On
29th
April
2022
I
underwent
a
chest
x-ray
at
iom
in
Naguru
Kampala
Uganda.
After
more
than
2
hours
of
waiting,
I
was
called
back
for
a
second
x-ray
citing
the
first
x-rays
as
being
inconclusive.
After
the
second
x-ray,
I
was
counseled
by
a
doctor
and
was
told
my
chest
x-ray
was
abnormal
and
that
I
would
have
to
return
for
three
(3)
consecutive
mornings
to
provide
sputum
samples
from
which
'clearer
TB
results'
would
be
obtained
within
8
to
10
Weeks!
I
can
only
describe
the
three
days
that
followed
as
a
total
disaster
that
actually
put
my
health
at
risk.
To
begin
with,
the
sputum
collection
booths
were
not
humane.
It's
sad
to
mention,
there
is
only
one
(1)
sink
into
which
all
candidates
spit
into
after
rinsing
their
mouths
with
water.
This
sink
is
not
cleaned
or
sanitised
in
between
the
different
candidate
uses.
Thus
if
the
first
or
second
patient
had
TB,
this
would
put
the
next
candidate
using
the
sink
at
a
greater
risk
of
catching
TB
incase
they
didn't
have
it
as
they'd
have
to
bend
toward
the
sink
to
spit
into
it.
Three
(3)
booths
in
a
row
used
in
turns
by
about
8
candidates
(yet
not
sanitised
in
between)
with
no
privacy
(no
glass,
no
door,
nothing)
are
so
indecent
to
the
point
that
it
seems
as
though
the
candidates
are
chocking
right
next
to
each
other.
On
my
3rd
day
I
heard
someone
ask
in
worry
why
people
were
coughing
endlessly
in
the
back.
If
a
person
has
no
cough,
it's
absurd
to
expect
them
to
"get"
sputum.
After
almost
45
mins
of
coughing
my
lungs
out,
two
(2)
of
my
samples
were
binned
by
a
medic
calling
them
'just
saliva'
I
find
this
method
odd
for
an
organisation
considered
to
be
"international"
A
candidate
arriving
at
8am
only
being
able
to
pay
successfully
an
hour
later
at
9am
(yet
there
is
no
queue
at
the
til)
and
waiting
to
be
x-rayed
for
3
hours
while
people
who
arrive
much
later
are
being
x-rayed
is
truly
unprofessional
and
so
disappointing.
I
would
like
to
pose
a
few
questions
to
who
ever
speaks
on
behalf
of
IOM;
Qn:
Is
there
no
humane
way
of
obtaining
sputum
or
TB
specimen
from
a
candidate?
Qn:
If
a
chest
x-ray
is
not
conclusive,
is
sputum
collection
for
three
consecutive
mornings
from
a
candidate
(irrespective
of
distance
between
IOM
and
candidate's
residence)
the
best
solution?
Qn:
If
a
candidate
without
TB
eventually
catches
TB
from
unsanitised
IOM
sputum
collection
booths
and
sinK,
how
does
IOM
know
it
to
be
so
and
what
responsibility
does
IOM
take
thereafter?
Qn:
If
a
candidate
truly
has
TB,
is
IOM
authorised
to
discriminate
them
by
such
means
as
seen
at
this
facility?
I
strongly
suggest,
An
alternative
and
probably
more
professional
health
organisation
should
be
allowed
to
process
TB
results
parallel
to
IOM
if
there
is
to
be
equal
and
decent
treatment
of
medical
examination
applicants
and
to
protect
the
health
of
candidates
suspected
to
have
TB
As
I
write
this,
Its
7th
June
and
I
still
await
my
results.
