The wildlife safari here was a thrilling experience. One can see beautiful forest roads and nature with lots of elephants, deers and peacocks. Best time to visit is during mornings. Fare was Rs.160/- per adult and safari jeep costs extra Rs.720/- even if you are a couple or 4 persons upto 7 per jeep. Only 2 slots are available per day: 7am-9am and 2pm-4pm. You have to be there in queue line before an hour to get tickets. A single person standing in queue can get 7 tickets only.

This is one of the best places I have ever been! The fact that they have preserved the Wildlife and have over 16 kilometres sanctuary for them is spectacular! It’s great how they value animals more than exploit them. It’s obvious how the wilds are comfortable living in this place because even monkeys are completely running around at sidewalks without being scared or showing aggressive behavior towards passersby. I would hope that are still a lot of places like this in the world that caters to the wild more than use them for entertainment. All the best to their staff and to all Indian (Kerala) people. 🙏🏻

There are 2 shifts, 7 a.m to 10 a.m and second shift is 3.to 5 .. make sure you reach at earlier morning possible , every shift they take 20 jeeps only and each jeep Carry 7 passangers max.. best time to visit during December to January.. animal sightings is purely based on luck. Elephant and deer sightings are somewhat promised but other animals depends on the month and time and luck.. be in the first jeep as best as possible because the sounds of jeeps scare away animals deep inside forest.. guides are good and friendly and polite..

Safari starts at 7 am to 10 am and then 3 pm to 5 pm. Tour by bus costs 300 per person and private jeep costs 2000. Bus trip is budget friendly and it worth it. You can easily see deer and pickoks, rest is your luck. But the fresh breeze is amazing. The tour guides are quite knowledgeable and knows the forest well. They are amazing at spotting animals. Overall it's worth taking the safari. Just go for it..

A big NO-NO. Multiple reasons : 1. There is no online booking. 2. You need to go and wait an hour in queue before the window opens for the booking 3. The driver is not interested nor excited to showcase the sanctuary / forest as he knows it's empty or he is just a driver and not a naturalist. 4. There are 2 domesticated elephants at the entry point. 5. You enter and within 500 mtrs, they again show you 5 elephants which thet claim are wild, but if you are a natural life enthusiast, you will know the elephants are stationed there. 6. Apart from that I saw 2, and I mean 2 spotted dear, 2 peacocks and thats it. 7. It is a 1 hour jeep ride, slow as a turtle, boring as a stone. I honestly would have paid 750 bucks to go off-roading in that jeep instead. 8. We saw herd of elephants and multiples of spotted dear on the main highway, which speaks volumes that this part of the forest is empty. A complete waste of time, money and fuel !

The safari was good.. but if you are planning to visit there, keep a good amount of money with you. Because, there needs 2 tickets for each person. How it works is, you need to take 160/- per person for the Safari. And you need to pay 805/- for hiring a Jeep driver (So basically 275/- per person if there are 7 persons in your jeep). They allow only 7 people maximum in a Jeep. But the safari is good though. We were able to see wild animals like elephant, bear, deer, hanuman monkey etc. There are 2 time slots (7-10 morning and 3-5 evening). You better report to the ticket queue atleast an hour before the start time. Otherwise you may not get the ticket( I was in the 19th jeep and only 20 jeeps were there).

Wish I could give no stars! First, You need to pay ₹180 per head to enter the sanctuary. We took the first best slot (7-10am) and managed to be at line which starts from 6AM itself. Once you get the ticket, you head out to jeep where they charge you separately ₹720 per jeep (it is shareable and accommodates 7 person). As soon as you pay for jeep, it starts for safari immediately. However, you could encounter ONLY deers and TAMED Elephants within 200mts of safari. Rest of safari you only see jungle. (Refer my pictures, to save some time) Our jeep driver itself told there are no Tigers, lions in the forest. We dint even saw as well. So, it’s typically waste if you’re thinking you can find one. The safari is just half to 45mins ride. Bonus note: You can find the same trail and ANIMALS (deers/peacocks very closely ) with NO Cost while: 1. you’re coming from Bangalore to Wayanad (via Nagarhole ) 2. Going through Wayanad-Calicut route. Hence, it was a disappointment and no value for money for us even after taking the best time and being within the first few starting jeeps!

Must visit tourist spot in wayand. Sanctuary has safari ride of an hour takes the history inside the forest with the forest range guards. Elephants, vultures, deers and tigers can been seen if the travel time is favouable and it's purley based on luck where at times these rides ends without seeing any of these wild animals. 😜 Van safari cost INR300 per head and individual jeep cost nearly INR2500plus but not sure about the rates. During season times it's hard very busy as it been said. Must recommended

Was a bit disappointed as we were not able to see many animals. We got to see only a bunch of elephants with 3 cute little baby elephants 😍 , vultures and some deer. We saw tiger footprints but was not lucky enough to see the actual tiger. ₹160 per person and ₹720 extra for safari (this ₹720 is for a full jeep safari which can be shared with maximum of 7 people). I think the best time is the morning shift. There’s two shift for safari. One is from 7am to 10 am and the next shift is from 3pm to 5pm. I think morning shift gives us some moments.

We can have a beautiful view of the forest by taking a safari ride from the forest check-post. The ride is for 1 hr we have the option of taking the bus & Jeep (Limited number). The ride starts at 7.30 am. Please make sure to carry cash, they don't accept cards or any UPI payments. From the animal spotting perspective, it's based on luck, normally we can see the below animals. 1. peacock 2. Elephants 3. Deers Hope to get better animal spotting in the next visit.

The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is an animal sanctuary in Wayanad, Kerala, India. It is better to go in the morning time, so we can see animals like elephants, Deers, monkeys, Peacocks, cuckoos, woodpeckers, etc. But there is no online booking, we have to wait in the Que for a long time. The entry fee per person will be Rs 160 and also parking fee Rs 85. After this we have to pay an extra Rs 720 for a jeep which carry 7 persons. We can't take our cabs in to the forest. It almost one hour journey. in my opinion we can go there only once. Because it depends on the luck of the traveler. In the morning there are 40 Jeep service and after noon will be only 20. When we are planning to ho to Bangalore or Mysuru we can use this rout. The Muthanga check post will be open 6 am in the morning. If we can pass by this time, we can see these animals on the road without any cost. The Muthanga range of the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the few in the country which are allowed to be open throughout the year. Different seasons bring out different aspects of the wildlife sanctuary. If sightings are your main concern, visit here in the summers. From April to June, the forests experience scorching heat, and this brings out most of the wild animals to water bodies in the plain view of onlookers who sit inside their safari jeeps with bated breath

During my visit, I was lucky enough to spot various wild animals such as elephants, deer, monkeys, and even rare species of birds and reptiles. The sanctuary also offers guided tours and jeep safaris, which I highly recommend as they provide a deeper insight into the sanctuary and its inhabitants.Overall, my experience at the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary was beyond amazing. Seeing and learning about the various species of wildlife in their natural habitats was truly humbling and awe-inspiring. I highly recommend this sanctuary to anyone visiting Kerala who loves nature and wildlife.

And here comes the best place for entering the wild. You can explore the forest. The ticket charge for the bus is 300, and the jeep safari 2000, it's a package you should pay 2000 for one jeep safari even if you are a limited number of three. Try to come in the morning. The ticket counter was a little bit crowded. So please reach out early for better sight seeing, and there is a slot between 3pm to 6pm.

I recently went on this wildlife safari and unfortunately, I was not very impressed with the experience. While I was excited to see some exotic animals, there was very little to see during the safari. The only animals that I saw were elephants and deer, which are fairly common and easily available to see elsewhere. I understand that seeing a tiger or other rare animals on a safari is often a matter of luck, but I was disappointed that I didn't see any other animals besides the elephants and deer. Overall, I would give the wildlife safari a 3-star rating. While the experience was not terrible, it did not meet my expectations. If you are looking for an opportunity to see some rare and exotic animals, this may not be the best safari for you. However, if you are content with seeing some common animals in a natural setting, then it might be worth considering.

Wayanad is a land of forest so you would expect to sight a few wildlife on your way through the trees on both sides. So we did spot an elephant and as well a baby elephant even before we entered the sanctuary! The tickets for the afternoon open from 3pm. On the day I went they had only buses running thru. Each of them could accommodate 21 people. Would be good to get a window seat but it's a small traveller bus so even the isle seat doesn't hurt. I was able to spot an elephant, few stags and deers but that was all. Don't be disappoint if you don't see any wildlife, it's totally on chance. The experience is worth it. Although I think the ticket is a bit on a higher side. Had fun on the around an hour drive in the forest. Should do if you haven't done a safari yet.

On the way from Mysore to Waynad this is the forest right at the starting of Kerala border. Also part of Bandipur forest that becomes Waynad wildlife sanctuary is very calm and scenic. Driving here is a pleasure in itself with chances of spotting several animals (as in the pics) and the road conditions are excellent.

Disappointed. If you are planning to visit this sanctuary try to be in the first 5 slots. Else you will end up seeing only elephants, ant castles and bushes. The counter opens at 7am . The entry fee for adults is Rs160 and to book a safari for a group of people you need to pay Rs85 at the counter, Rs720 to the driver. 2 slots are available. First one is the morning with 40 jeeps and second in the afternoon with around 30 jeeps. At 3 pm the ticket counter gets closed. 1 jeep can accommodate 7 people. So if you're count is below 7 then you can choose to form groups with others. The safari is for 16kms and takes 30-40 mins. I felt it was a waste of money and time since the season and time I visited this place was not right.

Trucking to the wild life sanctuary is provided by forest department by buses and jeeps. Should reach before 9.00 am for permission. It's strictly based on first come basis and there is a limit for number of entries. It may vary as per holidays and special days. Trucking will cost ₹360 per person for bus and ₹2000 for booking a jeep. 8 persons can travel in the jeep. Trucking is attractive in the monsoon. High chances to see elephants and deers.

Wayanad wildlife sanctuary will be opend only on timing basis. Morning 7am - 10am and evening 3pm - 6pm . Coming ti tickets you have to pay 160 rs as entry fee and 720 rs per jeep ( 7 members can travel ). You cant walk inside the sanctuary using the 160rs ticket or use your own vehicle . Jeep safari is the only way to get in. . This is important one !! : If you are going solo or as couple or less than 7 members you still have to pay 720rs for hiring a jeep but u can share the amount this people on mutual negotiations. For example you came as couple u dont need to pay 720 rs. You can share with others who came as 5 or 4 on mutual understanding. I payed 160 rs for jeep by sharing with a family who came as 5. You can see elephants, deers, peacock etc don't expect tiger or leopard will come and say hii to u 😁

Promising sight seeing area. Better to visit during morning. Too feel the freshness. Also jeep safari is good.Located around 16 km away from Sulthan Bathery, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, popularly known as Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is a rainforest wich connects Nagarhole and Bandipur parks in Karnataka and Mudumalai in Tamil Nadu. Spread over an area of 345 sq km, the sanctuary is an abode of rich flora and fauna. The moist deciduous forest of Muthanga is blessed with varieties of trees and other plants. You can sight here maruthi, karimaruthi, rosewood, venteak, vengal etc. Go and get excited with the sight of wild animal like elephant, tiger, panthers, jungle cats, civet cats, monkeys, wild dogs etc. The sanctuary is also blessed with its endless population of birds like peacocks, babblers, cuckoos, owls, woodpeckers, jungle fowls etc.

I was really excited to visit Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, as I had heard great things about it. However, I was very disappointed with my experience. We went on a jeep safari, and we only saw a few elephants and some deer. We were hoping to see tigers or leopards, but we didn't see any. The safari guide told us that the wildlife is very elusive, and it can be difficult to see them. However, I think that the sanctuary could do more to attract wildlife to the area. Also the jeep safaris were very slow, and we spent most of the time just driving around in circles. Another problem that I had with Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is the lack of infrastructure. The roads are in bad condition, and it can be difficult to get around. The facilities at the sanctuary are also very basic. There are no restaurants or shops, and the toilets are very dirty. Overall, I was very disappointed with my experience at Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. I would not recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great wildlife experience. There are much better places to see animals in India.

wildlife sanctuary in Wayanad, Kerala, India. It has an extent of 344.44 km2 with four ranges namely Sulthan Bathery, Muthanga, Kurichiat and Tholpetty. A variety of large wild animals such as Indian bison, elephant, deer and tiger are found there. There are also quite a few unusual birds in the sanctuary. In particular, peafowl tend to be very common in the area. Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is the second largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala. It is bestowed with lush green forests and rich wildlife. This wildlife area houses some of the rare and endangered species of both flora and fauna. Source

Do not expect much. Its just a one hour ride inside through the forest. You may not be able to see wild animals except deers, peacock and if you have luck one or tow elephants. Still you can have the unseen beauty of the flora and funa of Wayanad forests. You may observe the spread of invading species like Senna which kills the beauty of the forest. Not recommended to travel in Jeeps by paying a higher amount. Bus of the forest dept is available for Rs. 300/ head. Once you finish the ride, it is recommended to travel through the highway towards Bandhipur in your own vehicle. In less than 10 KM, you will cross Karnataka border- from there onwards the nature of forest changes and you will get a different experience. You may also see wild animals during the journey. Entry fee at the checkpost is just Rs.20. If you have enough time, you can travel 40-45 KM and reach Bandhipur where you can enjoy beautiful Sunflower fields.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is a fantastic destination for nature enthusiasts who love seeing animals in their natural habitat. They offer a Bus Safari that takes you deep into the forest, with a return journey through Bathery-Gundalpet road. It's best to arrive early to secure a spot on the first bus,The ticket counter opens at 0700hours and on weekends if there's a surge in the number of tourists, you might have the option for an open Jeep Safari. The Bus Safari costs 300 rs. The only downside is that the buses could be better designed for sightseeing, with some blind spots due to pillars. There's an eco-shop at the entry point which sells forest products collected by the tribal communities at affordable prices.

If you're looking for an unforgettable wildlife experience, I highly recommend taking a jungle safari in this park. The best time to go is in the morning at 6:30 am, as the weather is cool and you can see the animals in their natural habitat. The experience of seeing the wildlife up close is simply awe-inspiring. The fog adds an extra layer of mystery and beauty to the scenery, making the entire experience more memorable. The jungle safari is an excellent way to witness the beauty of nature and get a glimpse of various animals in their natural habitat

Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is rich in bio-diversity and is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The Sanctuary is committed to scientific conservation with consideration for the general lifestyle of the tribals and others who live in and around the forest region. The Sanctuary has a large population of pachyderms that roam freely on the preserve and has been declared a Project Elephant site. Various species of deer, monkey, and birds are found here and tiger sightings are occasionally known to happen.

Didn't spot any leopards, elephants or tigers. Just deer and one bison. We went for evening slot, so that could be one of the reasons, but can guarantee its very rare to spot any wild animal (except deer) as most would back away due to the Jeep noise. Recommended only for its little off road safari experience (very bumpy at some areas). Would not recommend to go for the evening slot at all, try for morning and that too, only if there's nothing else to do Note: there's an entry fee and a vehicle fee too.

A great safari that isn’t built solely for tourists. It’s unlikely you’ll see every animal you want to see but that’s fine by me... that’s how safaris should be. You should turn up at least an hour before the morning or afternoon safari start times to secure a ticket... places are numbered and the further forward in the queue then the better chance you have of viewing wildlife. You pay for entry to the park and then pay for a jeep separately... seems confusing at the time but the locals kept us informed. The actual park is beautiful by itself so don’t get too hung up on seeing 60 wild elephants together... just go and enjoy. However, we did see wild elephants, spiders, deer, bisen, tribal villages and a tigers footprint. Well worth the money.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary also called Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area of over 300 square km. The sanctuary offers two sets of safaris - 7AM - 10AM & 3PM - 5PM. The place doesn't have availability of food joints/ restaurants. There is a paid restroom. The safari is good. We managed to see peacocks, deers, elephant and plenty of monkeys. It's best to go on the first few jeeps if possible as you'll be able to see more animals. It's one of the main tourist attractions in Wayanad. Do visit!

Located 20 kms east of Mananthavady in the district of Wayanad, is the scenic Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary. Rich in wide variety of flora and fauna, Tholpetty sanctuary has been a favorite spot of domestic and international tourists. Though the visitors are restricted to the outer zone, a jeep safari will be a brilliant opportunity to enjoy the dense forests and the stunning surrounding scenery. Visitors often see elephant herd, sambar deer, bison, bear, Malabar squirrel and occasionally tigers and panthers. The lake that passes through the sanctuary is another interesting spot to see wildlife as animals come there in search of water.

Nice and well maintained by forest officers or Sanctuary authorities. Jungle safari is privatised, entry and jeep safari can cost up to 400 to 500 per person. You can easily spot Deers, Barasingha, Elephants and Vultures. If you're lucky then you might see wild dogs, hyena or even leopard and tiger (needs extreme luck and good timing)

Established in 1973, the sanctuary is now an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. It is bounded by protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka in the northeast, and on the southeast by Mudumalai of Tamil Nadu. It is part of the Deccan Plateau and the vegetation is predominantly of the south Indian moist deciduous teak forests. Also, the sanctuary has pastures of the west-coast semi-evergreen trees. The wildlife sanctuary comes under Protect Elephant and one can spot herd of elephants roaming in the area. Elephant rides are arranged by the Kerala Forest Department. WE ARE GUEST HERE. IN THE HOME OF WILD. With beware as we are guest, not owners, we must be careful and don't Destroy the beauty and balancing of nature. The best spot to see wild animals in their natural home. Deers, peacock, bafalos, Elephant, monkeys are plenty and we can see Tiger, Leopard, and the King of Jungle rarely if you have luck. Just drive in highway only if personal vehicle, and Don't stop in Forest .. just roll on .

Just a forest ride. Very very rare to spot animals. Never think of spotting a Leopard or tiger or something that kind. As usual... Just the deers and monkey. And trained elephant placed at the entrance with its care taker. We took a Jeep ride. Jeep doesn't have any safety measures. It's almost open on all three sides . This proves, nothing dangerous here. Driver may tell you some cooked up stories to keep you excited but nothing is true. Additionally, he may tell stories about the best honey and he may try to sell. I fall into a trap, don't know if that is pure or not. You can avoid that if you don't want. Apart from that... Just a 45 min Jeep ride inside a managed, no wild animal forest.

The park is open from 8 am . You have 2 safari options 1. Bus: 300 / person. 2. Jeep: 500/ person. Lookout for sharing. You will sight elephants, deer, chipmunks and may be Bison. Overall a 1 hour safari ride. They do have washrooms outside the park. Recommend visiting early on a weekend.

👍 Spotting animals is a hit or miss. Tickets are very limited, local people will buy tickets for you ( I mean black ). For direct booking you have to be there before 3-4 hrs of safari. Not a wow kind of thing, tholpetty seems better.

👍 A stunning journey with deer, buffalo and the most delicious chai and local snacks on route! We were the wrong time of day to see Elephants in the clearly marked Elephant Corridor, Which is a whole section of road. The experts says December/ January is the best time to travel.
