The
Monument
to
Fishermen
and
the
Monument
to
Nicholas
the
Wonderworker
are
two
monuments
in
Kaliningrad
that
form
a
single
ensemble.
The
monuments
are
located
on
the
corner
of
Krasnoyarskaya
Street
and
Peter
the
Great
Embankment
(on
the
banks
of
the
Pregolya
River,
next
to
the
Museum
of
the
World
Ocean).
The
monument
to
fishermen
(Pioneers
of
Ocean
Fishing)
was
erected
in
Kaliningrad
in
1978.
The
monument
is
a
concrete
structure
in
the
form
of
two
sails
of
a
fishing
schooner
(according
to
another
version,
in
the
form
of
two
palms).
On
the
western
side
of
the
stylobate
there
is
an
inscription
made
of
bronze
letters:
“To
the
pioneers
of
ocean
fishing.”
On
the
eastern
wall
there
is
a
dedication
“To
the
blessed
memory
of
the
fishermen
who
died
at
sea.”
The
epitaph
is
complemented
by
a
soaring
bronze
seagull
-
the
eternal
companion
of
seafarers.
The
monument
is
dedicated
both
to
the
pioneers
of
ocean
fishing
and
to
the
fishermen
who
died
at
sea.
It
has
the
status
of
a
historical
monument
of
municipal
significance.
In
2008,
the
dilapidated
monument
was
restored
and
re-opened
for
City
Day
on
September
12.
On
December
23,
2009,
a
monument
to
St.
Nicholas
the
Wonderworker
was
erected
in
front
of
the
monument
to
the
fishermen,
so
both
monuments
now
form
a
single
ensemble.
The
grand
opening
of
the
reconstructed
memorial
complex
took
place
on
July
8,
2010.
