The Bougainvillea

Bed and breakfast

😠 We were greeted by a comment about our race me being caucasian my partner asian. "Very controversial, These days" said twice ! Ignored but set the mood as uncomfortable from the beginning. The room was very dark with zero natural light, also with a damp musty cave like smell. The toilet drain also... The pics shown online are a mere eyewash. Rooms were having very shabby smell. Basic amenities like electric sockets and geysers in bathroom were not working. Rooms are very small in size too. Not a single light was kept on in the night. The place was very scary type in night. We took all six or seven rooms as a whole group seeing the common place like Garden sitting area after seeing in the pics but found it all mess. The manager is to be called only from mobile to mobile as no other way of communicating is there and that too he will pick the call at his own wish. And then we had to go to his room and knock the doors to see to our issues. Worst part is the attitude of the owners. No ears to the problems raised. While leaving all ladies in the group were carrying their luggage to the main gate and their manager cum care taker was just sitting in the lobby seeing them and did not have the courtesy to offer help. . The owner hersef came out and appeared to reading some paper but no goodbye . The place made our amritsar visit a worst experience. We stayed in januaty .

I would've rated it in the negative if given an option. The place and the people managing it are an absolute nightmare. The manager is too ignorant to look after the people who have paid money to stay. The beauty that is visible in the pictures is a cloak to the suffocation one feels in the property. Rooms are too small with zero ventilation. You will feel choked up with the weird smell in every room. The garden is an absolute mess if you think you could sit there comfortably. The top floor of the property looks like a haunted mansion. The manager switched off the lights that led to the top floor giving it an even creepier vibe. When we expressed our dissatisfaction to the owner, she snapped at us like we did something wrong. The property is too overpriced for the stay of quality. My Amritsar experience was ruined because of this uncomfortable stay. I had a horrible experience and I would not suggest this place to anyone.

We were greeted by a comment about our race me being caucasian my partner asian. "Very controversial, These days" said twice ! Ignored but set the mood as uncomfortable from the beginning. The room was very dark with zero natural light, also with a damp musty cave like smell. The toilet drain also smells very strong. The place has the feeling you are under scrutiny all the time with no where to escape. We also asked to cancel our last night giving over 30hrs notice. Despite the guest house being empty (only one other family staying) the owner refused to allow us to cancel and insisted on full payment. A greedy and unnecessary way to act. Far from the center and attractions, overall we were just glad to leave If you don't like sunlight, like to be made to feel uncomfortable this place is for you! More of a 1000 a night place ! Breakfast timing: 9:30am. Unfortunately the Star Cook comes at 8am and readies the breakfast by 9:30am. We wanted to have early breakfast at 8:15 am but there was no such option. Owners were rude. Basic courtesy of saying hello to the guests was also missing. Definitely not worth the price.

The Bougainvillea offers a delightful stay with exceptional service. The host is incredibly accommodating and always ready to assist with a welcoming demeanor. The picturesque ambience adds to the overall comfort of the experience.

As Amritsar if filled with standard or pillgrim hotels, The Bougainvillea stays apart. This bed and breakfast will make you feel at home with a small garden and nice bohemian atmosphere. The team is friendly and delivers a perfect service. All this close to the old town but in a quiet lane. A sure choice.

If I had to (re)name Bougainvillea Homestay, I'd probably call it The Secret Sanctuary. Because, that's what this little gem is .... a delightful respite from the hustle & bustle of Amritsar. Located about 50m off the busy Mall Road, Bougainvillea Homestay envelopes you in its quiet calm as soon as you walk into the gates & are welcomed by the wonderful hosts Payal & Sham. The rooms are comfortable & cozily done. Mine had a huge four poster bed with soaring bedposts, delicate curtains & a snug quilt. Bathrooms are simple but clean. The best part is that the rooms are quite independent - opening onto lovely patios & lush courtyard gardens with multiple sitting arrangements, so you don't have to be always confined to your own room. Guests can enjoy their own space without always intruding into the family areas (not that you aren't welcome). For bookworms like me, there are well thumbed books all around the property & many comfortable places to sit & enjoy them. Don't miss the chance to enjoy a typical Amritsari breakfast here & if the weather permits, do have it outdoors. The very elegant owner of Bougainvillea, Payalji, has a green thumb & a knack of using the most unassuming things as planters which gives a rather bohemian charm to the property. And, if you want to know anything about Amritsar- from sightseeing to shopping to the best local places to eat, Shamji is the person to ask. The one thing about Amritsar that I can never tire of (other than a visit to the Golden Temple, of course) is the food. I know a longing for it is going to pull me back frequently so I'm glad to know that I'll have a place to call home in Amritsar.

Overall, my experience was the worst I had during my trip to India. The room and the bathroom were very dirty, even the facilities in the bathroom were broken. It looks like the owners are trying to save money instead of offering great experience for their guests. There was no hot water when we arrived because the heater was not turned on, so we needed to wait some time for the water to come. Moreover, there was humidity in the room, and all clothes became wet from the first day. Everywhere in India, the hotels offer free bottled drinking water, only in this one the water was not. If you should take a rest from the busy day of your trip, this is not your hotel.

A peaceful stay in very comfortable accommodation. Everything was clean and the shower was nice and hot. Breakfasts were absolutely delicious and we enjoyed trying some home cooked Punjab food. One particular favourite for me was the Gargal Pickle - yummy. The hostess helped to organize our taxi to see the border ceremony - an entertaining event! As the B&B was a good walk away from the busy centre it was nice and quiet. There are restaurants nearby, though we didn't visit any, and plenty of tuktuks at hand. Sometimes we felt customer service could have been a little friendlier but overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.

Very neat and clean place. The interior is done quite thoughtfully. I loved the way every corner in beautifully decorated. The hosts are very kind, hospitable and helpful. We were 23 people but never faced a single issue. Very good breakfast. Overall it’s a very nice place for staycation or vacation. I would highly recommend.

This is an oasis in Amritsar. Beautifully decorated with an eclectic mix. Payal and her staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Both breakfast and dinner were super.

The stay was not upto the mark that I was charged. The bed had hairs in them, I think the sheets were not changed when I was given the room, the bed headboard had white mould which showed how unkept the place was. Also the caretaker Hans will be unreachable always, tried calling him 7 times and yet he'd be busy. I think this is a poor stay for such a hefty charge.

The property was excellent… The deluxe room is mot as worth but i upgraded for the second night suite with garden view The room was cozy had a good vibe all over Had a good time spending half of my night at the garden only. Cleanliness was upto the mark. Stayed here with my family in early December, 2021. We loved every aspect of the place. The rooms and bathrooms are simple but all very clean and welcoming. The outside seating areas are beautiful. Payal is a wonderful host. She recommended some great restaurants to us and helped us book reliable cabs. Hans who works at the property is a sweetheart and always willing to help with everything. If you're used to the luxuries of a hotel then this may not be for you (my parents took some time to warm up to the place) but if you're okay giving that up then this is the perfect place to stay!

Beautiful property and lovely home food. We booked two rooms and stayed for two nights. The hosts are very gracious infact Payal even went out of her way to arrange for courier services as I had to send a parcel. Loved her home made tangerine drink. Thanks a lot for ur excellent hospitality. The staff is very courteous and sweet. Will surely stay again whenever next in Amritsar.

Impeccable rooms, redone very tastefully. It’s a heritage property with lot of character. Really enjoyed chatting with the owners also, who spoke very passionately about their hometown and their house. Same passion reflects in every nook and corner of the property.

Very friendly welcoming house, dinner and breakfast was delicious. Comfortable, spacious rooms. We arrived earlier than check In time and they allowed us to leave our baggage there and rest in the common areas. It was a hot day and aunty specially served her delicious home made squash to me and my parents. It’s small gestures like these that make homestays such an attractive option for travellers.

Lovely home stay, we stayed there for 3 days with our cousins and had an amazing time!! We hardly left the property, just relaxed there and everything was organized for us. The place has an old school charm but all modern comforts. We will definitely revisit for our next reunion of family and cousins.

The house is beautiful and well-kept, the owners are kind and accommodating. We booked the whole house for a few intimate ceremonies during our wedding and it felt like home but without any hassles of having to organizing anything. They let us decorate the place with flowers and even organized live music for us. Some beautiful wedding memories with our loved ones, thanks to Bougainvillea.

When it comes to hotels/homestays and restaurants, warm hospitality is something I look forward to the most ! At Bougainvillea the staff is warm and welcoming, the property too is nice, please bear in mind that you'll be parking your vehicles outside the property here, if in Amritsar, I would recommend this for bed and breakfast.
