovely. The prices were a little high, but would go again.

Love the speakeasy atmosphere. The service was great, thanks Merritt. Not sure if I spelled that right. The food and drinks were very good.

The experience at this speakeasy was amazing. The drinks were delicious and on point. The food was so good. The overall experience was amazing and would definitely go back! With that being said, we didn’t know there was a dress code, as it does not say it anywhere; Especially since it’s inside a pub. Someone from NY visiting, how would you know?? On top of that no one ever said anything about a time limit at the table. We ordered a good amount of food for the prices and 3 rounds of drinks for 3 people. After the 3rd round, they gave us the bill shortly after and then after we paid one of the waiters came up and said I’m so sorry but we have a time limit on the table. Meanwhile I was still drinking my drink AND they said they had people waiting 30 min for their table when there were 2 EMPTY tables in the place and when we walked out no one was waiting. why did you wait until after we paid the bill and tipped to kick us out?! The bill was 400 bucks and we tipped 70 bucks. While we were leaving, they backhanded complimented my friend by saying “thank you for wearing a dress.” Meanwhile it was a bathing suit cover up… the hostess before we sat didn’t even mention us wearing a clothes that didn’t “fit” the setting. Time limits and dress code should be on google or the website. In addition, limits to spending should also be there. When we sat down and ordered, the waiter said “at dinner times they require each person to get their own meal”. Most speakeasys I’ve been to, you go for drinks not for food. So maybe that should be specified also. This place should be a restaurant not a speakeasy if you are required to get food.

Absolutely wonderful experience! Making a reservation and receiving a passcode to enter definitely sets the “Speakeasy” mood and the atmosphere of the restaurant did the rest. The French Laundry was delectable and the Lobster Risotto was just as delicious. Overall the tasteful music, phenomenal food and drinks, and friendly wait-staff/bartender made for an amazing evening.

My first time here. Overall, I liked it. The drink was my favorite part. The oysters were fresh and delicious. The champagne mignonette was tasty. The tako was well prepared. It had good flavor and wasn't chewy. I tried the Mac n cheese, which was a bit watery, not creamy or cheesy. The creme brulee was burnt. We went early, so it wasn't packed yet. It is a small space with limited seating. Leaving you walk through the pub which was packed and hard to shuffle through the crowd to exit. Very different ambience.

This is a wonderful spot, a hidden gem in Kailua. Reservations are required. The space is dark and cozy with a true speakeasy feel. The service here was impeccable. The food was fantastic, and the presentation was unlike anywhere else I have been. It was truly an exceptional evening.

This is a hidden gem. From looks on the outside, you would never expect this dining experience. Had the waygu steak sampler, loster bucatini, beef wellington, and scallops. All cooked and tasted amazingly. Music from a single sax & flute just adds to this speakeasy atmosphere. It's a bit pricey but worth a try.

Very cool private place for a date. Something different. Drinks and menu were pricey, bit worth experiencing the place.

This is the top culinary experience in Kailua. Nothing else comes close. If you are looking for the absolute best, this is it. Service is top notch, Merit, the manager is absolutely amazing and made excellent recommendations, service is above and beyond. Scallops (excellent) carpaccio (excellent) Wagyu filet special entree (out of this world), snow crab (garlic butter perfection) beef Wellington (excellent) the daou reserve wine absolute perfection with Wagyu and beef Wellington. Cheesecake is a must (excellent) Great ambiance and music, I absolutely love this speakeasy. Must make reservation ahead of time and there is a dress code for men. 2.2% discount if paid by cash.

Gaslamp is spectacular! The service was exceptional and the bartender took time to describe the menu in detail and answered all our questions. The cocktails were great, the food was great, the experience was great. If you want craft cocktails and delicious food this is the place. If you want a quick place to grab a drink or two, this isn't the right place since there is a $30 per seat minimum for food.

I went to this cute little place with my girlfriends. I don't know why but I was expecting it to be bigger. The jazz man left right as we came in at 1030pm We were really sad about that. It was very neat in there but I could NOT see anything. I had to hold the menu up to the light to read it. I ordered the drink that came in the skull which I was very much looking forward to but sadly it was undrinkable. I tried to give it to my friend but she couldn't drink it either. The food was tasty but I'll probably never spend that much on food again in my life. So....all in all i was kind of a fail. I gave it 4 stars because it was quirky and different. Me and my friends had a good time minus the disappointments.

Words and even photos cannot describe this INCREDIBLE place enough. It's a must go! Everything from the pleasant host at the "secret" door, the bar staff, (shout out to Merit and his colleague Tuesday night). Between them they made us feel very comfortable and cozy. They made us delicious cocktails, my favourite was the one with Japanese whiskey with macha..Matcha... something a little different and I also had a glass of the petit syrah with my food which was also very yummy! THE FOOOOOD!! The food itself was a work of art. I chose the "KING ARTHER" beef wellington and coming from the UK I was very excited about it. It was PERFECT. We also tried the steak diane, crabs legs, oysters, clams, lobster tail, fries, max & cheese... It was all a phenomenal experience. Thank You! Cannot wait to go back again soon!

The food, the drinks, the atmosphere was amazing!! Definitely no place to penny-pinch but it was absolutely worth it! I had the ribeye and lobster tail, both were cooked to perfection with roasted garlic infused with rosemary. Also had the charcuterie board and was amazing! Highly recommend this place!

Small, hidden and tucked away inside the Kailua Tavern Bar and Grill. The waitstaff were all very courteous and provided prompt service. The bartenders Clark and Nico were true professionals and all the drinks were expertly crafted. Food was great and the scallops were cooked to perfection. The Siberian caviar was icing on the cake. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Hidden gem in basically in plain sight, close to the heart of Kailua town center. The room is lit primarily by these gas lamps which adds to the vibe of being an intimate private gathering spot. The staff is friendly and attentive and the menu tastes even better than the beautifully written descriptions! The drinks have a wide variety of ingredients and can be customized to fit your tastes. Make your reservations well in advance

What an incredible experience! You will want to be ready to pay for the quality of the experience as well. We have been here twice and each time the bill for a couple was $300+. Yet, the food, ambiance, and service are well worth it. This is a great special occasion spot too. Last night had a live saxophone player as well. I hope to go back soon!

Beautiful and delicious! I had the dealer’s choice for each of my drinks and I was never disappointed. The appetizers and into the entrees were worth the money. Cool little spot and the musician actually joined in with us singing happy birthday with the saxophone.

A wonderful experience if you have a small party and large budget. This place has done an amazing job with the atmosphere and truly makes for an amazing memorable adventure. The food is pricy but didn't disappoint. Hawaii is full of amazing food but presentation and being unique are the challenge. Gaslamp doesn't disappoint. Even if just coming for drinks and apps, the drinks are amazing and totally unique! Very hard to standout in the drink department but they do. Everything is delicious and a talking point in its self.

I cancelled well more than 24 hours and I have proof and they are still going to charge me?’ The better business bureau will be contacted, not only that, the employee in question refused to give me her Id number or any information. I canceled at 5 am this morning prior for a reservation at 9pm the next day. I am unsure who can not calculate math but I will be submitting to the bbb and counting this as a fraud entirely because they are not abiding by their own rules.

Experience ALONE was worth the trip but then the food, oh my God. This place is on another level. Absolutely worth the trip and the price. You will not be disappointed. Whether it be an anniversary, graduation, or any other celebration, this is an excellent place to go for a treat.

From a returning customer: 5/5 for food 5/5 for vibe/ambiance 3/5 service (depending) Normally I’m not a stickler on service but last visit the server seemed new and inadequately trained. He did not know the menu well and answered our questions inaccurately. Our main disappointment was ordering “the yacht” small size based on his description of the price discrepancy. He said the larger one would have 2 levels and include king crab legs but otherwise the same. However we were disappointed to see that there were no tiger shrimp, no poke and just one lobster tail (difficult to share with 3). Also I asked what a few cocktails were like (since we weren’t familiar with the ingredients) and he seemed to read the ingredients list and provide incorrect description of the taste as we later found out. Previously we had amazing service with no complaints but given there are only 2 servers (I think) you’re running a 50/50 chance on a visit!
