Amazing Hospital and its services is always found excellent for me. I was suffering from CKD (kidney) since 2011-2015 but later on I had done my kidney transplant in Max Hospital Mohali Chandigarh. I went IGMC & Hospital so many times when I was in emergency. The all concerned department has got highly professional doctors and skilled staff. I would also appreciate SRL lab they are serving excellent services, best quality and rates. The cleanness of overall areas in very well maintained. The only things needs to be improvement i.e Registration office, Chemist shops, Canteen and indoor unwanted public crowed.

I wish I could give them negative stars!!! I lost my father to covid at this pathetic hospital in May 2021. Still can’t believe that even after being so tech savvy, I trusted the doctors here and my father being a Himachali himself, travelled all the way from Delhi to Shimla along with my mother who was also covid positive. He insisted that he only trusts doctors in himachal, he had so much faith in this hospital. I still can’t believe that senior doctors didn’t even visit the ward to understand the condition of patients. My father developed a covid pneumonia, struggled to get his oxygen cylinder fixed, plumbers were fixing those, imagine!!! His body turned blue, he was beating his chest in pain, my mother cried, shouted only to get a yelling from the staff. All this happened at night, ofcourse no senior doctors were present at that time. Doctors shouted on my covid positive mother, then gave an injection to him which kept him alive for mere 10 minutes. And he was gone!!! A healthy man 55 years of age, never hospitalised in his life ! I regret so much, I should I have read the reviews before, I couldn’t meet him for two years due to lockdown and lost him within just 5 days of his illness. He did not deserve to suffer like this, I will never ever forgive IGMC Shimla for taking my father away from me. 1. The staff is not well experienced in covid wards. 2. There is no one to look after patients, plumbers fix the oxygen cylinders!! 3. Staff is extremely rude with no compassion for human life. Senior doctors won’t even come near you if you are covid positive. 4. The treatment for covid is very generic, critical patients are not given the care required. 5. Doctors will form groups if something will go wrong to intimidate the patient who just lost his close family member due to their ignorance. 6. Patient will have to wait for 8+ hours for the doctors. 7. No one is there to listen to your problem. For gods sake, never ever send your loved ones to this hospital. I still regret the day, it kills me everyday, can’t even imagine the pain my father had to go through :(

Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), formerly the Himachal Pradesh Medical College (HPMC), is a state-owned medical college and hospital in Shimla in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. It was established in 1966 as the Himachal Pradesh Medical College (HPMC), and assumed the present name in 1984. On 29 June 2013, Himachal Pradesh Health minister Kaul Singh Thakur said that Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) would be upgraded on the analogy of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Sewa Yojana, (PMSSY). Thakur revealed about his meeting with Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and the proposal for granting the AIIMS status to IGMC was under consideration of the government of India. Thakur added that the endeavour of the state government was to develop IGMC as a prestigious institute so that it can provide qualitative and better health services to the people of the state.

OPD timings: 9:30 am to 4 pm. Check the schedule on the hospital website by clicking on Patient Care Services > OPD Inquiry. Unfortunately, the timings of each department is not mentioned. For example, I came to know at the hospital that the nephrology OPD is open from 2 to 4 pm. Of course, be prepared for long queues and a lot of waiting. And running around to get syringes, sterile containers etc. if some diagnostic tests need to be carried out. Take along a bottle of drinking water and something to eat. All the beds in the emergency room were occupied when I went there. If you need to visit the hospital in an ambulance, call 108; it’s a free service. To return home in an ambulance, ask for one at the desk at Block A ground floor (it’s opposite the emergency department). They will provide a Maruti Omni-type van and you’ll have to pay the ambulance driver for this service. You can hire a (dirty) stretcher at the same desk if you need one to move the patient around the hospital. It’s a free service but you have to pay a ₹100 security deposit to make sure you return the stretcher. The two chemist shops at Block A ground floor accept only cash, not UPI or digital wallets.

It's like AIIMS of Himachal Pradesh. A huge load of patients on a few doctors. Certain doctors are only available on specific days so it's really tough to get facilities like private hospitals. But it is one of the best hospitals available in Himachal Pradesh.

I recently had an exceptional experience at Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital in Shimla's emergency ward. My sister was in severe pain with a stomach ache, and we were short on time as she had an exam at 11 am. The doctors were not only caring and cooperative but also incredibly efficient. They provided prompt care, diagnosed her condition, and ensured she received the necessary treatment without delay. Their empathetic approach and clear communication put us at ease. What stood out was their commitment to each patient's well-being. They recognised the urgency of our situation, ensuring my sister made it to her exam on time while receiving proper medical attention. The hospital's dedication to patient satisfaction was evident throughout the visit. In summary, Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital delivers exceptional care in their emergency ward. If you need prompt, compassionate, and efficient healthcare in Shimla, this hospital is the ideal choice.

Its too crowded. There is no patients parking space . Thought there is a huge parking space for doctors. There is a park next to doctors parking. It feels that a parking space for patients and their attendants was not sp important after all.

Its a good hospital and has a huge campus but the thing is the ratio of patients to beds is more . Bharat is an overpopulated country and this happens everywhere across country in government hospitals . Beds and doctors are less compared to number of patients.

As a public hospital in India you’re constantly stretched and expanded. This hospital in Shimla has top professionals who provide great treatments with empathy. It would be packed and expect long queues and waiting time in every department. Don’t expect it to similar to a private facility.
