KIRTADS is a distinct Directorate that works under the Ministry of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development. The organization's major goal is to do research that will aid in the development of Kerala's Scheduled Communities. It also tries to identify the requirements and challenges that the marginalised community faces, as well as make recommendations to the government in order to find a solution to their overall development. This was founded on a national scale in 1972 as the Tribal Research and Training Centre (TR & TC), which was then renamed KIRTADS in 1979 and is currently aiming to develop all scheduled communities. The Kerala Institute for Research, Training, and Development Studies of Scheduled Castes and Tribes (KIRTADS) is a non-profit organisation that conducts research, training, and development studies for Scheduled Castes and Tribes in Kerala.

Good stop for school students. Informative and interesting figures are housed in the museum. the clothes, habitat, places of worship, ornaments and other objects of daily use are kept in the museum. It's a must place to visit for anyone interested in learning about different types of tribes in Kerala.

Spend almost 2 hours inside the museum, And it's worth a visit. There are a lot of cultural artefacts of Adivasis of Kerala. But interestingly there are still more artefacts inside the rooms those are partially closed, I had a chance to peep inside some of those, those were dusted and poorly maintained. The poor maintenance of the Kirtads museum may tell us more about the allegations that are being raised against Kirtads.

KIRTADS Ethnological Museum at Calicut is an amazing place to visit if one is interested to know about the Tribals of Kerala. The articles on display are original items acquired directly from the Tribal communities of Kerala. Mr Nelson, the Museum curator who accompanied us through all the 3 floors is very knowledgeable and patiently explained everything and also answered our queries. I really suggest the Government should give more publicity and create more awareness among the public of our brethren.

It is run under Kerala government. So please don't visit on public holidays and red mark in calendar. I couldn't visit this place because I went on Sunday. I just enquire in the information counter and the officer said that they provide a museum which contains the tribal people life style. So please visit on working days. Also don't believe Google map because the map shows the second entrance which is always closed and the road is just congested. The entrance on the main road itself and near to the bus stop.

*Kirtads* This unique museum houses the tools and devices used by the ancient tribal communities of Kerala. A good library with books on anthropology and sociology is an added attraction. It is in Chevayur.around 7 km from calicut city. The major studies related to tribes, welfare programmes and trinings are conducted by KIRTADS.KIRTADS means Kerala Institute for Research Training And Development of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
