Situated
in
the
thriving
Wayanad
District
of
Kerala
and
present
on
both
sides
of
the
Karapuzha
River,
Karapuzha
Dam
is
one
of
the
largest
earth
dams
in
India.
The
gushing
water,
swamped
hills,
scenic
environment,
and
leafy
islands
make
it
a
perfect
spot
for
aquatic
birds
and
a
charming
place
for
the
tourists.
Here,
the
water
is
158
feet
deep
and
the
dam
can
be
visited
during
the
day
preferably
because
the
visibility
gets
low
at
dawn.
This
man-made
marvel
with
its
lush
green
surroundings
and
birds
around
is
a
great
place
to
go
to
in
order
to
unwind
and
relax
amidst
the
natural
surroundings.
The
construction
of
the
Karapuzha
Dam
began
in
1977
and
got
over
by
2004
for
irrigation
purposes.
However,
the
tourism
department
developed
the
area
around
the
dam
by
constructing
an
aquarium
here
and
starting
boating
as
well
as
canoeing
facilities
at
the
spot.
One
can
take
nature
walks
in
the
countryside
and
click
pictures
of
the
beautiful
and
unique
birds
which
fly
around
here.
During
the
monsoon
season,
the
water
in
Karapuzha
Dam
reaches
to
the
brim
making
the
scene
quite
amazing.
The
dam
remains
open
throughout
the
year
and
is
definitely
worth
a
visit.
