The Lucknow State Museum is located within the grounds of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Gardens, in Banarasi Bagh. This museum has an extensive collection of archaeological artefacts, coins and paintings. You will also find a wide collection of ancient weapons and musical instruments in the museum. The museum remains open on all days except on Mondays from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm for all visitors.

Really wonderful collection, especially ancient Buddhist and Jain sculpture. The one gallery of Awadh art was closed for renovations (Jan 2023). Definitely worth a few hours. There's a separate building of British imperial statuary which seemed permanently closed. Rs 210 for foreigners. Entry is only via the zoo, which is another Rs 80.

Brilliant Collection. A little Hot inside though, wish they had air conditioners in each room. Every room has a different theme and collections. Lots to learn about different civilizations. The Mummy collection is a Unique experience. To get here, first buy the Zoo entry ticket which is Rs 80 and then an entry ticket to the museum which is ₹20.

Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, is the epicenter of prosperous ethnicity and globally acclaimed Nawabi culture, euphonic tongue and mouthwatering Kababs. Hordes of tourists, all through the year, visit this magnificent city sited on the banks of the river Gomti. Tourist attractions of this place spin around monumental buildings erected by Nawabs, striking gardens and European edifices. The list of attractions for tourists also includes certain magnificent museums that are the mirror of affluent chronicles of prehistoric epoch. The museums in Lucknow have an immense collection of peculiar items, which replicate the well-off culture, and tradition of the bygone times. These museums are treasure-abodes that endow tourists with information of ancient times. Some of the famous museums in Lucknow are: Address : Banarasi bagh, Hazratganj, Central Lucknow Timing : 10:00 AM - 05:00 PM Closed : Monday Lucknow State Museum lucknow state museum The Lucknow State Museum takes the guests to the trip of history and lets the history freaks lost in the primordial times. This museum is extremely impressive with its etchings, decorative arts, woodworks, housing sculptures, paintings, bronze statues from the ancient epoch. The unique artifacts present in this museum are the must see things for all. Some of the major charms of this museum are beautiful painting of landscape from Kalpasutra displaying an elephant rider from sixteenth century, a 17th century jar of wine that bears the name of Aurangzeb Alamgir, and a copy of Harivansha written in Persian language. Moreover, to add on to these eye catchers, there is an Egyptian Mummy and its sarcophagus of 1000 B.C, a Panchmukhi Shivlinga, and a statue of Balarama. There is also a sculpture of Saraswati that forms an essential part of items that are preserved in this museum. Thankyou Please subscribe our channel for more information.. Your local guide RA

Just love this place. Staff was humble and good. All were wearing mask when I arrive. As a museum it contains everything from Ancient History to Modern history. Like Egyptian Mummy, Indian Archeological Artifacts from every states and Some District of Uttar pradesh. It contains Old Artifacts of Buddha, Mahavir, Shivling, all the ancient artifacts which were excavated from sites of Ancient cities buried under soil. In modern history - All coins used by Gupta dynasty (each and every ruler), trade routes etc. Mughal dynasty coins, trade routes, trade partners etc. It also contains a section of Human evolution.

This is a very beautiful place which commemorate the sacrifices of those who fought in the first war for freedom. Also it encompasses two cultures the british and the Indian. Most of the monuments have become ruin but we can still see the marks of bullets and canon ball fires. You can take your young kids around. There's nothing to eat inside. But I'm sure you can take your edible items inside. Just make sure you're not ruining the place. The museum inside the residency also gives us detail information about the first war of Independence in Awadh. There are original paintings of the war, and the copies of letters by Tatya Tope, Nawabs and Rani Lakshmi bai Ji. Must visit place with young kids to make them understand the value of freedom and how it was achieved.

Situated under the area of zoo..Ticket cost Rs 5/- per person..Rs 20/- extra for camera ..Overall Best place to visit with family and friends... Egyptian Mummy is the main attraction ...It was wrapped in cloth and kept within its wooden painted sarcophagus about 300yrs... You will find various ancient models projecting our ancient lives , rare artifacts, stone age artifacts,etc... Its under the area of zoo so you have to take zoo ticket that will cost around Rs-80/- before going to museum ..for museum u need to pay extra Rs 5/-..

The museum was rich with items from different eras of Indian history. However, the history behind many of the items were not written making it hard enjoying those to the fullest. On top of that, the interior and the washrooms could be much cleaner. Installing more fans inside will definitely help in the summer weather.

A versatile mix of Royal and Natural History. This museum has the largest collection of coins from prehistoric to modern era in all of Asia. There are also ancient sculpture displays from early BC years, buddhist and jain artifacts and weapon displays from prehistoric to British era. Download the Uttar Pradesh State Museum app before visiting and you can get access to an electronic guide once you connect to the museum's local WiFi on your visit. All in all, it is worth a visit of 4 hrs if you really want to see and read everything on display. I would suggest starting from the top floor and coming down so you know to time yourself properly.

The museum needs some renovation now especially airconditioning,it was very hot. The artifacts have next to none description and details which makes everyone guess and imagine which is wrong for a museum. The mummy is impossible to observe now,she lies 10 feet far, everyone can see her only from atleast 10 feet distance. What a bummer

Visiting the State Museum in Lucknow was an absolute delight! Stepping into this cultural hub felt like taking a journey through time, and I couldn't have been more impressed with the vast array of artifacts and exhibits on display. The Archaeological Gallery is a treasure trove of ancient wonders. From intricately carved sculptures to exquisite pottery, every artifact tells a story of Lucknow's rich history and civilization. Walking through this gallery felt like unraveling the mysteries of the past, and I was captivated by the sheer beauty and craftsmanship of each piece. The Mummy Gallery was a fascinating experience unlike any other. Seeing the remarkably preserved mummies up close was both eerie and awe-inspiring. The museum did an excellent job of providing informative insights into ancient Egyptian culture and burial practices, making the experience educational and memorable. What struck me the most about my visit to the State Museum was the overwhelming sense of positiveness it instilled in me. Despite being surrounded by artifacts from centuries ago, there was an undeniable feeling of connection and appreciation for the past. It was a reminder of how far we've come as a society and the importance of preserving our cultural heritage for future generations. I highly recommend visiting the State Museum in Lucknow to anyone interested in history, archaeology, or simply looking to gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. It's a truly enriching experience that will leave you feeling inspired and enlightened.

The Residency, also called as the British Residency and Residency Complex, is a group of several buildings in a common precinct in the city of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. It served as the residence for the British Resident General who was a representative in the court of the Nawab. The Residency is located in the heart of the city, in the vicinity of other monuments like Shaheed Smarak, Tehri Kothi and High Court Building. It was constructed during the rule of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan II, who was the fifth Nawab of the province of Awadh (British spelling Oudh). Construction took place between 1780 and 1800 AD. Between 1 July 1857 and 17 November 1857 the Residency was subject to the Siege of Lucknow, part of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The Residency now exists as ruins.

The place is very glorified to see, there is a nominal ticket entry value for money, the walls reflect the struggle about freedom movement , a well green place including parks and gardens for people to have a walk and meetings. Also, the place is very good to enjoy quality time with friends , family and favourable to couples. There is a museum inside which closes at 5, I couldn't see.

Nice place to visit. A very peacfull experience i have . But only one thing i regret that there are one source of drinking water that never work. And they should allow to take photo inside the Museum. Just need little bit clean and that's it.

This is a small museum converted from the one of the original buildings used by the britishers in 1850s. There are drawings, portraits, pictures, letters and lothographs along with some broken China taking you back in the time of the first battle for independance in 1857.

It's a very calm place between some very noisy streets. I surfed some parts less than 2 hours but recommend you pay 3 hours at least for this huge garden buildings sight. The entrance fee for tour guides can be free if u bargain well :) but for museum building not sure !

Memorial Museum, Residency contains the memories of the 1857AD war and the Britishers lifestyle how they lived luxurious life at that time . Whereas, the public of the Awadh region lived very pitiable life. The Museum shows many signs which witnessed the war of 1857AD.

With the price of ₹10 for the ticket for Indians, the place is a perfect visit for the people who love history and would like to know more about it. You must visit it once if you come to Lucknow or live in Lucknow already. The ambience is great, the place is well established, collection of the artefacts, coins and valuables is good enough. It has great evidences of the history and archeological finds of the Awadh region.

It has a lot about our history and lot to read and learn for the people interested... My personal favourite is the mummy section ancient coin and wild animal taxidermy.

  • 2/5 Pankaj T. 2 years ago on Google
Not much to see in the museum, only attractions of historical significance are the mummy and and jain idols. These has been no attempt to make this museum attractive for visitors apart from the mummy enclosure. Taxidermied animals are on the top floor, there are hardly any directions posted in the museum. You have to figure out where you are supposed to go.

The state museum that is located within the Lucknow Zoo is another key attraction you can include in your Lucknow itinerary. The major exhibits here include artifacts related to Awadhi arts and culture and several excavated antiquities from regions in and around the city. This four-storied building also contains an Egyptian mummy and a wooden sarcophagus.

Very informative. Historical collection is good. The place needs renovation and cleanliness needs to be maintained. Sections shall be arranged and organized in chronological order and shall provide a chained experience for the user. Currently, lot of debris is collected in and around the build and needs serious planning and careful execution of plans to make it rich in user experience.

Good museum present at the nawab ali shah Zoological garden . Ticket price is only 10 rupees and it is worth. Various sections of things are present here . From antique to modern . Egypt section was nice having real mummy . Other sections like metal, coins and varoius medal section . Varoius antique pottery are present . Things related with the nawabs of Lucknow are also present their sword and all this stuff . So next time you visit zoo must take a look of the state museum .

  • 3/5 Ayushi S. 1 year ago on Google
Museum is a 3/5 if you are interested in ancient stone sculptures then this is the place but it mostly holds sculptures of god and goddess from as old as harappa civilization and i observed mostly the statues were from mathura, there's also coins collection from British to mugal rule, you'll also find a lot of Buddha and Jain god and stone sculptures. There's also some highlights one Egyptian culture and a preserved mummy. Overall if you like museum you should visit them once, fees of entry in museum is ₹10 and for the zoo is ₹80

This is a very good and big museum which tells us our history, biological development of human, life cycle of animals etc. It contains our historical weapons and defending equipments, various types of guns and javelin, structure of fort of the kings. This place also contains budh picture gallery, Egyptian picture gallery which tells us about the Egyptian history. You should definitely visit this place, to see our history . This museum is under nawab wazid alli Shah Zoological park.

  • 4/5 Jayati C. 10 months ago on Google
Though parts of the museum were under renovation, this place housed inside the Zoological garden premise holds a lot of information . Artefacts from the stone age, to the metal era, contributions from Buddhism, Jainism era, Egyptian mummies and heiroglyphs, are all spending a couple of hours at least . Some of the information cards could have used dual language though . There is also a folk art museum right behind it, which displays the culture and contributions from four regions, bhojpur, brij, bundelkhand and ruhelkhand . Life like statues show folk dance forms, rituals etc.

  • 2/5 Kaushik S. 8 months ago on Google
This place has huge potential. It's in a heritage building and has a lot of ancient sculptures. But the display is horrible and half the galleries are closed. Their is no air-conditioning. So it gets too hot and sweaty inside. The entry is through the zoo . So you need to buy two tickets -1 for the zoo and the other for the museum. There is a folk museum about various regions of uttar Pradesh within the same complex. That building is like a defunct run down place. It has interesting displays but very poorly maintained. Some of the rooms did not even have lights. I was hoping for something like the national museum in Delhi/patna museum since this is the state museum in lucknow. Hopefully govt takes notice and cleans this place up.

Must visit place in Chidiyaghar. Statues of Buddhist Era are marvellous. Also watching real Egyptian Mummy is a mesmerising experience because there are only 4 Mummy in India, out of which 1 is in State Museum.

Not good as aspected museum is only for little kids . Yes there is a real mummy of a woman no idea where is it found. Alot of stairs to be steps to see a little knowledgeable article of old age but the zoo is best to see

That's good. Cleaning and environment is good. But one guide is necessary to stand in every room for explain about the things. That's much batter for public and museum.

  • 3/5 SMRITI S. 4 months ago on Google
Beautiful but poorly maintained.. the Egyptian section is nice. The rest of the showcases miss a good narration when you navigate through them. As a visitor I felt disconnected since there was no story behind the pieces showcased
