1980s is one of the most popular restaurants in Kalpetta and is located right by the bye pass road. It is an old tharavadu house used as a restaurant with a look and feel that takes you back in time. The food was good a d prices reasonably. There is ample parking space available by the road side. Being an old building you will find issues like wash room and rest rooms not being available at convenient place and not enough.

This cozy restaurant has left the best impressions! Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, beautiful presentation and list goes on! Menu is extensive and seasonal to a particularly high standard. Waiters are very attentive, friendly and kind. The food can’t get better and the prices are fair for the portion size. Everything on their menu worth a try. A must visit for everyone and I’m definitely going back here.

Absolutely loved this cafe! The nostalgic ambiance, crafted by turning a house into a cafe, is simply brilliant. The concept is unique and adds to the charm. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. If you prefer, you can also enjoy your time outside sitting area. The location is perfect, making it one of the popular go-to places around.

Such a gorgeous place to enjoy a meal. Quaint old place still holding the charm of the old times. Parking available just outside. We had biryani and the meal with some beef fry. The biryani had a bit of sweetness because if raisins and the meat was cooked to perfection. All the sides in the sadya were finger licking good. The food was scrumptious with a home feel. We ended it with the best lemon tea. Totally worth the price and a must visit to enjoy good food. ❤️

A classical example for an over priced and over hyped restaurant. First of all, they don't have a menu card. Ordered mix chattichoru, loves the variety and number of items, however none of the items were warm. Also, no gravy items were given. Buttermilk & payasam were served in an ultra small bowl. Ambience is good, a traditional house is converted to a restaurant and maintained well. Outdoor seating is available, in a tent. Food is decent, nothing great about and not all worth the amount...

Wonderful taste! There is a waiting time of 10-15 minutes before they take you to your seat - which is a wide table. We chose for banana leaf meals. The Sadhya was delicious! We absolutely loved it. Beef fry was perfect. Would highly recommend giving this a try if you're in Wayanad.

We had dinner at the 1980's restaurant during a family trip to Wayanad in Kerala. Due to time constraints, we dropped in here for dinner on the eve of 24 December around 8 pm. The place was packed with people. There was an overflow of crowd. Lucky for us the management was managing the crowd with tokens. After 30 minutes of waiting, we got to our table. The entire place was furnished to give the visitors a rustic feeling. The interiors were well done. On checking with the waiter, the place was famous for Malabar cuisines We ordered Kerala parota, nice pattiri, ghee rice, chicken masala and beef roast. We were in for a surprise. The parrot was a little thick and we thought it may not be tasty but was mistaken. The pattiri was really soft and very nice. The chicken masala was a very different combination of spices and gravy. It came with 3 big pieces. The beef roast was the star of the day. The meat was cooked to perfection with the perfect blend of hotness and spices and went well with the ghee rice. After dinner, we had lemon tea at the tea shop located outside and it was really good. It is the perfect place for good food with a traditional setup.

1980’s Nostalgic, indeed a visit here was nostalgic. Food and service is good. Must try fish curry and the best of Malabar paratha. I loved the coffee here and weather as usual was awesome.. evening time view is great and the place is located on highway. Ample of parking space available. No valet. You get those candies here from the old time.. there’s tea and spice shop too… loved the place and would visit again

Read the name carefully. 1980's a nostalgic restaurant. The ambience is great. An old family home, retained and run as a restaurant. The overall experience was not upto the hype. There is no menu. We had meals, beef fry, fish curry, and a biryani. Meals is served on a plantain leaf. I had to actually explain to the waiter why i liked to wash my leaf before I ate. To top it all, the food was cold. As in the rice was cold, beef was cold, and the fish curry was also cold. Reason there is a massive rush because of the holidays. But then, shouldn't the food be made fresh. The taste was average. Service leaves much to be desired. The place is reasonably priced. Could have been a much better experience. So, read the name carefully. 1980s Nostalgia. STOP

I rarely get emotional when i eat out.. Probably its because I keep thinking that i can do better. This is the first time in years I had tears while eating. The food is fantastic.. Touches your soul, the balance of flavors . The experience of each bite was a heavenly experience. Thanks to the people who made this possible.. If i could give 10 stars ⭐ i would.. You'll have to wait your turn. But believe me it worth every sec of your wait.. I had the humbe veg meals with beef fry... And i want to come back for more.

I loved it, after coming here I was dying to taste actual Kerala food but was missing such for a long time but FINALLY. 💗 Also, you'll only love it if your taste buds die to taste authentic cuisines, not if you only want things you'd love to eat. The hospitality is beautiful too , we wanted to buy a few things from the shop as well but it was Friday , so most people go to mosque there and the shop was closed too and getting an auto was difficult as well. So make sure to visit another day but Friday Else Beautiful. I wish I had more time to sit and soak it all , hopefully someday I'll come again.

Good place for a quick meal. Situated on the main road with ample free parking. Gives a rustic ambience. The interiors are not lit properly even in the day time. So it's difficult to move around. The washrooms are not well maintained. The staff is good and the service is fast. Although everyone is not a local and they should provide a menu for tourists who don't have any idea about the local food. The food was decent both in quality and quantity. The sadhya is time specific and one needs to appear at the correct meal time to get one.

If you're looking for an authentic Kerala dining experience, 1980's A Nostalgic Restaurant is the place to go. The food is simply delicious, and the service is impeccable. I had the pleasure of dining at 1980's last week with my friends, and we were all blown away by the food. The dishes we tried including the beef roast, fish curry, and parotta, nice pathiri and the chicken 65 were excellent. The restaurant itself is also very charming. It's located in a traditional Kerala house, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The staff is very friendly and attentive, and they go out of their way to make sure you have a great dining experience. If you're ever in Wayanad, be sure to check out 1980's A Nostalgic Restaurant. It's a truly special place, and you won't be disappointed. Here are some of the things I loved most about the restaurant: The food is absolutely delicious. It's clear that the ingredients are fresh and of the highest quality. The menu is extensive, with a wide variety of Kerala dishes to choose from. The service is impeccable. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The restaurant is located in a traditional Kerala house, and it's decorated with vintage memorabilia. The prices are very reasonable. Overall, I had a fantastic dining experience at 1980's A Nostalgic Restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic Kerala Cuisine.

One of the best restaurants in wayanad. This place brings back all the nostalgic feel. It's been nearly 8 yrs since I visited and last week i went back, the look and feel was the same and that's the speciality of this hotel❤️ Talking about the food, the taste is awesome and they have some signature dishes, especially fish varieties. The place is clean and well maintained. Perfect place to click pics as well. Whenever there is a plan to visit wayanad, a must visit to this hotel is recommended.

Fantastic! Awesome! Lovely! If you want to eat authentic malayali food on a banana leaf with excellent taste and flavours you have to come here! This place was perhaps made in the 1980’s looking at the building. They do not offer wi-fi keeping up with the times that existed in the 1980’s! We ordered thali with prawn fry and chicken curry. Sadly before we came, the crowd was so much that their items started finishing and hence we did not get the fish curries that we had wanted to eat. I am a big big fan of malayali food and this place quenched that desire of malayali food!infact I ate with a word known as over-ate! The chutneys and rasam was superb. Infact everything is superb including the brown rice! The prawn fries were to die for! Excellent taste with the rich red spices! The chicken curry had a hint of coconut and tasted excellent! Loved this place and I would recommend all tourists and visitors to definitely come and try the food here! Simbly superb! 👍👍

One of the popular restaurants in Kalpetta. It is an old house modified into a restaurant. The service is okay, the food tastes good and the ambience matches the place. The staff are polite, but the service is a bit slow.

Excellent place to catch a bite, places gives off authentic tharavad vibes. Endorsed by multiple mollywood celebrities, the head waiter has an excellent memory (remembered us between visits, weeks apart) and caters to your every requirement. Heavily biased towards nonveg although you can get a few good veg food as well at all times. Perfect for a Tea time pit stop on a long ride

Date visited: 7-Apr-23 Since it was a long weekend there was crowd and we had to wait for 20-30 min. The Ambience is very simple and good as it's an old house. This will make you experience to go back in time as if you're eating in olden days.. Coming to the food, it was good, not soo great but definitely not disappointing. It will satisfy your taste buds!

Beautiful restaurant located in kalpetta bypass. It’s kind of an isolated area, so easy to park your car. Very neat and clean. We tried tea/coffee/ beef roast/ nice pathiri, all tasted excellent. I feel like it’s relatively affordable too. Service is fast and pleasant. Full marks to the entire team.

all the food we ordered were delicious and had enough quantity. Pothum Kaal was really good. Even though we reached there by 2:30PM, served food could have been more hot. Management should also think of accommodating larger groups inside the restaurant by making some changes in the seating arrangements. Overall nice experience.

Amazing Kerala cuisine food. Highly recommend their sea food. They also have a vintage setup, no menus, traditional table and chairs. It’s a nice place. One of the best options in Wayanad. Also, something that you might miss is their chai and snacks. Highly recommended as well. It’s brilliant.

A nice option at Kalpetta. Visited twice, once for breakfast and other during lunch. Both of the time, had good experience.Nice ambience.Located outside the busy town on the bypass. Lunch was very good with delicious beef and fish fry (aila/mackerel). Breakfast options are also plenty and was great.

One of the best restaurant I have been to. It is crowded and you got to stay in queue. But the wait is not discouraging. The food was delicious. It is hard to find such a good restaurant around that area. You can see a lot of people standing in queue. We tried almost everything we could from there and everything tasted so malayali. Their biriyani had a unique taste. Trust me it was worth. And the atmosphere itself gives us a nostalgic feel.

What a charming little restaurant. We had the most delightful lunch meal and kept craving for more and possibly would have had more if we weren't so ridiculously full. Each of us had a full meal and then took a plate of fried fish and chicken 65 as sides. The presentation was perfect...the hospitality was extremely warm and welcoming....the wait was practically non existant and the food was spot on delightful

"1980's A Nostalgic Restaurant" in Kerala provides a vintage atmosphere, but taste is average. The diverse menu lacks exceptional flavors, yet the unique theme adds a charming touch to the dining experience.

Food and ambience is greatest as described in any review. But the best part of the experience comes when you talk to their managers/waiters about the food and taste you want. They don't have menu cards available so their conversation with you gives you a best experience ever. They understand english, hindi(few) and malyali

If you're a vegetarian you might find it difficult to find much options in Wayanad. But this place was a saviour for me. Great food, affordable price, very friendly staff. And plus point: retro music playing in the background which just adds to the vibe. They also have a small shop if you wish to grab some local spices and pickles.

My recent dining experience at 1980 left me pleasantly surprised with its delectable dishes and charming, old-world ambiance. As a lover of good food and a penchant for nostalgic settings, this restaurant managed to capture my heart and taste buds. Let's start with the star of the show—the food. I had the pleasure of trying two standout dishes: the beef ullathu and the chicken 65. The beef ullathu was a true masterpiece. The tender, succulent beef cooked to perfection in a blend of aromatic spices created a flavor explosion that delighted my taste buds. It was a harmonious combination of bold and subtle flavors that left me craving for more. The chicken 65, another signature dish was equally impressive. The juicy, marinated chicken pieces were coated in a tantalizing blend of spices and deep-fried to perfection. Each bite was a burst of flavor, with the right balance of heat and tanginess. It was undeniably a crowd-pleaser, and I can see why it is such a popular choice among diners. Beyond the culinary delights, the restaurant's ambiance exuded a charming, old-world feel that instantly transported me to a bygone era. The decor, with its vintage-inspired elements and warm lighting, created a cozy and intimate atmosphere. The attentive and friendly staff added to the overall pleasant dining experience, making me feel welcomed and well-cared for throughout my visit. While some may perceive the restaurant's aged appearance as a drawback, I found it to be a part of its charm. The vintage ambiance added character and authenticity to the dining experience, taking me back to a time when simplicity and flavors took center stage. In summary, my visit was a delightful culinary journey, filled with mouthwatering dishes and a nostalgic ambiance that transported me to another time. The beef ullathu and chicken 65 were exceptional, showcasing the chef's expertise in creating memorable flavors. The old-world charm of the restaurant added a unique touch to the overall experience, making it a truly enjoyable and memorable dining destination. I highly recommend 1980 to all food enthusiasts who appreciate a taste of nostalgia and crave exceptional flavors. Prepare to be delighted by the exquisite dishes and the warm, inviting ambiance that will make your dining experience truly special. As someone hailing from Kochi, I have been on the hunt for a place that serves a robust special tea with just the right amount of sweetness, but unfortunately, I have come up empty-handed, only team 1980 could somewhat matched my requirement 😊
