Very well preserved piece of history. Building is in great shape. Lots of cannons from above. The grounds are free to explore without paying a fee, which can be just as fun if you’re not looking to see the Mayan exhibits inside. Lots of great Mayan art and history in exhibitions. Not a lot of history on the actual building or the people who made it, which I was hoping there would be. Beautiful views of the Gulf from the top. You can do this in about an hour.

It's a short stop just outside of town. For a shirt stopover it's perfect. There's about 8 rooms depicting Mayan artifacts and some explanations, although the interesting parts are only in Spanish. We visited during mid day, which was extremely warm. Would recommend a morning or afternoon visit. It doesn't show a lot of information on the fortress itself.

This was absolutely amazing! We stayed in Campeche over the weekend. There is so much to see that we couldn't see it in 2 days. The history of the Fort, the views from inside the fort walls are breath taking!

This is a beautiful place located on the top a hill 10 minutes away from Campeche's downtown that you must visit. This is an old fortress built against pirates buikt in the XVII century. It is super well conserved and maintained. It also has a museum that's has a beautiful exposition of Mayan pieces that also explains the Mayan culture. It is super interesting, and some pieces are simply amazing. The view from the top floor is beautiful and perfect to take some selfies with all those old cannons and the ocean in the background.

I loved going here and hearing the stories about this place when growing up, coming back 23 years later, and still be able to experience it. Thank you to the city for keeping up with this place for the public.

The fort is nice but the Maya Museum inside is just gorgeous 🤩 Beautiful Jade masks.

This is a wonderful little museum with very informative displays relating to the Mayan world, in Spanish and English. The amount of artifacts from Calakmul is amazing, especially the jade death masks. Lots of incredible figures from the island of Jaina, which I found especially intriguing. Well worth the 70 peso admission fee and accessible by taxi or public bus.

Fort San Miguel is in the west part of San Fransisco de Campeche. You can walk there from el centro (which I did), but it is a long walk, or take a taxi, tour or a colectivo. The Fort has a museum part with historical information about the city, region and Mayans, and then thereis the fort itself with the really nice view. Worth a visit for interested and if you have the time.

I didn’t go inside the fortress because I was reluctant to pay the 65 pesos entrance fee, but it is worth visiting even from the outside. There is a nice little park around it with a beautiful view over the see.

The area around the fort is a nice place to have a picnic or walk. You could easily spend 2 or 3 hours visiting the fort, the museum (inside the fort), and hanging out in the area outside of the fort. I went about 45 mins before closing and had the entire fort to myself.

A historic fort in Campeche that holds some Mayan artifacts. The history of the forts and the pirates is something I didn't know before visiting here.

Fantastic museum with several jade funeral masks and other artifacts excavated in Campeche. Most of the signs are in English so definitely still worth it if you don't speak Spanish. Hours on google maps are wrong, it's open tuesday-sunday 8am to 5pm. Tickets are 60 pesos.

This is the first time I've gone to a Mayan museum. The artifacts were intriguing and oneof a kind. The fort itself was very impressive. With a multitude of cannons. Very well kept.

What a fantastic place to inmerse in the Maya culture, quick but very complete. It's a very thorough glimpse of the rise and demise of the Maya civilization explained with artifacts and very easy to comprehend texts. Excellent for families as its quick for the little ones. The cultural ministry did a great job here!
