It is the only wildlife sanctuary in kannur District, situated near kottiyur forest area sharing borders with Karnataka forest. The main tourist spot here is meenmutty waterfalls which is located at a distance of 15 km from forest entry point. The main source to reach this spot is through Jeep Ride which is available next to forest ticket office. Or else self owned Four-Wheels are accepted at owners risk. The Sanctuary is well known for Wild Elephant, Tiger, Deer,Bear, and hosts 100 plus varieties of Butterflies during Migrating season.Forest Tour Guide will be Accompanied with us during the Treking. It's a Deep forest which only permits tourist till 2PM , jeep ride almost cost 1200 for maximum 7person and ticket fare is 115 rs for adults during the time i visited. As it gives a positive energy while walking through the forest and was able to spot tiger paws, Deer paws. After 8 km from starting point there is a Watch Tower which provides a wide view of the Cheenkanni River as well as the forest. It us a varied variety of plantations animals and other small small incests.Good place for trecking enthusiast..We had chosen Jeep safari through the forest till the watch tower...you can climb on top of the watch tower the view from there is awesome...If you love to walk through the forest with fresh air and silence from out side world...its a good option...They have got option for over night stay also...

This place is a good destination for nature lovers. Situated close to Aralam farm in Kannur. Trekking is allowed along with a guide through the outer part of the sanctuary.Public are not allowed into the buffer and cote zones of the sanctuary. Trekking can be either on for for about 2-3 km into the forest from the entrance or on jeep for about 9km to Pottanpalvu Watchtower. The jeep used to go for about 15 Km till Meenmutti waterfalls, but this route has been close for last 6 months due to bad condition of the road. It may take a few more months this to resume. One can enjoy the view of forest and Chikkani river while trekking. There are elephants and tigers in the sanctuary but animal sightings are rare except for monkeys and squirrels. The forest Butterflies can be sighted in the season. The entrance fee along with guide for 2 person was 530 rupees. The jeep ride to Pottanplavu is Rs. 1200 for a 7 seater jeep and will be around Rs. 2500 to Meenmutty waterfalls if the route is cleared.

if you're planning to visit here, first of all a guide will be with you through out the journey . 1 guide 5 visitors ( minimum) if you came along with one person, no matter you need to pay 500 + 45( minimum for one guide). you can walk into forest with guide about 2 kilometres and that's not much interesting. if you visited with alto, eon or such low profile cars , then you can only get into forest about 2km only.. please bring cars such as suv, nexon or something, then you can go up to 7km car charge is 100.

Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary is the northernmost wildlife sanctuary of Kerala, southwest India. It is 55 km² in area and located on the western slope of the Western Ghats. It was established in 1984. The headquarters of the sanctuary is near Iritty. It's the only wildlife sanctuary in Kannur. Camping is allowed with proper permissions from the authority. A variety of species includes some endangered ones. Fresh air. Fresh water. It's nice to be with Mother Nature for sometime

It is 2km forest (river side) walk with a guide. Easy to walk, no climbs or dips. You can walk with family. But you will rarely spot any animals. Rs.115 is the entry fee. There needs to be atleast 5 people to start the walk (or you can pay the fee of 5 people to walk alone). There is a small number of hairy catterpillars hanging from trees and leeches. You can bring your own vehicles instead of walking. You can go upto 8km if you have a vehicle. It is better to bring an SUV. Otherwise they won't allow you to get in. Even though the path is non paved, it is easy for vehicles to drive through. You need to pay an extra 100Rs to take vehicle inside. You can also hire a Jeep from somewhere outside if you need. IDK where you can get jeep service. There is a hanging bridge outside the entry point which is very fun to walk over. Never miss it when you visit this place.

The sanctuary is well-maintained and offers visitors a chance to observe wildlife in their natural habitat. The trails are well-marked and there are knowledgeable guides available who can provide information about the different species and their behaviors. The lush greenery and serene atmosphere of the sanctuary make it a perfect place for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. I was lucky enough to spot several elephants during my visit and it was an incredible experience to see these majestic animals up close. This is a must-visit for anyone interested in exploring and appreciating the natural beauty of Kerala. It offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in nature and learn more about the rich biodiversity of the region.

Dense forest and home for butterflies. Don't expect animals while walking or driving. If you are lucky you can see them but they can see all things from the forest. 2 km we can walk along with a guide which will be provided by the Forest department. Up to 9 km you can drive if and only if you have SUVs with high ground clearance or need to take support of local vehicle.

Tranquil , it's a beautiful place with a serene and calm environment with a small stream passing by. Since it was Monsoon the day we went we had no one around. There is an entry fee of 115 and additional charge of 100 if you want to take the vehicle in. We were allowed to see only 2 km inside the sanctuary. We didn't sight any wild animals. Just take care of leeche bites.

Aralam wildlife sanctuary is the only one wild life sanctuary in kannur. 60-70 km far from kannur city and there is farm adjacent to Aralam wild life sanctuary.December is the best time to visit because in these period you get chance to see butterfly migration. There is information centre about wildlife by forest departmentAaralam, a sanctuary located at the extreme end of north Kerala, probably the last sanctuary towards the northern side of the state. Due to specifics of the geography and vegetation it breeds close to 327 species of butterflies among the 1500 odd species you find in India and 17000 Species world wide. Heaven on earth, lush green, clean water ,fresh air and untouched by human public.Good place for nature lovers. This site is located interior and little away from city side. Nature is well protected and preserved. Travel inside sanctuary is in jeep. Its a bit hectic one but still enjoyed ride into the deep forest. Good spots to take photos. Do not visit during rainy season because its heavy risk. Beware of leechs too. Water fall was a fantastic site. Very pure and crystal clear water.....

Entry pass rate is ₹115 which i think is bit higher(students have to pay only ₹40, with a letter from the organisation head/principal.Dont know much about that). One guide will be provided. If you have to go 8km inside(normal 2km) you have to pick vehicle from there or you can use your own vehicle. For this also a payment should be made in counter. Most importantly if you are coming with less than 5 people ,you should pay entry fee for 5 people(for 5 people 1 guide)

Good place. It is truly a wondrous sight to behold – enjoy the exotic array of flora and fauna, catch a glimpse of jumbo elephants and witness the Nilgiri langurs playing on trees. The serenity of the deep forests also provides a salve to weary souls and gives you an opportunity to truly enjoy an idyllic holiday.

Serene peaceful. Trees are so huge and the creek is music to heart. For urban Indians it's a retreat from rush of life. The place teaches us to slow down.

One of the beautiful thick evergreen forest region, shelter for various wild lives. However ordinary travelers can't expect extraordinary thrilling trucking experience. I visited the sanctuary in the month of January. During this season the presence of Albatross butterflies around the region - as part of their long distant migration - is a delightful experience. Rarely only travelers will get the chance to meet wild creatures.

Aralam Wild Life Sanctuary is very think forest with fully covered canopy . It has the diversity of tigers and elephants but animals have less mobility because of thick character of forest . Cheenkanni puzha is the lush cool river flowing through sanctuary give a meditative mind for everyone who loves nature . We found birds of malabar gray hornbill , malabar pide hornbill , Greater Hornbill , malabar wood shrike , yellow browerd bullbull , scops owl (owl species and hornbill are rich in numbers ) and other small animals like civet jungle cat , sambar deer , are common but hard to find because of high thickness nature. I seen some sambar deer only , but somany indications of tiger is seened. Best time to visit is december last and january first weeks because of high amount of butterfly migration . Don't miss it . Thank you .

We loved the 5 km walk (back and forth) with our guide - it was full of lush green trees and super twisty vines, we spotted many different kinds of wild mushrooms and the sound and feel of the river was calming and refreshing. We also saw quite a few Malabar squirrels (who have a sweet musical call!) and monkeys. We were told by forest guards that wild elephants had crossed that path just a while back and we were cautious to not disturb them (but we could smell them). True to its ecotourism nature - this was a place for its natural residents and not commercialised for human consumption. Some things to know - it opens at 9 am and while our guide was lovely, I wish we had a common language to talk (English/Hindi in our case). You could also hire a jeep and do a 15 km drive around the park and climb the watch tower.

Government should reduce the entrance fee and guide charges. Its around RS 115 per person and you will be accompanied by forest guide which cost additional. If you are using your own vehicle you can drive only 2 km. And if opting jeep service it will cost around RS 1100 and they will take 8 km inside the forest area.

Entry fee 115₹ You'll have to rent a jeep for the journey to the watch tower inside the sanctuary approx 8+Km. Private vehicles are allowed but limited to 3 km inside the jungle.

Thick forest, seen monkeys, butterflies and some small animals. Guard said there are elephants, tigers, leopards and all in the forest, sometimes they were able to see. Anyway very beautiful place. You need to get a 4wheel drive vehicle to go in there. Either you can get your own or can hire one. There is a charge for visit and a guard will come along with tourists.

Great place . Gypsy safari is costly. But it's worth the cost of you're extremely lucky. Bus safari also good. Chance to see animals purely depends on luck. Many deers, elephants, Indian gaur, wild boars, sometimes bear and very very very rarely tigers can be seen. Evening there's elephant feeding at the elephant camp, just 100m from the national park reception. It's fun. Must visit there too.

Completely untouched forest. On our safari 5 forest Dept guys had to come and clear a fallen tree on the route which took nearly an hour. Lots of trees had fallen due to heavy rains. We even saw a sambar deer body which was recently killed by a big cat not sure which one. Watchtower view is amazing. Small trek to the stream was the highlight of the safari. It's a half an hour trek, very slippery but worth it. Small straems throughout the safari route are wonderful to watch. Would recommend it for nature lovers. Get the guide named Biju, he is very knowledgeable.

When we went there , we were allowed only till watchtower. There are no forest dept jeeps that you can hire as mentioned in their website. You need to arrange a pvt jeep, the employees there can help you with contact. Our driver charged us Rs 1100 for 8 km up and down offroad ride. Entry fee to the sanctuary is 115 per head, but this charge is for min 5 people. So if you are just 2 or 3 , you still need to pay 500 + (15 per head ) . Vehicle entry charge is extra. We spotted only a squirrel. No other animals. The staff said they have tigers and leopard, but we didn't find any. Our trip was not worth for the Rs 1700 we spent.
