Thus place is the witness of a great history. Pitamah bhishma was on baan shaiya when he was hit by the arch of Arjuna. After battle, lord bhishma asked for water due to thirst. Arjuna hit an arch to the land and gangaji appeared to kill the thirst of pitamaha. Hence this place is called "Bhishma Kund". This is must visit place if you are in Kurukshetra but it is maintained poorly. Local authorities should focus on maintenance.

Banganga, Narkatari, Kurukshetra Banganga is located at Narkatari, Thanesar in Kurukshetra in Haryana State of India. This is the spot where the Ganges water sprouted from under the ground when Arjuna shot an arrow to bring forth water to quench the thirst of Bhishma Pithamaha. The name of the spot is derived from this episode. Baan means Arrow and Ganga means Ganges. Bhishma is considered as the son of Goddess Ganges who came to quench the thirst of her son at this spot before he gave up his life as per his desire. There is a small temple built at this spot and it has idol of Bhishma lying on a bed of arrows. Write up compiled by Viswas Menon Photos by Viswas Menon © Viswas Menon

This site was excavated by Shri B.M.Pandey[1] of Archaeological Survey of India. has revealed antiquities related to at least six cultural and historical periods starting from first century AD to 19th, A few painted 'Grey Ware' shreds were found in the pre-Kushana levels. Associates with the post-Gupta period include polished redware.[2] Several brick structures discovered from the mound also belong to these two periods. Some structural remnants of the Indo-Islamic period including a garden complex and some antiquities of various periods have also been found. Harsh Ka Tila can prove to be a happy hunting ground for archaeological enthusiasts. The stairs inside might've been built later on, the Chamber in it is quite wide and spherical on the top.[3] Just as compartments are created for horses in the stable, Delhi's zoo comprises a similar structure for the elephants.

The archaeological excavations of this site have thrown significant light on successive remains of an ancient city settlement. The site spread over an area of 1kmx750 m. This site was excavated by Shri B.M.Pandey of Archaeological Survey of India. A few potsherds of Painted Grey Ware found from the lowest level of the site indicate the existence of a settlement before starting a continuous habitation at the site since Christian era. The excavated material ranging from Circa 1st century AD to 19th century was divided in six cultural periods.

It’s a cute little town away from the tourists. There was at the end of the town w a few temples, a square under a tree w a few senior citizens. They were so hospitable and welcoming. This is the actual place where Bhishmajiblaid on the arrows. That is the reason the place is called Bhan ganga.

An ancient Indian site, a small kingdom, yet again plundered by Mughals. We can see flowers and other ancient Indian carvings on the walls, but a "makbara" is made somewhere. Carbon dating should be done, and history should be written properly.

Baan Ganga, a holy place related to Mahabhart, is situated at Thanesar in Kurukshetra of Haryana. It is believed to be the place where Arjun shot an arrow (Ban) in the ground and letting out a water spring (Ganga) to quench Pitamaha Bhishma's thirst. The place is nicely maintained. Premise is beautiful. It is a prominent pilgrims’ as well as tourists’ attraction in Kurukshetra.
