My girlfriend and I came from Germany and had a great time renting a car from Billy in February 2020. Everything went perfect. We took it from Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Only recommendation if you get stopped by the police and get a fine: always ask for a receipt, so that they can not screw you!

We just came back from our second trip with Self-Drive 4x4 Uganda and it has been absolutely amazing! Thanks to Kenny we were able to observe six tree climbing lions, to fall asleep next to hippos and to hike through the most magical forests. I will hire this service again in a heartbeat. We rented a car for over 2 weeks and were very happy with self drive Uganda! We arranged the car + rooftoptent only 4 days before we wanted to have it which was no problem at all! Also we wanted to extend our trip, which was perfectly fine as well! The car was perfect, we did not have any problems during our trip (and we drove on some very challenging roads). Billy was very helpful and flexible with all our request. Definitely recommend! (Please note: there are some other car rental companies with almost the same company name located on Entebbe road as well)

Rented a Landcruiser in Feb 2022 from Billy. Great service. Delivered and collected the Landcruiser to and from the hotel. The car was clean, in good condition and reliable. We drove from Entebbe to Pakwatch, Murchison Falls and Lake Albert. No problems whatsoever. Highly recommended.

we had a great combined trip through Uganda/Rwanda with this agency, we rented a 4x4 Toyota Rav4 from at reasonable price with baker from self drive Uganda after getting a detailed information of this local agency owned by the Ugandan national, our major aim on this trip was to go for plus chimpanzee and gorilla trekking in both Uganda and Rwanda this was our childhood dream. we had no problem with the rented car through out the 15 days of rental, i cant hesitate to recommend any one planing to visit Uganda and Rwanda on self drive to go with this company. they have reliable cars and always responsive to emails 24/7

We have evaluated several selfdrive companies for renting a 4x4 for ~18 days in Tanzania, with pick-up and drop-off in Arusha (surroundings) Tanzania. We really appreciated the prompt replies and flexibility provided by SelfdriveTanzania. We rented the car at SelfdriveTanzania. Might be good to know, this is a 'sister company' of SelfdriveUganda. As a result, you might have an Uganda licensed car, which is fine since it is still part of the East Africa Community. We rented the Toyata Landcruiser LX V8 Diesel with roof-top tent. I hereby list some pros and cons regarding the car rental overall. Pick-up and return: + We had contact via whatsapp with the relevant persons at SelfdriveTanzania. They offered a complementary pickup from the airport and dropoff at our hotel. - The staff could explain a bit more about the car during the pickup, for example how to set it in 4WD, how to use the fridge (which we didn't use). Experience using the car: + The car is very reliable. We didn't had a technical breakdown despite the bad road conditions in Tanzania's NPs + The car is very reliable, we didn't even had a flat tyre. Which is rare I guess + The car is very strong, sometimes the roads went up steeply, but it was no problem for the car + The rooftop tent is spacious enough for 2 people + The car already has some scratches, so no need to feel guilty if you add 1 or 2 scratsches - The camping gear was a bit outdated (but worked ok) - The inside of the car wasn't spotless. Probably also caused by the dusty roads... but stil. Overall we had a good experience with selfdriveTanzania. 4 out of 5 star.

We've rented with Self drive Uganda for 7 days road trip. Starting at Entebbe's airport. Billy, the owner, is a very nice person, we' ve been in contact for the booking months ago and the communication with him was perfect! He was with a spanish group as their driver on Kidepo but he sent to us Josefh, one of his workers. Josefh was a good guy, he arranged the car contract very quick and we can start our trip on Uganda. It was more than 2000 km with our Toyota Rav 4. Supercar! Strong enough for resist Uganda's roads. It was confortable car, eficient and cheap. Really good relation quality- price. Definetely best option for Uganda self drive. Thanks a lot to Billy and Josefh. We'll come back

All the cheap rental cars in Uganda are not new. This means, don't expect that they will drive flawlessly. Our engine mount broke in Hoima. It took literally 7min after we called them to get a mechanic. Even though it was a bigger problem with the car they got it fixed in half a day and we got refunded this half a day. They also bring and get the car at your hotel/hostel in Entebbe. Highly recommended! You can als get more reliable cars from this company if you're not a poor student :)

We did a 12 day trip to Southwestern Uganda and enjoyed it to the fullest. Our driver Isaac knew all places, drove very safe and was very flexible and fun to be with. The car was in a good condition. I highly recommend this company as they have been responsive and very reliable from day one.

The experience of selfdriving through east africa is one that is hard to describe. Nature, Animals and the people are out of this world and we had a great time on our trip. We hired a car with Selfdrive Uganda for seven weeks. Even though the roads get extremly rough we only had some minor issues with the car and those were promtly and sufficently taken care of by Self Drive Uganda. Can fully recommend hiring a car here.

We did a self-drive of 17 days with a Landcruiser from Self Drive Uganda and it was a good experience. Basically every tourist vehicle in Uganda is a Toyota Landcruiser with quite some kilometers on the counter, basic but very robust cars. Most of Ugandan roads are well, but some roads are very demanding for a car (dust, potholes and horrible speedbumps). This combination makes that something can always happen and in this means you need a rental company with a decent support system. This is exactly what Self Drive Uganda provides.
