Great find! Walked in as they opened to order multiple rounds of nigiri and entrees. The salmon nigiri and chutoro was phenomenal. We were served by Haruka who was fun and helpful. If the turtles nearby disappoint, redeem your day with some delicious food!

The two stars is for the server. She was very nice. The kitchen is very slow and the Ramen really lacked that Ramen salty flavor known of the traditional ramen. Ordered Ramen and salmon nigiri. By the time I was halfway on my ramen the sushi (salmon) didn't came out. Didn't get the sushi since I was almost done with my flavorless ramen. What kind of restaurant takes longer making raw fish sushi than cooking ramen...?!🤷🏽‍♂️ Nothing special here. Go to Rai Rai ramen, for ramen😁, and Genki sushi for sushi.✌🏽 PS I lived in Japan 7 cool years. I think I know my share of Japanese cuisine...🤷🏽‍♂️

Honestly 5 Star Reviews are only for the Sushi. Great Stop for Sushi and Beer. DO NOT come for dinner or order anything besides Sushi from menu. Service was ok, but kitchen was SLOW. Waited an hour after ordering for food. Everything was mis-timed. Main dishes were like warm or dry from sitting. Then why did we wait so long. A kid's meal took the longest, which is saying something. Karaage Chicken tasted like the flavorless batter chips you find at the bottom of a KFC popcorn chicken. To say I was disappointed in comparison to what I paid is an understatement. Look closely at all the reviews here and you will see the pattern. People that order anything in or out that isn't sushi don't have good things to say. Now I can see why. Will not be coming back UNLESS it's for a quick Sushi roll. The rest is a waste. Posted photo is of my dry, flavorless karaage chicken.

We decided to try Tokoname tonight. The food was really good. Generous potions. Friendly staff. Street parking or paid parking lot nearby. They are very good for takeout during the pandemic as well.

Very good sushi rolls! The rolls We’re excellent and awesome (and safe) curbside pickup during Covid-19! We had the Tokoname roll, the Lanikai roll, and the Dragon Roll...all were excellent, the Tokoname roll was our favorite! This is high end, very well made, very satisfying sushi...a little pricier especially for takeout but worth it!!

Great atmosphere, small but cozy! We've been for dinner a few times and the service is amazing, everyone is so nice and pleasant. Oh and the sushi! To die for! And wash it down with Asahi beer 🍻

SO GOOD! What an absolutely fantastic local restaurant for sushi and Japanese food. Everyone working there is incredibly nice, the fish melts in your mouth like buttah, and the tempura batter is light as air and so delicately crispy it makes you appreciate the hard work of everyone at the place.. We randomly stumbled onto it because we were running late after arriving on the island but we will for sure go back here every time we are on island.

Our family loved our meal here. Great, creative selection of rolls but not over the top. Super fresh sashimi. Refreshing mint/lime drinks. Fantastic service with all somehow with a traditional Japanese vibe.

Service and atmosphere was great! Food was not my favorite. Everything tasted super very fishy which I don’t love. Presentation of the food was pretty

Great food and service. We both got the Nagoya bento plate. One with the teriyaki ribeye and furikake salmon, the other broiled saba with tempura shrimp and vegetables. Looked so good forgot to take pictures. But, able capture one our dessert, tempura ice cream, yum! Oh yea, kudos they’ve got the best waitresses.

Consistently the best sushi on the island. I particularly enjoy the dragon roll. The service is nice, with warm hand towels and edamame to start. The prices are reasonable considering the quality is superb. I'll always recommend this place.

This hidden gem is my favorite local restaurant in Hawaii, and one of my favorite Japanese restaurants from New York to California. Very welcoming staff sat our family of 7 as soon as we arrived an hour before closing. Service was fast and fresh. Gyoza was right out of the pan, and my kids agreed it was the best they ever had. Agedashi dofu was excellent with a chef's choice bonus. The steak salad and dragon roll are my top choices. Our Ribeye steak was sizzling on the iron and perfect by our hoity toity Texas standards.

  • 5/5 Matthew A. 4 years ago on Google
Really good! Cold asahi on tap, maki and other rolls excellent. Kids loved it! Service was great. Go early! Tempura and gyoza also delicious. They have creative kids meals, no complaints here! Will def come back

Love the sushi, and teishokus here. The staff is also very friendly. Must try if you're in the mood for some yummy sushi and Japanese food.

The food is good. Portions are on the smaller side like many traditional Japanese restaurants. What's really hurting their rating is the take out service. They lost our order! This isn't the first time we had to wait a long time for our pick up, this is the second time (out of 3 take out attempts). Until they streamline their take out system and are able to meet the pickup times consistently, I suggest dining in. tl;dr: 66% miss rate on take out pick up times; dine in for a better experience.

Delicious. A wonderful haven of cuisine from Japan. Tight menu of dishes clearly perfected over time, great staff. And a solid value for the quality served. Highly recommended.

We are regulars and have had great service from the waitresses. We made reservations online to celebrate or son's 16th birthday and were excited. When we showed up the manger was hostessing and was stressed out. When one of our regular waitress asked the manager if we were alright the manager got rude and said we 'didn't make the reservations right and now she has to figure something out' and loud enough for everyone waiting to hear. After waiting for another 12 minutes she made one of the bus boys come to us and tell us that there's no tables available and all they can offer is the bar seating. I reminded him that we made reservations and he said they can't honor the reservations because things filled up to fast. I asked to talk with the manger and she refused to talk with us. All this happened with my son listening, only wanting to celebrate his birthday. A parents we were very disgusted with how the manager handled this situation. Our family and friends will definitely be avoiding this restaurant from now on.

We enjoyed Tokoname so much we went back three days later. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with great menu suggestions. The special rolls were fantastic. The Nigiri melted in my mouth. I hope to visit Tokoname again some day.

A fantastic place to grab some Japanese cuisine for lunch or dinner. You can't go wrong with an teishoku entree, you will get a good amount of food for it. The service was great and food came out fairly quickly. I recommend this place for a quick bite or a sit-in with a few friends. The average price of eating here with a drink can easily go for $25 or more per person.

This place is awesome! The sake flight, fire cracker shrimp and the Tokoname roll.

Went out for the night to get sushi. Was average, even slightly disappointing, and certainly not worth the price point. Good atmosphere but service was extremely slow and even forgetful more than once.

For the price I expected better quality. Simple sushi rolls, not very creative.

Ordered take out dinner here Friday night 1/8/2021. They said 30 minutes, but we ended up waiting 55 minutes. With a hungry 2 year old and 5 year old. I would have thought after the restaurant slow down, service would be exceptional- but I was wrong. The food was great though!

Ordered take out, tonkatsu combo and miso butter fish. Was told food would be ready in 20min, got there in 25min and picked up without issues. Convenient curbside pick up parking. Drove home immediately (live less than 1 mile away). The worst tonkatsu I've ever had. Pork was super dry, like "microwaved yesterday's refrigerated leftovers for 6mins on high" dry. Not a single piece of either fillet was soft. Visually it looked like translucent plastic and I felt like I was chewing a hard rubber toy (not quite dehydrated enough to be classified as jerky). Breading was american style, hard and matted and not light, fluffy and crisp like panko breading. It tasted like a salt lick, my tongue was raw after 5 pieces. I couldn't tell if it was raw from the salt or because it had the texture of the sawed off end of a 2x4. The sauce was not sweet and savory but tasted like a reduced BBQ sauce where a pound of salt was the only ingredient added to the liquid. I tried to eat it (without the sauce since it was already super salty) because I already spent $46 and wasn't going to drive back to salvage the meal but had to throw the rest of the meal away. It was so tough, dry and tasted awful. The miso butterfish was very tender, bit salty but it was edible and would suit any average person's salt tolerance. My two year old loves salty food (breakfast sausage and bacon are morning staples) and he loves fish (can't get enough mackerel or ahi in him) but he only ate a quarter of the small filet. He's only two so take it for what it's worth, I thought it tasted fine but my taste buds were already assaulted by the tonkatsu so I can't say I actually tasted anything. Would give one star but wanted to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, their chef may be rusty because they aren't cooking as much due to the shut down and take out is never the same as dining in. They have rave reviews so hopefully my experience was not a good representation of their normal quality. I would give them another shot but 7-11's prepped tonkatsu meal was WAY better than what I had tonight unfortunately.

Super expensive for what you get. The sushi rolls are tiny!!! Nickel size in diameter for $12-20 for only 8 pieces.... I dont think so Tokoname. Never again.

  • 5/5 Lisa C. 3 years ago on Google
If you are willing to pay a little more than usual, you will not be disappointed. It is well worth it! My oldest is picky about the sashimi she eats and cannot get enough of it from this establishment. Everything is great. We eat from here 2-3 times a month.

Excellent sushi place. There was a bit of a wait, even with reservations, but nothing more than fifteen minutes. The sushi was very good. I only wish they had more beer offerings, though I'm not surprised in the options they had.
