    Great experience beyond just the great food. This is a set course restaurant where every dish is presented like a tapas. Expect great variety of international dishes. Every dish has a unique twist, nothing is really prepared the traditional way, and has its own story or anecdote related. The chef is sure to entertain with his story telling and cooking tricks (liquid nitrogen was a favorite). The format is six people sitting around the counter watching the chef 👨‍🍳 do their magic so might not be appropriate for a romantic face-to-face. Highly recommend to experience at least once. If the menu has Montreal-style wagyu, jump on it!

    Great dinner and entertainment. Unique experience. [Keywords] Original, molecular world cuisine, entertainment, counter style, interactive, friendly and fancy. [Reservation] We made reservation via phone call, around a month earlier. During the phone call, we were asked if we are celebrating a special day. If you are celebrating a special day, you are also asked to send information about celebration in email (in our case birthday girl’s name). During the phone call, we were informed about the price. Then, they sent an email for confirmation. [Arrive 30 min early] It is recommended to arrive half an hour early and wait at the fancy lounge while having a drink. Drinks costs around 2000 yen. If you are lucky, you can even get a seat next to window. I added a photo of the lounge to show the atmosphere. It is quite nice, and mostly have women having tea time or drinks. [Restrooms :)] Check out the restrooms with Sky tree & Tokyo view on the same floor. I have added a photo for the view. [Experience & Atmosphere] Chef was raised in Canada, so he speaks fluent English. If you are foreigner you don’t have a reason to worry. He cooks, prepares plates, and explains everything in English right in front of you. You will be sitting at a counter. The maximum number of customers is eight. Food is delicious and original, generally prepared by combining different cooking methods or different dishes together. Story telling makes evening even better. It is a very interactive experience. You are allowed to take any video or photo, ask questions to chef. After dinner, you can even have a bit chat and/or photo with him. In many restaurants, chefs cook in front of you without interaction, but here part of the package is interaction. If you want a dinner where you want to chat with your date or friend, this is not the right place for you. Here, chef almost speaks none stop. You are there mostly to listen his stories, and eat what he prepares. It is quite interesting and an original experience. You switch from one plate to another, and one story to another. There is not much time between plates either. At first, I was not sure whether we should spend this amount of money on food, but believe me, once you are there, you will want to spend even more :) The atmosphere is friendly and fancy at the same time. They had a small surprise for my birthday and honeymoon celebrating couple. [Customers] During our visit, one couple was on their honeymoon, three foreigners were on a business trip, we were celebrating my birthday :) and one customer was a solo traveler. Everyone seemed to have very good time. Everyone was dressed smart casual. [Food] We enjoyed all dishes very much, but some of them were just too good. We loved the originality that brought different cooking methods and different dishes together. Highlights were fancy donut with mascarpone and caviar, lobster bourguignon, white goscht, eggs Benedict (with surprise element), and white winter. Super happy to see menu accommodates food from different countries, as it is a bit tiring to eat only traditional dishes from certain western countries. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Especially if you enjoy original experiences and have an interest in cooking. It is worth the price. It is not just food. It is also entertainment. I don’t recommend here if you want to have a conversation with your partner.

    Probably the best restaurant I have been. It wasn’t boring or slow like other high end restaurants such as 3 starred Michelin restaurants. It was entertaining and the dishes were cooked to the absolute perfection. The chef describes each pieces of his dishes as “art”. And I agree as every dish are finessed to the finest detail. It was entertaining as well with different creative cooking techniques such as liquid nitrogen sorbet which was delicious. I absolutely love this restaurant however you would need to book in advance since there are only eight seats. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone for dinner.

    A unique dining experience. Many creative dishes served with a flourish. Makes for an entertaining evening. Highly recommended if you can afford it. Arrive early for a drink by the window. The views are extraordinary. And definitely check out the amazing washrooms; they have the world's best views from a urinal!

    A really creative experience with the chef providing their menu through a storybook (this was at the time of visit). The chef explained each dish carefully with the ingredients used. While the food was above average, the portions were small, and the overall value didn't match the price. The chef sets the tempo of the dishes but I found that several dishes arrived at inconsistent pacing with varying intervals. Some dishes also required immediate consumption. This may not suit everyone's dining preferences. The immersive aspect also fell a bit short, with limited moments of true immersive interaction. There were also repetitive moments like opening chests. Additionally, we did not like their forcefulness to purchase drinks. Even requesting a glass of water was met with a 1,500 yen charge. Some wines glasses were cheaper than that. Lastly, the service lacked finesse, with waitstaff intrusively approaching when taking photos or mid-conversations with others nearby.

    This man Kento Ushikubo is a true genius, and the whole experience is SO MUCH FUN! He interacts with everyone, bouncing back and forth between english and japanese while putting the finishing touches on food that is gobsmakingly delicious. Ive been to other places that play around with art/technology/food, but they dont come close to the deliciousness of this food. A really special place.🚀🚀🚀

    2/5 The experience was great but the food did not wow me one bit. I get that most of the appeal of this place might be the entertainment or gimmick but if you’re going to a restaurant for that, you’re better off paying for an amusement park. The food itself was above average at best but given the VALUE for what you’re paying for, it’s quite mediocre. It’s expensive and at $200 USD I expect to be wow’d for at least 80% of the dishes but was wow’d zero times. Didn’t even bother taking pictures since I just wanted to leave halfway through.

    The best culinary experience I've had so far. The chef takes you on an around the world journey - you'll get to taste incredible dishes inspired by typical flavours from different corners of the world. The setting itself is perfect - you're sitting in a group of 8 in front of the chef while he is preparing the plates and explaining everything. You'll be blown away.

    This was the best meal of my life. The food was so amazing I forgot about the wine it was pared with. Everyone of my four person party had a great time. Each dish has a story that goes with it about how the dish was thought up of and how the best ingredients were obtained to make it. It goes to show how much care and passion were put into this food.

    One of the most interesting meals I’ve ever had. The food was tasty and innovative and the techniques fun and surprising. You’ll be seated at a bar at the kitchen watching the chef prepare your meal as he explains his process and philosophy. A mix of french and Japanese influences mostly, all with a fun twist. The menu was presented on a measuring tape if that’s any indication of how unconventional this meal is. The only thing I didn’t like was a “Peking duck” where the “skin” was actually bean curd. The crispy skin is the best part of Peking duck so not something that should be messed with for the sake of experimentation at the expense of flavour.

    The experience is incredible good and interesting. The chef is giving one of the best explanations of the dishes I have gotten so far at Michelin restaurants. First, the location is incredible. The view from the 38th floor is almost alone worth the visit, so do arrive early and enjoy it with a drink. The food is great, presented very well and tasteful. The chef explains every dish and provides a very creative and fun dining experience. Some of the dishes could have been more exciting, tasted a bit more. But they where all good. We had the moctail pairing and it was good. However the waitress explaining the drinks spoke very low and it was difficult to hear what it was. The drinks was not timed with the dishes and would arrive almost randomly during the meal. All in all it was a fun, interesting and creative dinner. A bit on the pricey side, it has the same price tag as many 3 star restaurants.

    My wife and I visited Tapas Molecular Bar in August '23 as part of our first wedding anniversary vacation. This was a fun/playful dining experience as the chef takes you through a tasting menu in which each dish is paired with an illustration from a picture book that the chef created himself. The counter seating is great - you get just the right amount of interaction with the chefs while watching them work. I can't really understand the (few) criticisms I've seen as far as the food is concerned. We thought the food was simply spectacular, marked by bold flavors and expert technique (the sous chef created a hot sauce for one of the dishes that was perhaps the best hot sauce we've had anywhere). This is a stellar option for a special occasion!

    A lot of fun. Not the best food in the world at this price point but certainly met expectations and the chef has clearly put his heart and soul in to the experience, which you have to admire and expect. I see some reviews here are negative. I expect they simply didn’t like the chef who is front and center throughout the meal. If you don’t like his energy you won’t enjoy the night.

    This was such an amazing experience. First of all the setting is phenomenal. So high above Tokyo, with a great view. Then your seated right in front of your chef. Such an amazing experience, once in a lifetime type experience. The best part was the food was amazing, along with whimsical. Everything so well thought out and the best part was the ability to talk and share thoughts with the chef. Such a great experience. Wasn't cheap, but would definitely recommend!

    Dined with tapas molecular bar in 2018 and they were fantastic. Made changes to the menu to cater for my gluten allergy and the meal was fantastic. Fast forward to today. Firstly contacted them in October 2022 to reserve a table and were told we could only do so 2 months in advance. We contacted them 2 months in advance and we were told that there was no avalibility, it turned out that they changed their policies in January 2023 to allow bookings three months in advance, but did not think to let us know. Eventually the reservations manager found us a date to attend, however we were then informed “ According to Chef, indeed, until 2018, we were able to accommodate guests with special allergies, such as gluten-free etc. However, From 2019’s, they are unable to accommodate Vegetarian, Vegan, Kosher, Halal, No eggs, No dairy products intolerance or No gluten request as this will change the concept and dining experience” This is absolutely appalling. It’s nothing but laziness and delivery segregating people, nothing more. My dining experience in 2018 did not suffer because I have an allergy to wheat, barley and rye so to suggest the concept and dining experience is hampered because of it is ludicrous. It’s no wonder this establishment no longer has a Michelin star. The service has been atrocious and the fact they no longer cater for one of the worlds most prominent allergies and other simple allergies is a joke. Everyone involved should feel embarrassed. Terrible experience all round - AVOID!

    Wow uhm don't even know where to begin, but I will try. This was truly worthy of the word experience. This gastronomy tasting takes place in the lobby of the Mandarin Orientals 20 something floor so you always have a view when you look around which I really appreciated. The seating is very intimate l, around 8 raised seats around a central bar/working area for the chefs so you can always see what's going on. Chef Kenton and his sous chef were so so hospitable and welcoming. They made the whole evening such an adventure, teaching us a lot about the food along the way. The dinner was first and foremost visually stunning. I was amazed by how specific textures and appearances were achieved. And Ofcourse every time there was smoke, it was my favorite! Lol. All the courses were delicious and very fun to discover the new tastes. My favorite would have to be the duck and the buttons! Not sure if we will have the opportunity to do this again but so glad to have experienced this in Tokyo during our first time in Japan. Much love from Houston!

    What can I say, hands down the best meal my boyfriend and I have ever had! The whole meal from start to finish was an exciting journey with amazing tastes and new sensations with every dish, you were constantly excited to see what was coming next. Usually, when we eat multi-course menus there's at least a couple of dishes which aren't to our taste however, in this case, every single one of the 14 courses tasted absolutely delicious. We were amazed with the textures, flavours and inventiveness of the dishes. We really loved learning about the process behind each dish before it was served and watching the chefs prepare. Chef Kento is clearly extremely talented and it was great being able to chat with him throughout the meal. I was very happy to be able to have the mocktail pairing as I don't drink a lot of alcohol and therefore often miss out on the pairing menus. Each mocktail was delicious as well! I was also given a little surprise for my birthday which was really appreciated. We really hope we can come back again someday!

    Simply astounding, this place is more of a culinary experience than a restaurant meal. We had Chef Chow guide us on this exciting journey as he started the evening with some light banter and gave a brief run down of what we were in for. It was a 14 course degustation, each course was explained in great detail by Chef Chow as he not only explained what ingredients were in the dish but also gave us wonderful insight in to the creative process behind the dish and how they came up with the ideas. Each dish was constructed with precision and was absolutely delicious, most of the dishes had a unique twist which I won't spoil here. The restaurant seats 8 people max which makes it all the more intimate and they only do two seatings per evening. Chef Chow is incredibly humble, greatful and inclusive to all staff involved in the restaurant. He is very down to earth and super easy to chat with. He even gave us his personal recommendations for restaurants in Kyoto and Tokyo! Booking here is essential also don't let the price out you off. This meal was not only the best food we have eaten in Tokyo but the greatest meal my partner and I have ever eaten and we will certainly be visiting again next time we are in Tokyo.

    Wow! What a night! We were invited to come early at 8 o’clock for an amuse-bouche. I didn’t realize where the restaurant was- in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel tower, overlooking the Tokyo Skytree. We enjoyed our amuse-bouche with a cocktail while waiting for our reservation. We had a seasonal special New Year’s menu, and it was the final day. Everything was phenomenal, and the ingredients were so lavish and exceptional: truffle, caviar, lobster and gold to name a few. The food was served at a rate that allowed you to enjoy each dish, but without having to wait half an hour between them. Each dish was a surprise, both to look at and to taste. Chef Kento clearly LOVES his job, and was very engaging with all his guests. An extremely memorable experience. I really appreciated all the food they prepared for us and the thought behind each item, from the cutlery used with each dish, the actual plates that the food was served on, to how the menu was presented (on a long tape measure!).     Top 3 dining experience of my life. The magic happens from the moment you’re seated. The ingenuity of Chef Kento’s creations are rarely seen. Flavors and concept of dishes were well thought out. Chef is very well spoken and a sharer, engaging you throughout dinner. Starters and desserts won, mains were outshined. We are coming back when there’s a new menu!

    A very interesting experience for me was the dinner that night in September 2018. I was able to book my table after several failed times, I was able to sit at the bar to watch the skillful chef with poop cooking skills. At the restaurant, he gave a detailed presentation to customers about each dish. There were about 7 people sitting at the bar, which could seat up to 10 people. The dinner took place in a very reasonable order to stimulate the taste and market.     It was an interesting and unique dinning experience as chef talked through the whole meal with explanation of each dish paring with an illustration book. I have to say this was the most expensive fine dining I ever had during my trip in Tokyo (30000yen for each) while I was not full after all dishes were served even if I’m not a big eater. Each dish was full of manipulation with gimmick but lack of the most basic thing of making customers full. Food was tasteful while not that good enough to match with the price. Another thing to upset me was chef didn’t celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday even if my boyfriend had mentioned that in his reservation in advance of one month. Chef only celebrated a couple’s anniversary with an exquisite dessert, which made me confused, wondering if only one celebration could be made in each round and what was the criteria of preference. Anyway the dining experience is special with a little bit rush (i.e.less than 2 hours for having meal as everyone has to finish each dish soon and would be served another in next minute). May need to have something else to eat thereafter. That’s it and will not have second try. Not recommend to friends.
