For my birthday, me&venkat wanted to stay in a calm place near wayanad, kerala. As I was searching, I got the details about this beautiful home stay Sundara mahal, on NH 766,kalpetta, kerala. Wonderful stay with beautiful environment, natural beauty with lots of greenery. What else I need?Relaxation for 3 full days&nights from a stressful city life. Morning wakeup call from lovely birds, a jealous jungle fowl (he takes some intervals too!😊). The hosts are Mrs. Prabha &Mr.Murali(Narayana swami).Wonderful couple. We were chatting from morning to night,except for our outing, regular intervals for personal work. Such a wonderful mansion which has 112 years old history of vips visit to common man. The library in the adjacent building is awesome with having the signature of our father of nation, Gandhiji&other important freedom fighters.As a musician I am delighted to sing a song during the vishu festival. Main thing is the pure vegetarian food 😋. Usually in kerala, we pure vegetarians suffer a lot to find a pure vegetarian hotel, that too with our standard of lifestyle. Luckily Prabha ji used to cook tasty vegetarian dishes with always a smile on her face. We were always in sundara mahal only for all those 4 days except a temple visit to thirunelli kshetram (for my birthday).we loved the ambience, natural surroundings with lush greenery, tall herbal trees, bamboo plants, roses etc.Neo,a goldenretriever wanted us to play with her in early mornings!Pooni,a kitten is there. Managing such a vast area is an herculean task but here the hosts are Managing with the help of a couple of helpers.Our car driver didn't step down to stay in nearby hotels because of the quiet scenic place. Service is also good. We choose Sundara Mahal as It was a purely vegetarian and near to the City. I felt so happy and surprised when I received warm welcome from Mrs. Prabha and Mr. Murali after a long journey. The property is very well maintained with clean rooms. I love the "ZULA" and wide range of books kept in the main hall. The dinner was a wide spread of fresh home made food. (Specially Rasam and Brinjal Curry), after seeking our preferences. It was like a family dinner with the host joining us at the dinner table. Breakfast (specially Paysam and Puttu with curry) was also very tasty with aroma of filter Coffee!!! How can I forget to mention about three Dogs and two cute Kittens? My kids have enjoyed a lot playing with them. Mrs. Prabha has suggested us place for shopping as well as given us proper guidance for place to visit in Waynad! Last but not the least they have very beautiful smile and pure heart, I didn't feel for a single minute that I am meeting them for the first time. We were looking for pure veg and clean home stay at Waynad, and came to know about Sundaramahal homestay from reviews. I felt happy with Prabha aunty and Murali Uncle because of their joyful and easy nature. My parents got relaxed with clean homestay, tasty food like North Karnataka. A "HOME" Stay Indeed !! Sundara Mahal is a beautiful home amidst the green landscapes of Wayanad. Its location is easily accessible through Google Maps. Once you are in their huge property, it is a peaceful place surrounded with nature and their pleasant sounds. We were warmly welcomed by the hosts and a lovely couple, Prabha Aunty and Murli Uncle, who made us feel comfortable from the moment we met them. We were surprised and delighted to know that we would be staying with them in their home which had two extra rooms for guests. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean with basic amenities provided. The most important reason for us selecting Sundara Mahal was that it was pure vegetarian. Prabha Aunty cooked delicious healthy meals and was very cooperative in terms of our tastes and needs. The memorable times of our stay was having meals and chatting with both of them, especially Murli Uncle who would entertain us with his anecdotes and witty sense of humour. They took utmost care of our privacy, also allowing free access to most parts of their home including the kitchen. Prabha Aunty was very responsive to our queries and also helped us with itineraries regarding sightseeing in Wayanad. Sundara Mahal is a safe and secure homestay with positive people and ambience. It is a place to be if one is looking for a relaxed vacation, child friendly place and pure vegetarian homestay. We had a wonderful stay and ended up making new friends and cherishable memories.

I am waiting to get there again. I stayed there for 4 days with my wife and it was truly a great experience. We did not go out much and took the home food throughout the stay. The hosts (Prabha and Murali) are great people and treated us like long-time friends right from the start. Lovely home cooked food and fantastic ambience. Both of us are looking forward to staying there again.

Home away from home in the midst of calm, green Wayanad. It is a place called Kalpetta where this Homestay is situated. It is very accessible. We truly felt at home. Prabha & Murali were the best hosts that you would ever wish for. We were warmly welcomed by the hosts Prabha, Her mother and Murali , who made us feel comfortable from the moment we met them. The rooms were spacious and clean with all amenities in place. They also helped us with itineraries regarding sightseeing in Wayanad. The driver[Kannan] also was great, he was patient and made sure we had a great time and were able to see and experience Wayanad in a manner that the sweet memories are there for a long time. The most important criteria for us selecting Sundara Mahal was that it was pure vegetarian. The memories that we made are something which we will cherish for a long time. Sundara Mahal is a safe, beautiful, peaceful homestay with great hosts who will make your stay a memorable one. Sundar Mahal in Wayanad- Great location, really pleasant and comfy clean rooms. The rooms are impeccably clean and all the facilities were in perfect working order. Thank you for the excellent wonderful hospitality with delicious home made breakfast and dinner. We felt happy with Prabha chechi and Murali sir for their kindness and love. We strongly recommend to all vegetations to visit this place. In fact both Prabha chechi and Murali sir provided us memorable experiences.

'Sundaramahal' As the name says, its Sundar indeed! Sharing this review after almost 3 weeks of our stay here and still my family speaks about this Homestay, the way Prabha and Murli treated us and not to forget about the delicious food that Prabha cooked for all of us. Honestly speaking, no hotels can give you this warm and cozy stay including all the basic amenities with no compromise. Rooms, Bathrooms are super clean. The home is excellently designed and maintained. How can I not mention Neo, The little angel! A cute retriever that stole our hearts❤️. On the whole, We loved our stay!You will be treated more as a family rather than Just Guests. Will definitely plan to visit Wayanad again specially to spend a short vacation at 'SundaraMahal'.

Sundara Mahal in Wyanad is by far the best home stay I have ever stayed at, anywhere. Easily accessible from the highway and yet ensconced amidst huge trees and lush green vegetation, the place is an oasis of quiet seclusion. Prabha & Murali are wonderful hosts who took care of our creature comforts in minute detail. From the moment we arrived at their place we were whole heartedly welcomed and made to feel completely at home. Spacious guest rooms with spotlessly clean washrooms are actually part of the large, century old house where the hosts also stay. They are both engaging conversationalists with a treasure trove of interesting stories and experiences. There was never a dull moment during our time with them. For breakfast and dinner, Prabha served up the most delicious, authentic, traditional Kerala vegetarian dishes. Believe me, it’s worth staying there even if only to savour the cuisine! Early in the morning a jungle fowl woke us up with its raucous crowing which continued until it was satisfied that everyone was wide awake and ready for the orchestra that followed - melodious chirping, singing and twittering of birds. Sipping refreshing ginger tea in the portico, gazing at the surrounding greenery, watching tiny birds foraging in the front yard, time passed by, unhurriedly. Neo, the lovely, friendly golden retriever competed with the hosts in showering her affection. And when it was time to leave, we had to literally drag ourselves away with the promise of future, longer visits to look forward to.

We chose this homestay since it was purely vegeterian. The homestay has been maintained very well, the rooms are spacious, clean, and really beautiful. The hostess was one of the warmest and most welcoming lady we came across in Wayanad. The best part was home-cooked food served hot for breakfast and dinner. My kids became very close to Prabha aunty and they still cherish the memories :)

The veriety of veg food, the cleanliness and the vast book collection + the warm welcome was so different. The hospitality is next level, not everywhere you would get this feeling.

This is a wonderful place. Prabha is very sweet to take care of our 2.5yr old daughters food needs. Those delicious breakfast, button idlies for my little one and the famous papads ..all we're just perfect for a home stay. They were warm people. She also had planned a surprise on my birthday. Now it is 5years since we visited them, she never forgets to wish us every new year. I would love to visit them again....

Excellent pure vegetarian home stay with loads of heart poured into every action from the talks, cooking and all. The owners Prabha, Murali and family yearn to have guests and speak with them about this ancestral house and explain about all corners. Food is always pure vegetarian with loads of love poured into it while cooking and serving. Kerala traditions in cooking and they explain what it is all about. Loads of open space for guests to play and relax. Always a recommend for any family visiting Waynad.

I would like to make this Homestay "A must visit and stay place in wayanad". Even I feel 5 star is also less for the service, environment, love provided by Aunt Prabha and Uncle. They are really lovely people. It was 9 pm when we reached Sundara Mahal, and when we went inside the house, believe me, it had everything what a perfect homestay needs. It had even different books, showpieces and many more. Prabha treated us very nicely, even for one day we felt like we are with our Mom. They are educated people, they know the meaning of care, love and respect. Even they told us about their experiences, and also guided us for the places to visit in Wayanad. A must visit place. We go to places to explore new things and witness the site seeing. But in Wayanad it's not only that, there is more. Sundara Mahal is a home stay located near kalpetta. It is not only a place to stay but a place where you will feel like home. Prabha was our host. She and her husband had given us a warmth feeling. They have helped us plan our next day tour in a proper way as they they knew about certain places which we were not. Apart from there great gesture, the house itself holds a beauty in it. They had a huge collection of different kind of books. And artefacts.They have planted so many different kinds of plants and trees all around the house. The scenic beauty in the morning was breathe taking. If you wanna stay in Wayanad, stay here. We were the 910th guest in sundara Mahal. And we loved it.

I arrived in Kalpetta on a work trip with little clue as to what to expect, and in need of help with logistics and contacts. Prabha was amazing: she helped me find my way around, connected me with people who could help, and was a perfect host. The home is a stunning heritage building, full of the most amazing objects and architectural details. There is a beautiful garden with splendid flowers, and the plants keep you cool even when it's hot outside. The food was excellent, and so was the conversation with the hosting couple. It felt like I had known them for a long time. When I was a kid, visiting my grandma in the mountains in South Italy in summer, I used to be so amazed by fireflies (and try to catch them). So now, wherever I see them—there's plenty in new York in summer, for instance—I always feel at once amazed, and at home. At Sundara Mahal, I didn't just see a firefly: I found one lighting up by the bathroom ceiling one night! I took it of as the ultimate sign that I was right to feel at home. If you ever find yourself around Kalpetta, don't miss the chance to stay here. You'll be very happy you did.

Staying in Sundara Mahal is something that cannot be described, it has to be experienced. Prabha and Murali were like family members. We connected with them from the time we saw them greeting us on arrival. We had an instant bonding and that is truly because of the warm nature of both of them to make us feel at home. Every single person in our group enjoyed their company and that just goes to show how good they are able to adjust. Someone coming into your house and making demands is not an easy thing to handle. Whenever we went outside to see any place, the thought on our minds was how soon can we return back to Sundara Manhal home (not homestay). Very unusual of our group since we are the kind who want to maximize any travel vacation. We are a difficult group to handle. In this trip, everyone was so happy and that is only because of our new friends. Food was so good, I was telling everyone there is now lot of pressure at home to keep up to that standard. Authentic home made food with too much of variety. We all were like a big family eating together. We have got totally spoilt in every way (food, comfort, fun, relaxation). Prabha and Murali's stamina and smiling personality is something we can try to learn and practice. We will cherish the personal relationship that we were able to establish. Being with such good people is something that will remove all the stress that we may have. Prabha's mother was a calming influence on all of us. My goal is to get as many of my friends and relatives to experience the hospitality of Prabha and Murali.
