Had lots of time in SultanBattery and decided on the visit. Plan for 9 AM to 3 PM to really enjoy the trek and place. 1st check point is the parking ticket entry barrier, 40 per car, they give you parking lot number, you need to park there. Was low crowd, so no hassles. The 1.5 km trek from park to cave is moderate and will need OK fitness. On the way, the way side shops solicit all types of business, we just just smiled and say NO. You need to carry water to drink, knee braces, if you are used to it. We went slow n steady, reached the ticket place, 20 per person and they check for plastic bottles. You ho up granite steps, then steel steps, well made. The climb is steep in sections, goes up 300 steps into a cave. Just a cave, but what makes this special is the engravings of about 6k years ago. Local guides appear magically, unofficial, you can pay them nominal fee. They explain well too 👍 Exit is clean too.. A good work out and an OK activity to do.. History buffs would love it!

The best example of ancient life on earth. The cave is full of ancient inscriptions and it’s beautiful to look. Gives us the glimpse of past. The best part is the hike that we have to do to reach the place. It’s almost 1.5 km of steep slope and stairways. Will not recommend to people with heart disease as it will be extremely exhausting to get to the site. It’s the most amazing experience that we can have in our life. The top view from the cave entrance is amazing and beautiful. If you ever visit wayanad, you must see this place.

You need to walk for 900 meters from the parking area. After you reach the entrance of the cave you have to climb a lot! Steps are provided but it’s very steep. By the time you reach the top of the cave you will be dripping with sweat. I suggest that old people not to take this trek as it will be too tiring for them.

We went there by car. They have a lot of parking space available. Then there is about 1km walk to the ticket counter. The way is dotted with small shops selling freshly ground coffee, wooden household items, herbs and snacks. I would recommend keeping your bags in your vehicle of you can and also buy stuff on your way back because there is a steep climb up the stairs after the ticket counter. About 300 or so stairs take you to the cave entrance. The 2nd cave on the top is the one you definitely want to see for the inscriptions. It is a really cool place for history buffs. And, it also offers a great view of the area from up top. Surely worth the climb. (It could be a bit difficult to climb for older people so be careful).

It is one best heritage caves we have in India, this has history to tell, the carving on the stones on the top of a hill tells a story of early Man , this is before the Indus valley civilization. The way to go on the top of the hill is covered with forest and you would love the chirping of birds and the green atmosphere, please be careful not to take any eatables in hand as there are lots of monkeys and they can snatch it from your hand. Also try to go early as possible , do not go on weekends as there will be a lot crowd and you will not be able to enjoy the whole experience.

The place was truly amazing! Different parking slots were available, and a nominal fee of 20 rupees for bike parking was required at the entrance. After parking, there's about a kilometer journey to reach the assigned spot. From there, it's a challenging trek to the top where the cave is located – not for the faint-hearted. The entry charges is 50 rupees per person, advised to carry cash. The terrain is tough, and sturdy shoes are advised due to slippery roads. The descent poses a challenge with steep stairs, which could be dangerous. However, the overall experience is worth it. The cave offers a unique visit, with lots of shops along the way for essentials. The adventure may be tough, but the scenic beauty and the sense of accomplishment make it a great experience.

Very beautiful caves. Long trek, about 1 km. Steep height. Wear good grip shoes and be energetic. Beautiful scenery. Cave is at top. To go there, climb stone steps. Very crowded area. Very long wait times to buy Cave tickets. Costs 50₹ per head.

It's one of heritage cave and it's kind off mini hiking. And we would encounter a beautiful view via hiking to caves. And it's must visit place if you are visiting to waynad! Wearing shoes is recommended and if you are visiting during June to August be prepared to get drenched in rain!! Entry fee is 50rs and Parking is 40rs

Place is very well maintained. Its quite a steep trek to the caves where we can see some ancient inscriptions. And nothing much other than that. Might be fun when in groups. Absolutely not suitable for old and elderly people. Not suitable during summers.

It is a nice place to visit. The walk from the parking spot to the cave can be difficult for people having walking issues or who have breathing problem. They should plan well and should ascend slowly. There are many shops for taking breaks. Although the main cave is not that big you should keep your expectations accordingly. The old rock carvings are clearly visible but if you want to understand them better, you can opt for guides who are available inside the caves.

If you are going to Wayanad and if you are fit enough to climb about 300 steep steps, you should not miss Edakkal Caves. The caves with prehistoric carvings are good but the actual thrill is climbing the steps which sometimes become almost vertical. Once you reach the top, the views are just breathtaking. It is advisable not to rush through the steps - stop frequently and take ample rest. Also take sufficient water with you as it is not available after the climb starts. If you are driving to this place, there is ample parking space. The parking is paid. You need to walk uphill for about 1 km before the ticket window arrives. The stairs start from the ticket window. It is better to arrive as early as possible because it gets very crowded most of the time and some of the steps are so narrow that its get scary when there are many people waiting to climb up or down. PS: While returning, do not forget to buy freshly made coffee powder from the many small shops that come up along the way from the ticket window to the parking. You can also try the home made chocolates and spices that they sell.

Went on a Sunday... obviously lots of rush. Great place for a good trek and climb. But people are the WORST!!! They cut lines in queue, they don't maintain queue on really steep and narrow climbs also. Once you manage to reach the top, the views are breathtaking and the carvings are intriguing...

It is a 30 minutes/1km of uphill walk from starting point but views from top are beautiful. It can be difficult for senior citizens or couples with infants. Absolutely avoid weekends and afternoon combination. The queue or wait time will be more and it becomes painful in the heat. Caves are little smaller compared to other caves I have seen but some of the carvings are beautiful.

Heritage of India. These are the cave of stone age time, when people started to make weapons etc. These caves are about 4000m above from sea level. You can see beautiful view of phentom rock from here and from the cave as well. It's a beautiful site.

It is fantastic cave. Roads and pathways themselves are steep. Wonderful road works to get beautiful entry into caves. Fabulous sceneries after getting into hill. Hill view spots are exemplary. Rocks are so big and very narrow cleavage between two rocks is amazing. Carving on the rocks looks glamorous. Trekking here is possible. The fares are not exaggerated. Although, it's needed minimum two hours to spend in caves, provision of soft drinks might be needed to quench the thirst of the tourists. Once you get down all along the paths juices and snacks are available.

To get straight to the point. Don't Climb up if you are not up for a Km Trek to the top of the hill in a steep angle. I would not recommend this place for the elderly. The views from the top are good though. I am attaching a few pictures with this. It's a pre-historic site which ignites a thought, as to how and why these carvings were made here.

It is a good point to visit the stone carvings that are only in 2 places in the world. We got a guide who explained it. There is a church at the beginning of the hike which looks good. It also has good views and is good for one visit. Its initial hike is tough till the ticket counter and then it becomes less easy comparatively. Coming down is easy.

It's not much adventure to be there in top in ths cave as there are steps throughout. So those who wish to reach the top can be there without much struggle. but still the step are steep enough. The entry tickets are available at the site and also you can book it from the official site of DTPC . The entry amount is 30 for adults I guess.

The way to the cave is a 1.5-kilometer trek from the base of the hill of Nenmini. There are various pay and park options available. On the way to the hills, you can find many shopkeepers showing out their aggressive selling techniques to attract customers to buy their products for which you may say NO if u don't desire to buy them. The ticket rate per person is ₹20/-. The most important thing to keep in mind is that if you are visiting the place during the monsoon season please beware of the leeches and other parasites there. You would not feel it until it had sucked all the blood out of your feet. Make sure that you are carrying a water bottle full of water with you because climbing up a 1.5-kilometer foot hill may turn out to be a herculean task for most of them. You require a basic amount of fitness for it. There are stairs built of granite and steel at various places on the way to the cave. Also, there are local guides to guide the visitors on the way. They speak your preferred languages and explain to you the historic importance of the cave and the engravings on the rocks inside the cave. Overall it is a very beautiful place for people who would love to explore the living style and state of ancient times by the early humans who resided in the hills.

Very exciting place! The fact that the cave carvings are as old as 8000 years (6000 BCE) is just unbelievable! You can see what the early prehistoric man of India thought like! The carvings are beautiful and fantastic! There's even a crack in the walls of the cave caused by Earth quake which looks fantastic. The climb uphill is a bit challenging if you're not in the best of shape, but my aged parents of 69 years and 61 years could complete the climb, so youngsters should easily be able to complete! Some portions of the climb have metal stairs with railings which make it easy to climb for all. Overall a great destination and well developed by tourism board.

It's a great adventure if you can climb upto the Mountain top. Unfortunately Government closed the adventurous area since 2009. But still best place to get some sort of trekking experience. If you go along with family, try to go in summer. Rainy season may be slippery. The rocks all over its sculptures etc... Are enormous and all attractive. At the top you can watch several mountains that is absolutely mind-blowing. You can park cars at bottom and other vehicles too. Don't miss 12 D experience there it's lot cheaper there

If you are ready to go uphill 1km on a road and then steps, you will discover a wonderful view and 2 caves. The upper one has lots of ancient engravings from local tribes. Nice place to visit and to see how gifted were our ancestors.

Go prepare with your shoes or comfortable footwear for the mini trekking experience. Quite a steep walk from parking to caves. Depending on the crowd, you get the parking slot number along with your entry pass. Easily 2hrs, so plan when you are high on energy. There are two caves, and many people get exhausted in the first cave and climb down. Take a few deep breaths to climb up the steps for the main cave and a great view.

One of the must visit place. Always wear shoes and be ready for some steep hike. First few meters you have steep cement road to climb. Then steep steps to climb. The steps are really steep. Please avoid if you are above 60, unless you are really fit. But the view is really good. Donot carry heavy bags. Carry umbrella or plastic rain covers. Once you reach the cave, look out for a person who claims himself as guide. He will get your mobile and point to the rocks where the scriptings are there. Without his help you cannot find what is drawn there. He gets what ever you give and also takes some good pics of you. Car parking charge 40 rupees Entrance 50 per adult.

The view from the top of the cave is breathtaking! I recently had the opportunity to explore the caves, and it was an absolutely incredible experience! The natural beauty and geological formations inside the caves left me speechless. The trek was quite tiring but the view at the top was worth it. Not suitable for aged people especially those with disabilities. Better to visit on a weekday early morning when it is less crowded. After this ticket counter you need to climb some 350 steps to reach to the first cave NOTE.. THERE ARE 2 CAVES to be seen

Nice place. It has bit long trek. Like 5km up and down from the parking lot. First 1-1.5km is through the road around small shops. Then you will reach the ticket counter. 50rs is the entry fee. Then steep steps made up of iron or steel for 1km max. Finally you will see the cave with historical symbols by the early humans.

The caves are worth visiting, especially if you are interested in works by ancient people. The earliest carvings are from 6000BCE. Additionally, the views are very impressive. Unfortunately as it is such a popular destination it does get very busy, which can make it difficult to admire the views and ancient craftsmanship. Knowledgeable guides are available in the main cave, who will show you the most notable petroglyphs (a tip is expected at the end). Those with low mobility should avoid here as the steps are long and steep.

This place is well kept and maintained. Some sort of transportation using electric vehicles to some extent would be useful. There is a lot of distance to cover uphill by foot and if some non polluting mechanical help was there, would be useful and less taxing. The cave is at the peak of the climb and is worth a visit. Please have a cardio before you plan to visit anyway.

I had an incredible experience climbing before reaching the caves ! There were over 450 steps and a long way before we reached the caves. And once we reached, all our tiredness got vanished on seeing the 3000+ years cave carvings and their essence.

Must visit places near Wayanad. The drive is good. The trek is steep but has lush greenery all around so it is very calming and soothing. The view from the top is mesmerising. Inside the cave you can see the wall paintings. Do take the help of the guide present there to understand the paintings and do look at it via your mobile camera to understand them more.

You need to walk alot and more steep. Try to get parking spot 1 or else you need to walk additional more. carry water and energy bars. There are proper steps and connectivity to caves.

  • 5/5 Siddharth C. 3 months ago on Google New
A place with an immense amount of historic remains. Eddakal caves, located in Wayanad is a proof of Neolithic settlements that date back to 6000 BCE. There are engravings on the walls that are pre historic in nature and make us to realise how much human hand evolved over time. A must see place for anyone visiting Wayanad. If you are coming along with senior citizens, it would surely be a struggle as there is just a lot to climb and most of it is extremely steep. But it's worth the climb!

  • 5/5 Vinay V. 3 months ago on Google New
Quite an experience. The cave is located way above a hill. Reaching the cave is along walk, first through a road, then proper rock climbing followed by a stairway walk to reach the cave. A good km or two of climbing. So a good cardio guaranteed.

  • 5/5 Portgas D A. 4 months ago on Google
I visited this place years before and now it looks more accessible..they installed proper ladders for the entire inclined rock hill side. But don't think that it is tooooo accessible, the terrain is not suitable to make more accessible than this. still hard to climb but it's worth it the effort . I heard that there is a limit for the total counts of tickets like they will not allow more than 2000 tickets total for one day...

  • 5/5 Ruksana M. 1 year ago on Google
One of the best tourist spot in wayanad if you want to enjoy hiking. Try to wear shoes with good grip. The cave is at the top of the hill. So you need to climb the stone steps. The initial hike till the ticket counter is so tough. But after that it was comparatively less harder as we use steps to get on top. But coming down so easy. I wont recommend it if you are travelling with elderly people as it will be so much difficult for then to climb. There are stone carvings in the cave. And the top view was amazing. It was worth the climb.

Its a very long walk from car park (better if u get nearer) to gate with winding roads with slope, then from gate it's a tedious Trek on heavy slopes to entrance of the cave . Then to reach both caves, lots of steps and rock climbing needed. Its a beautiful place to see. But people who are not physically fit, do not try, cause once u start climbing there's no proper place to sit and rest unless u reach the entrance.

  • 4/5 Pradeip R. 10 months ago on Google
No such deep caves. It's more of a trekking on the hill station. Plastic bottles are not allowed so it's clean. Side scenes make you happy and keep it cool. Must visit once. Better don't bring kids and seniors.

  • 2/5 Sumana M. 10 months ago on Google
Seriously speaking it's a taste of your energy & stamina. Nothing interesting to see there. If you love to trek but with no hope. I will suggest that if you go for a short trip don't go it's a total waste of time & energy.

The view from the top of the cave is breathtaking! It blews you off from the chaos of life and reminds that there is a lot more nature can offer. It's a good place to visit. There is a lot to walk to reach the cave. But all is well when u reach the top and experience the cave and the view of the most beautiful thing on planet Earth!!

Nice historic place to visit. The caves has drawings ranging from 6000 years to 2500 years. Take the help of the guide to explain the drawings, there would be 2-3 guides standing all time to help out (Pay some decent tips to them). Parking management is good. Roads are good. Nice steep climb of 1.5 kms. Overall nice experience.

Dive into our ancestral life. After a short trek into the mountains through caves we will find the cravings showing some important historical values of that civilisation. The climb maybe difficult for some persons especially aged people. But still its worth it. The view and serenity when we reach the top is so great that we will forget that we are tired from the climb.
