I want to commend the staff at Marriott for their outstanding hospitality, kindness and professionalism, in general, and especially when dealing with (a very travel weary) guest such as myself. Thank you for letting me have an early check-in. The bed was comfortable, room was spacious and clean. I did miss having more than one electric socket, in the bathroom especially, and regrettably the shower curtain stuck to me when in the shower. But the stone oven pizza was simply amazing, and the breakfast was superior with everything you could wish for. I hope to stay with you again!

It's a nice place worth of the four stars. You're guaranteed to have the wow especially from this place. It's a calm from the hustle just a few kilometers from Town. Strategic location to access all the places you want, and perfect rooms for rest.

I had a pleasant stay at Protea Hotel by Marriott Kampala for a week-long business conference. The room was spacious and cozy, and the environment was conducive for learning. The place was quiet and peaceful, allowing us to concentrate on our sessions. I appreciated the cleanliness of the hotel and the attention of the staff. They were engaging and professional, and made us feel welcome. The food was delicious and varied, and the air quality was good and fresh. There was no smoke or dust that could irritate our lungs. I was comfortable and happy throughout my stay.

Excellent service, decent food, and fantastic routine offers now and then. However, the conference block should have had an elevator. Sometimes, the stairs are unbearable when using the top floors for meetings. Overall, the hotel has Decent conference services.

Went for a birthday party. Lovely space decor but the aircon wasn't effective so we were all sweating like crazy and the fact that the sun sets directly into that hall didn't help!! The food was nice but the logic of putting plates on the table yet it was a buffet baffled me πŸ€” Initially the waiters were on point with the service but as the day went on, the service exponentially deteriorated!

Solid 3 star hotel. Staff was great at the restaurant but front desk staff seemed a little untrained and tired. Was upgraded to a suite as a Platinum member. Decent room but the AC was noisy, wifi was slow barely worked (kept disconnecting on and off) and the hot water only lasted about 4-5 minutes. Gym was pretty tired and old with only the treadmills plugged in but there was AC which was nice. Breakfast was great with staff there who were very friendly. Location was just outside the city center away from the crowded city which was great and right next to park.

I seriously wonder why this hotel has got 4+ star ratings and reviews. For me it was a big disappointment especially I booked looking at 4 stars & as it was under Marriott brand. Some positives and negatives: The negatives: 1. The old Protea Hotel is just re-branded as Marriott with absolutely no change in the old property. 2. The reception area is very very basic like a bed and breakfast type of hotel. The rooms are dated with old carpet and very basic furnishing. 3. The funniest part is the window positioning, the sliding windows are so up and high, you can barely have outside view. 4. The AC units are extremely old and need immediate replacement. They are very noisy especially in the nights. 5. The lighting in the room is very poor. Positives: 1. The breakfast menu is very good with decent spread. 2. The restaurant food is very good. 3. The cleanliness of the property is superb. So if you want to stay at this property assume that you are opting for a bed & breakfast hotel.

Love the front view restaurant setup. Will suggest you to just order the platter and drinks from the menu if you are with friends in the evening. Pretty chilled and relaxed place. Their rooftop bar is topnotch with a killer view. The Junior Suite has a great view of Kampala. Great service as well. πŸ‘Œ

Clean rooms. Great place for outdoor events. Free WiFi. You can make payments using credit card. I would recommend anyone to visit.

This hotel has everything you need, starting from nice, tidy and cozy rooms, the breakfast is amazing with amazing conti selection and a touch of Indian food, they have a pizza place made in mud oven, the pizza selection is out of this world, ice cold beers and a superb attention, I recomend this hotel for your stay at Kampala, they have a timely room service and staff is always willing to give you the best options!

We had a wedding in the gardens I avoided drinks because of the distance to the toilets or God. We had an old lady from Arua she failed to access the Ladies. Is there a way 2 toilets can be embroiled for people who use the gardens

Disgusted by the poor state of rooms!!! But even more by the GMs arrogant defensive attitude. Disrepair is evident lack of diligence in the leadership. Tattered linen, curtain would not close, fridge broken. And this was in a junior suite! The real surprise was the nonchalant response from the GM making a lazy offer of a free meal and "good service". What a poor un-service minded response to an unhappy Platinum Elite Member of Marriot. Real spit in the face. I was horrified and checked out after one night.

Breakfast buffet was lacking with choices and amount. I understand it is due to lack of guests being present in the hotel but it was a little sad seeing all the choices run out. The scenery is nice especially with the roaming Guinea fowl! Staff is great and where you eat is like a hidden oasis! Two stars off due to lack of choice and quantity of food.

Great Internet and excellent service in the hotel. Disadvantages, no taxis, shops are 20 minutes walk, and no breakfast buffet. I moved to the Golf Course hotel for greater convenience but worse Internet.

Found it quite low key for a "by Marriot" brand. At the request of the hotel: Staff was friendly and forthcoming. However, the carpet in the room was filthy, the curtains didn't properly open and close, I accidentally ripped off one of the runners, guess it needs a bit of lubricant on the rail. The bed is quite small, not king- or queen size, and room is quite large. However, there's nothing in it. As if you're moving house. Not a pleasant environment. The closets in my room had only hanging rails, no shelves. The bathroom shower moves during shower so you have to keep on adjusting the shower-head. TV channels are limited but TV was too scratched anyway to watch. However, credit to the staff, they did replace the TV. Finally, surroundings very noisy because of ongoing construction on both sides of the hotel.

Excellent food, great staff. A bit dated as it is not new, but well maintained and clean. Within a few miles of the city centre, ideal for business travellers who do not want / afford the very top end of the market with top end prices. I will stay there again any time I am in Kampala for work.

My experience with the hotel management was not that good. We booked Protea to hold a function which was to begin at 9 a.m. Our events manager was there the night before to set up and ensure things would run smoothly - they did not. We arrived at around 8 a.m. and our events manager was already onsite and everything from her end was organised but the hotel people were hardly there. They started setting up the platform that morning and our guests came in before it was completed. They used some material to cover it, but did not paste it down well, so the people on the platform kept getting their shoes stuck in the flaps ... Their person responsible for IT, for connecting our machines, did not turn up till towards 9 a.m. and he was very unapologetic - so was management - they insisted he was on site from 7.30 am ... uhmm ... so the lady we had hired to lead us in worship could not do a thing - her machines were not connected to the hotel system till well into the graduation. As for the food, although it was passable, they ignored our choice of menu - they changed the items without any consultations, and even served some dishes we had specifically asked them not to serve. I did not visit their rooms or other hotel areas. I came away a very unhappy guest. I will not take a function there again.

Recently we arrived at the Protea in Kampala where we had booked a twin room with two single beds and paid for it two weeks in advance. The room was not ready and my sister-law who has an injured leg we were left standing for 45 minutes in the foya. When arriving at our room the sofa was now turned into a bed so we were unable to close the bedroom door because the sofa was to wide. The linen was not suitable for the newly made sofa bed and also had inappropriate pillows. The staff at reception were not helpful but room service was fantastic. My sister-law is African and is very proud of her heritage and was disappointed for her country. Also our travel agent was humiliated because this is a reflection on his business .His runs an amazing travel agency and is a very proud man and we felt disappointed for him. Our clothes were sent for washing and came back damaged .On leaving we asked reception staff to charge our phone really not interested, on return both still flat. We loved Uganda and would come back but would not recommend your hotel.

Very friendly and committed staff. Very impressive! However, the hotel guests suffer from loud noise all around the clock from 6.30 till 2 at night. And the mixer taps are out of order in many rooms with the effect that hotel guests suffer from high oscillations in water temperatures under the shower. Not all hotel rooms have mini bar. Strange that the hotel is accepted as a Partnerschaft by Marriot.

In general, room rates are high for regular and premium customers. Food delivery is very slow. We have to poke several times to get food. In general staffs are good.

You have to manage your expectations when it comes to hotels in Kampala. If you do that, you’ll be fine here. If you don’t, you might fret about some of the maintenance issues, the loud noise from the nearby nightclubs (partying all night and early morning), the slightly clunky air conditioning, and the next door construction. The complaints aside, I found that the things that are important to me were all done well at the Protea. Excellent customer service. Everyone from the bar manager, to the front desk, restaurant hostess (Winnifred is great!), to the cleaning lady, were all professional, friendly and, most importantly, accommodating. I also appreciated the location. Kololo sports some nice restaurants, the nearby Acacia Shopping Mall is nice, and, unfortunately, there are some very popular night clubs nearby. As far as hotel amenities go, the hotel does not have a pool, but does have a good pizza restaurant/bar, and a separate restaurant, which is quite popular. With the exception of a few hours when it was down due to some electrical issue, the internet was relatively fast and reliable. I also utilized the hotel’s airport pick-up/drop off service and found what the transport lacked in luxury, it made up for in promptness and professionalism (again, it’s the important things, right?). Bottom line - I would stay here again and would recommend to others.

My room overlooked the kitchen area and was noisy in the early morning. Also it necessited closing curtains almost permanently as no privacy from that area. Would ask for another room next time. Rest of room was great and no complaints. Enjoyed the fact there was also adequate water pressure.

average hotel if you are used to the Marriott chain. maybe still in the pandemic zone! large rooms, seen the effort to enhance the hotel as i stayed there before joining Marriott. Room missing: (Fiona, service manager attended to this post on the spot) Note pad, pen (Provided after the notice) shoe kit (Provided after the notice) Menu: TV or food or even the App to check the menu Ironing board (Provided after the notice) small hand towel (Provided after the notice) mouth wash, cotton etc (provided the toothpaste & brush) Slippers ((Provided after the notice) sewing Kit ((Provided after the notice) ethernet connection. Wifi connection is slow, 1.8Mbps average, limited by IT (extended to 3.8Mbps upon request) test done using speedtest.net Breakfast: attended at 9 ish and did not find fresh veggies, bananas, one type of yellow, cheese, no orange jjuice. they promised to take notice & customize as the demand is coming up & asked to request if I have any special request to prepare. (good Service from Fiona) Gym: decent equipment's, no view, just walls Location: great and near most of the good restaurants alternative, Sheraton in the same Marriott chain, has much more to offer, an old hotel, rooms are Ok, but built to be a 5 stars hotel.
