The richness of Church history is visible in this landmark of Kampala whihc was constructed in 1925. It is built on one of the seven hills of uganda and it was notable two bell towers that are visible from afar. There is also a very beautiful statue of Mother Mary welcoming pilgrims and the locals.

Highly historical. Located at previous palace of the Kabaka of Buganda, which was destroyed by fire. The stained glass window tells the stories of the martyrdom of the Ugandans in 1885. The oldest baptismal font in East Africa is also found here.

The Independence Monument is in many ways one of the most important pieces of Ugandaโ€™s heritage. Located along Speke road in Kampala. The Independence Monument was funded by the British Colonial government. The Independence Monument is a symbol of Ugandan history and cultural heritage. The monument was unveiled by Uganda's first Prime Minister Apollo Milton Obote on October 5, 1962, three days before Uganda's first Independence celebrations.

The independence monument is indeed the spirit of Uganda as you visibly look at it say much of the true independence Uganda achieved back from the colonial days.the place is neat and tidy.there is a enough space and the quietness and relaxation plus the feeling of independence you get while you are there make it indeed true to the name of the monument.i loved it being there.

I can say that Kampala, the capital city of Uganda is also the capital of religion in East Africa coz basing on the number of cathedrals and other notable places of worship like the Namugongo Shrine, Rubaga Cathedral, Namirembe Cathedral, Baha'i Temple and so many others it is in deed also a religion capital of the East African region. When in Kampala, create some time to visit the St Mary's Cathedral at Rubaga Hill. It is a very beautiful house of worship. I understand that at least 3 pope's have visited this church. It has so much history that you shouldn't miss. Entry to the Rubaga cathedral is FREE. You don't have to pay anything. If lucky you can also be able to see inside the church. Taking of photos is also allowed. Take as many as you can. If you have much time you can also come on Sunday for a service. One of the largest and oldest worship centers in Uganda. Its a place to visit even if you aint Catholic. And worry not, its an open place for anyone to access. Its secure as there are people always monitoring the place. But in all, its a beautiful site to visit.

Rubaga Cathdral Another Cathedral but this one is of the Catholic persuasion. Again this cathedral is located on one of Kampalaโ€™s many hills so views are great. Kampala is fabled to have 7 hills. It in fact has 22 but Rubaga is one of the original ones and, therefore, worth a visit for historical reasons. The cathedral also boasts a memorial to the first African Catholic bishop in Uganda martyred for the cause of bringing Catholicism to Uganda and is the current headquarters of the Catholic Church in Uganda.

On this 57th anniversary of the country. Its the vest time to visit the independence monument and remember the freedom we achieved. Uganda has gone through many challenges including wars & diseases but this has not crushed our spirit as a country. It's very important to recognize such landmarks which remind us of our history. Its the hope of the nation to look back on such monuments as those that stand.

RUBAGA CATHEDRAL CHURCH St Mary's Cathedral (Rubaga cathedral) a Roman Catholic church, it is located on Rubaga hill about 5 kilometres from the city centre. Rubaga hill was formerly a place of King Mutesa 1 and was donated to Bishop Birth by his successor King Mwanga in 1889. The construction started in 1914 and the completed was consecrated in 1925. The Cathedral houses the remains of the first African Catholic Bishop and the first Archbishop of Kampala Diocese, the late Archbishop Kiwanuka.

This monument to Ugandan independence features a man unwrapping & holding a child to the sky. Standing majestically at a height of 6 metres, is a must see if you are travelling to Kampala. It was constructed by former British Colonial Government just before Uganda celebrated its first independence on Tuesday 9th October 1962.

My first time entering the cathedral was a hubling experience. The sheer magnitude of the church and the splendor. The level of craftsmanship expressed in the brickwork detail surpasses any I've seen in my lifetime. It comes from an era of the industrial revolution when the skils were shiped to the coloneis. It's magnificent and authentically satisfying.
