In memory of Mikhail Ivanovich Kalinin, in July 1946, Koenigsberg was renamed Kaliningrad. A square and an avenue in Kaliningrad are also named after Kalinin. The monument to M. Kalinin was erected in 1959 near the South Station. There is a bronze figure on a pedestal depicting the coat of arms of the Soviet Union. The sculptor B. Edunov and the architect A. Gulyaev worked on the monument.

A small square located between the South Station and the post office. A quiet corner for walks and photo sessions. In spring, nightingales sing romantically in the park and hawthorn trees bloom. In summer, the square is filled with the aroma of jasmine and warm pine needles. Unfortunately, there are no benches now, so most often visitors simply sit down on the steps.

Born in the Upper Trinity of the Tver province (now the Kashinsky district of the Tver region), in the peasant family of Ivan Kalinovich Kalinin (1855-1907). Russian.[5] Young Kalinin graduated from the primary zemstvo school, after which he entered the service of his neighbor, the landowner D. P. Mordukhai-Boltovsky. In 1889 he was taken to St. Petersburg and worked for him as a footman, which allowed him to read many books from the master’s library. In 1893 he became an apprentice at the St. Petersburg Cartridge Factory, and in 1895 he became a turner at the Putilov Factory, where he participated in illegal circles[6]. Kalinin’s childhood and youth are described in the book by Maria Prilezhaeva, “From the Shores of the Bear”[7]. In July 1899, together with other members of the Marxist circle he organized, he was arrested and, after a 10-month prison sentence, deported to Tiflis. There he continued his revolutionary activities as part of the central group of the Tiflis Social Democratic organization, for which he was again arrested and in March 1901 exiled to Revel. There he worked for about a year as a turner[8] at the Volta plant and organized an underground printing house. In 1902, Kalinin went to work in the Tallinn railway workshops. In the same year, he united all Tallinn Marxist circles into a social democratic organization led by the Central Workers' Circle.

This is our story! I am proud that I was born in a beautiful city. I love every corner of not only Kaliningrad, but the entire region. Now I live in Yaroslavl, also a beautiful city, where my children and grandchildren were born. I rate the Kalinin monument 5 stars.
