Heavy rush during weekends and holidays making road block by heavy vehicles as the road is narrow. Most people are not wearing mask during this pandemic situation. Car parking available for Rs 50 which is 300 metres away from entrance. Try to visit during week days to avoid the rush and enjoy the natural beauty.

We visited the lake around 9:30 AM and the weather was surprisingly bright and sunny, though the prediction was thunder storm. It was one of the most peaceful time we had in Vythiri, water to one side, wild trees with twisted twigs and branches like ropes on the other side. In fact there is a rope like swing and you can actually swing on it. Clicked lots of pictures as we went around the lake on the jogging path. The place is reasonably kept clean, though we could see empty plastic bottles and ice-cream packets lying around. There are CCTv cameras fitted around the park too for everyone's safety.

The lake provides space to Panamaram, a small rivulet that becomes Kabani River to originate. The Pookode Lake is spreading across an area of 8.5 hectares with a depth of around 6.5 meters. Geographical experts found that the lake resembles the shape of India’s map. It is a perennial fresh water lake protected by the forested hills and it acts as a haven for fresh water fish and a lot of blue lotus flowers. In some Wayanad tour packages visit to this is place is included while in some you have to go by your own.

Pookede lake was near where we stay. So first we visited this lake and it was not weekends unfortunately so it was not crowded much. The ambience was peaceful you can roam around if you don't want to go boating.

Calm shallow water, ideal for learning to swim. Thers a small shop near by lending tubes on rent. Really usefull for those who doesn't know to swim but want to enjoy.

The lake is surrounded by forest and we can see green all around, making this place an ideal location for photographers and nature lovers. It is almost 2100 meters above the sea level. We can see some wild animal and birds near the surrounding forest. Plenty of monkeys are also seen here. Pookode Lake opening time is 9 AM, and it closes by 5 PM. Boating timings are also from 9 AM to 5 PM, but entry closes by 4.30 PM There are boating facilities for the tourist in the Pookkode Lake. The pedal boats and rowboats take you on a tour around the serene environment of the lake. Boating in the lake, viewing the stunning beauty of the lake is a unique experience. Entry fee for the Pookkode lake is Rs. 30. Boating will be separate. We can also visit the freshwater aquarium within the premises. Pookode Lake aquarium comprises a small display of an array of freshwater fishes. One Fish Spa is there near to the aquarium. It was a nice place. The best part is to reach as early as possible. We started our journey to Kerala with this place. This place sells mango and other fruits in lime water which is next level. We saw some local stores there as well. Got a nice iron boy playing guitar (shared the photo here). It was lovely experience. We did boating, 3 people for 450. I don't know what to say about that. It was not that fun and it did not make any difference to my visit. The lake was not clean as well and it was stinking. The life jackets were smelly super sweaty. While coming out we saw a huge line of people standing at the ticket counter. It was not a worthy trip as you don't get to do anything else. You do need to walk few meters to reach there.

A very nice lake to visit in waynad. Paddle and row boating available. Paddle boating is very enjoyable. The lake has beautiful scenic views. You can also take a cycle to go all around the lake and click pictures. There is also a nice aquarium present in the complex.

We visited this lake in December 2018. Pookode Lake, also known as Pookot Lake, is a very pretty fresh water lake just 3 km from Vythiri Village in the Wayanad district of North Kerala. There are boating facilities available at the lake. Row boats can be hired for ₹350 for half an hour, and pedal boats for ₹200 (4 seater), and ₹100 (2 seater) for 20 minutes. There is also a nicely wooded walking track encircling the lake. Snacks and souvenirs can be bought from the shops at the entrance.

A beautiful lake very close to Lakkidi view point. The USP of this lake is that it is surrounded by lush green forests and hills on three sides giving it a fantastic look. If you are going from Bangalore then please don’t go and waste your time as Bangalore has many better lakes than this lake. The area was not at all maintained although it had entry ticket and activities charges separately but it didn’t look like any of that used here. All kids area looked dirty and covered with greens. Parking is almost 200 meters from gate although charges are nominal Rs 50. See the fungus all built up in lake in my pictures.
