The state of art here is peculiar, was told the glass was from Italy, and such a beautiful view of Kampala city and all the six hills. Breathe taking. A must visit while in Kampala

A beautifully constructed mosque that should be on the top of your list of activities to do in Kampala! The interiors have some great stained windows and decor and the views from the top are spectacular. Highly recommend.

One of the magnificent constructions in Uganda. You feel you belong to this place and don't go outside . A holy place that holds up the prayers of millions of people. This building looks great both by day and by night. Very nicely preserved and serves its purpose to so many. An iconic spot and a landmark of Kampala. A combination of what cannot be combined. Gift from moamar algadaffi former president of Libya to Ugandan muslim community

A great mosque. The location of the mosque is well chosen. I was on coming from Bahi's Temple on a Motorbike and could see the mosque from distance. I went inside the tower, couldn't climb till top but I am sure if someone goes up, they will.have a great view of the city. They said it was built by the financial support of Gaddafi, the dictator from Libia. Before that the same project was left for many years.

Beautiful mosque. Materials were brought from Italy, India and neighboring African countries. For tourists entrance fee is 25 thousand shillings. There is parking for many cars. Be sure to climb the minaret, from there for a beautiful view of the city.

Very rich history, amazing architecture and very good guide. They offer the cover up linen which is a part of the fee and guide you through the mosque. The stairs is the rral experience where you will get a 360 degree view of Kampala where the guide will also give you a bit of history and educate you about the hills. Loved it!

My initial attraction to the mosque was due to fact that its one place in kampala where you can get a 360 view of the city from the minaret. After getting the opportunity to tour the building with my guide Yusuf it was clear that the building was also beautiful and architecturally interesting. The interior combines 3 influences- the wood representing african structures, the pane glasses and doors from Italy - European architecture and the lamps/lights from Egypt the Arabic influence. Another important thing about the mosque is that its located on one of 7 initial hills kampala was founed on. In this case the old kampala hill. Definitely worth a visit

Big mosque with great views. Even if you're not going to pray it's something to do in Kampala. The compound where the mosque is located has shops that sell prayer mats, Qurans, outfits etc.

The Uganda National Mosque is in the Old Kampala area which is slightly out of the main town and a walkable distance. Any Boda Boda guy in town knows this place. Just as them to take you to Gadaffi Mosque or you can use maps to guide you to the mosque. When you get to the mosque, you first go to the Tourists Office which is just next to the gate when you get inside the mosque compound. you will pay the entry fees. If you are Ugandan or East African it is 10,000ugx. If you are a Non East African it is 20,000ugx. For students it is half the rate like 5000 Ugx for Ugandan/East African students. Ladies are given a scarf to cover their hair. And if you have a short dress they also give you something to cover your legs as well. You will be assigned a guide who will show you around the mosque. When I visited there was some repairs in most parts of the mosque so we didn't get to see many places. Again check the time you are going. I would suggest going at 2pm(between lunch hour prayers and 4pm prayers) The Minaret has over 200 stairs. If you have a thing for height. It is not so much of your thing. However I suggest when climbing the stairs up the Minaret don't look down. Just concentrate on climbing and being safe. From up there you see the whole of Kampala City. It is so impressive and a MUST DO THING when in Kampala. Taking of photos at the mosque is allowed. So take as many as you can. Enjoy your time at the mosque. I really liked this place not because of the place is great but because of the rich history. Reminded me of the friendship of two dictators, Mr Idi Amin Dada and Muammaar Gaddafi. If you want to go to the top floor and the tower, you’ll have to pay some amount and they will provide you a guide. And they wouldn’t allow you to take photos without their prior permission. I went up and took some photos with my camera which caught attention of one of the caretakers and he made me explain to the officials why I did so. Good thing is that they allowed me to take photographs. I could not go inside because of the COVID and all. I wish it was open and so I could see the interiors too.

This is one of the main historical tourist attractions in Uganda. It’s definitely worth paying a visit. You don’t need to worry much about the dress code when visiting the mosque since the tourist office offers one decent coverups; one for your hair and the other one for your bottom.

While in Kampala this landmark is a must to visit, particularly if you like architecture and learning about other religions. The design and beauty of the mosque is spectacular. On arrival we were asked to wear a scarf and because we were also wearing trousers we were provided with a wrap around skirt. Then we were allocated to a guide for our visit. After visiting the main lower areas of the mosque we then walking up a few hundred stairs to the top of the mosque, which gave us a 360 degree view of Kampala. When you arrive you will be allocated to a guide, which makes the visit more informative.

There are only a handful of truly beautiful buildings in this city, and this is definitely one. The soaring arch and minerat are spectacular, and the high ceilings and thick carpets on the inside give you a powerful sense of your small place in a wonderful world.

The tour guide was not that enthusiastic about her job, nor were the guys in the tent where you sign in. Be prepared to remove your shoes. If it's wet, so will be your socks. I get it, respectful, just be ready for it. Inside is very impressive. They allowed us to walk about and take pictures. We went up the tower. Impressive view of city. Really beautiful mosque. The architecture, brilliant! You can really sense the sense respect and reverence as soon as you walk in. The taking off your shoes or being decently dressed and how you just feel the urge to humble yourself. Regardless of what religion you have, you still feel that sense of humility and being sober. Really great experience ngl. The history ad detail behind everything in the mosque was really nice. Wood from Italy 🇮🇹, carpet from Morocco 🇲🇦, something from Congo 🇨🇩 the chandelier frkm another country and so many other pieces of the mosque from so many other counties, coming together to form this really beautiful mosque. Really neat! The view from the top of the mosque is also really impeccable. You know what, here are the pictures 👇🏾

The biggest masjid I’ve been to. Apparently is the biggest/second biggest in East Africa (iro capacity). Apparently the foundation was started by Idi Amin in the 70s, then construction was halted. In the early 2000s Muammar Gadaffi sponsored the rebuilding of it. Climbing the minaret is quite an adventure.
